Chapter 936: A problem arise
"Which one does hold the power in this operation, Bernard?"
Another moment of silence hung in the air as the wind took away the echoes of Ram’s voice. Bear kept his eyes on the track behind the Jeep, while Ram kept his gaze fixed on Bear’s figure.
Not long ago, Ram received a call from one of his men who attacked Primo.
From the call, he found out that the party Ram sent to take down Primo was wiped out. Only one person survived and it was because reaching him only needed one person. Although his soldier didn’t tell all the details because his life was on the line, Ram figured his former colleagues played a key role in the mission’s failure.
Ram only knew a few things. One of them was Wolf, the person he talked to, and the person who kept his soldier hostage. And second, his former colleagues were working with someone aside from Primo.
"Considering Dominic Zhu’s personality, it won’t be surprising if he was getting himself involved in things like this. After all, Dimitri was his assistant for many years. I’m sure he wanted to settle scores with him," Ram contemplated, taking another long drag of the cigar and looking up. "But his wife... for some reason, she won’t leave my head."
"I heard a lot of things about that woman. She’s full of mystery," he continued. "And some parts of her remind me of Hera. So, I won’t be surprised if that is the reason you were drawn to her, because she reminds you of Hera. However, if that is the reason you neglected Hera, then it would be hard for me to forgive you."
Ram cocked his head back, eyes falling back to Bear. "So? Who is the one giving you the order? Was it Dominic Zhu or his wife, Heaven Liu?"
"Does it matter?"
"It does." Ram blinked ever so slowly. "My trust depends on your answer."
Another wave of silence hung in the air as both men held each other’s gaze.
"Before I answer the question, tell me one thing," Bear remarked solemnly. "What were you planning once you take down Dragon and Dimitri? I mean, what were you planning to do with Hera?"
"I’m going to keep her safe." Ram’s answer was quick, without a second hesitation. "Dragon erased her memories, which I’m unsure if that was a good thing or bad. However, a part of me thinks it’s better if she doesn’t recall anything. If so, then she can probably live more happily."
"Is that what you believe?" Bear let out a short laugh, but wasn’t able to criticize Ram’s answer. After all, that was all they wanted for Hera. They all wished for her to find happiness and attain the peace she had always sought without the worries of being the leader of a massive organization.
If this was in the past, Bear would surely agree with Ram. Heck. He would probably make the same decision Ram did.
But alas...
"Ram, how deep do you think we know our boss?" Bear asked seriously. "We all know she is headstrong, someone we could rely on in everything. We also know she always wished to live just like everyone else, to have friends, to cry over the pettiest things, and to have fun doing the most menial things."
"We knew she never wanted to be in the position she had to take, and that she had an entirely different dream than her reality," he added. "This is why her death left a deep cut in our hearts, because even in the end, she made us all feel helpless. We carried her death like a massive boulder, crippling us with every waking day and night. We all thought that maybe if she relied on us more or if we just let her go, she would’ve spent her short life a lot happier."
"But." Bear paused, turning on his heel, and facing Ram squarely. "Do you think she died — if she truly died that time — with regrets? Do you think during the last moments of her life, she wished to have done things differently? Or that she hated her life?"
Ram went silent at Bear’s inquiry, staring at the latter. His lips parted, but then shut his mouth as his words wouldn’t come out of his throat.
"Hera is not someone who would want to forget who she was and what she had done. Not because she took pride in it, but because knowing all of her sins would remind her of the value of life or chance given to her," Bear added, recalling the life Hera led in Heaven Liu’s body. "It was not her memories or her choices that made her unhappy. It was us and our greed and ungratefulness that led to disappointment. Erasing her memories and factory resetting her is simply a temporary fix and would only give her temporary and deceitful peace."
Bear drew a deep breath, hoping this roundabout way of explaining his understanding of their boss’s heart would be understood. After all, Bear was guilty just like Ram and had to admit just how little he knew about that little girl they claimed to treasure.
"One more thing," Bear spoke again after a full minute of silence. "Hera didn’t lose her memories. Dragon’s act of erasing her memories failed, miserably."
"What?"
Bear slid his eyes to the corner, catching Ram’s furrowed brows. "I guess you don’t know her for real."
"That’s impossible."
"With a lot of experience in acting and receiving an award for this talent, it’s not."
"Bernard."
"My point is, Hera knew who you were from the start." Bear crossed his arms, looking away from the man. "If you don’t believe me, then ask Fig. You trust the kid more than me, I presume. He’s the one to confirm that for us."
The lines between Ram’s brows deepened, gazing down as he processed this revelation Bear threw in his direction. But before he could delve deeper into the matter, a man on standby around the vehicle approached Ram. At the same time, Bear arched a brow as he pressed the earpiece into his ear.
"What do you mean by that, Moose?" asked Bear, casting Ram a look, only to see that it seemed they already got the report.
Ram slowly shifted his eyes to Bear before he ordered his men,
"Tell everyone we’re leaving at once."

Meanwhile, Moose sat on his motorbike. His foot is on the ground while the other is on the clutch, parked horizontally in the middle of the road.
"Well, yeah." Moose clicked his tongue as he hummed a long tune, gazing at the car that had smoke ascending from their hoods while others crashed in some establishment. His eyes went from corner to corner, seeing some bystanders in the heart of the city looking in his direction with equal curiosity, shock, and fear.
"Dimitri’s men chased me even in the middle of the city," he said and huffed sharply. "Everyone’s dead, though, or maybe a few were injured."
His brows rose as he heard multiple sirens echoing in the distance. "I’d be busy trying not to be caught by the police, but yeah. It seemed Dimitri saw through our plan and stopped chasing after me. If he didn’t go to that base, I’m afraid he went back home. Dom and Tiger are still there."
