Chapter 930: All or nothing

"So, what do you say?"

Ivy observed Katherine attentively. The latter’s shoulder lowered, relaxing as she pondered about Ivy’s offer. Katherine leaned back, keeping her eyes fixed on Ivy.

"Hah!" A short chuckle escaped Katherine. "Miss Ivy Wei, you surely are gutsy. Did you seriously think I’d bite that offer? That’s tempting to you? Oh, I must have overestimated you."

The corner of her lips curled up into a smirk, eyes glinting malevolently. "Let me tell you something, Miss Ivy Wei. I can get you out of the picture without angering Dimitri. One of them is the one I mentioned a while ago. If you go out, there were at least three dead bodies from the earlier attack."

"Dying during times like this is normal," she continued. "So, if you are found dead and mutilated, it would surprise no one. All I have to do is injure myself a little, and they would have believed the intruders attacked me and killed you."

Katherine paused, leaning her face forward. "Why would I let you go when I can just kill you so you won’t bother him permanently? Do you think if you escape, he won’t bring you back again?"

This time, the cocky smirk on Ivy’s expression slowly vanished. Meanwhile, Katherine’s eyes were glinting.

"Your life right now is in the palm of my hands," Katherine remarked with certainty. "Do you think just because I am indulging with you in a conversation, I won’t know you’re waiting for a chance to snatch a weapon from this table?"

Ivy froze as her shoulder tensed up while Katherine laughed.

"You are naive, Miss Ivy Wei." Katherine shook her head. "Did you really think if you held a gun, you’d be able to kill me? Or scare me? Haha! How hilarious! I’ve been through hell and back a hundred times. Yet, I’m still alive. Equipping yourself with a weapon won’t even make me sway."

Ivy held her breath, eyes locked with Katherine. She gulped, hearing it echo in her ear. So, all this time, Katherine was simply playing along? Why was that surprising? From what she had witnessed so far, Dane wouldn’t keep Katherine around if she were useless.

"Well." Ivy calmed herself and smiled. "We don’t know about that."

The second the last syllable rolled out of Ivy’s tongue, she unhesitatingly sprawled her arm to the nearest rifle on the coffee table. But just as fingertips brushed the rifle, Ivy froze as a knife landed a millimeter from her hand.

"I missed on purpose," Katherine smirked, playing with another knife in her hands. "I can’t really say this one would."

Right after saying her piece, Katherine threw the knife in Ivy’s hand. Fortunately, Ivy retrieved her hand in time and held it close to her. Keeping her gaze on the table, she gulped nervously.

"You got fast reflex," Katherine mused, leaning over with her hand on the coffee table. She propped her knee on the surface of the table, picking out the knife that almost stabbed Ivy’s hand. "Or was it because I warned you beforehand?"

She looked up, locking eyes with Ivy. "Miss Ivy Wei, should I try this time without giving you a warning?"

Ivy held her breath, staring at the malicious pair of eyes mirroring her. A lump in her throat returned as her heart raced uncontrollably. She could even hear her heartbeat, making her pant heavily.

"This is the problem with women who think they could use my feelings for Dimitri," said Katherine, licking the body of the knife, unafraid it would cut her accidentally. "I am not like other women who get jealous just because he showed an interest in others. Because at the end of the day, I can always take out every single one of them before they could even think of a competition —"

Before Katherine could finish her sick sentiments, Ivy kicked the edge of the table with all her might. It moved a little despite the weight on it. Catching Katherine off guard, Ivy immediately grabbed the nearest rifle and jumped away from the couch.

"Ah!" Katherine lost her balance as the table moved, almost hitting her shin with her position. When she looked up, Ivy already jumped away from the couch and lifted the rifle in her direction. "Can you really shoot —"

BANG!

"Yes, I can!"

Katherine almost bit her tongue as she instinctively rolled on the table, dodging the bullets Ivy unhesitatingly fired at her. When she reached the end of the table, she landed on her knee and looked up.

"You!" Katherine growled through her gritted teeth, surprised that Ivy opened fire at a human being.

Ivy positioned the rifle, ready to take down Katherine before she could even make a move. But alas, when she pulled the trigger, she was met with a problem.

"Hehe." Katherine chuckled when only an empty clack resounded in their ears. "Out of bullets now?"

Ivy clenched her teeth as she quickly cast the table a look. Aside from the rifles, there was some ammunition on it. Right.Dane was cleaning them previously, and while he was doing so, he was disassembling and emptying each of them. Ivy was already lucky she got a rifle that still had a bullet in it.

"You’re dead now," Katherine’s warning brought Ivy back to the current lapse.

Looking at the blonde beauty, Ivy ground her teeth and tossed her rifle away. Without wasting a second, she turned on her heel and fled as fast as she could. She went straight to the front door, her heart thudding faster than her feet.

’If she gets me, she’ll kill me!’ she screamed at herself while her subconscious mind was scolding her for putting herself in harm.

In the back of her head, she couldn’t help but wonder if locking herself in the room was safer. Shaking her head, Ivy stretched her hand out to the door handle. But the moment she reached it, a knife suddenly appeared at the door.

Her eyes went wide, frozen momentarily, gazing at the knife embedded in the door.

"Ivy Wei!" After a second, she heard Katherine’s roar.

Ivy looked back and somehow felt scared at the pair of eyes glowing in her direction. The usual elegance Katherine exuded looked uglier with that psychotic grin plastered on her face.

"You’re not getting away from here!" Katherine barked, picking out a rifle from the table.

’It’s all or nothing now!’ Ivy clenched her teeth and thanks to her adrenaline, she found her energy to open the door and slam it closed before it was riddled with bullets.
