Chapter 927: I’m out of here.
No one aside from Ivy saw the person outside the gates. So when the explosion occurred, it took everyone outside the mansion off guard. Everyone ducked on instinct, hiding from the cars that were ready to get them from point A to point B.
Dane and Alfred hid themselves behind the open doors of the SUV. They instinctively held their rifle securely, a violent reflex that made them survive the fierce world of the underground. Realizing they were unscathed, Dane slowly peeked over the window to see what was happening.
His eyes dilated in surprise, seeing that the large gates in the distance were replaced with smoke and fire. The distance between the manor and the main gates was wide, and thus, the debris from the gates didn’t reach them.
"Alfred, it seemed we got the reports late," Dane remarked, and at the same time, they caught a black motorcycle speeding through the thick smoke.
Just like the motorcycle, the rider was also in black, from helmet to shoes. There was a rifle strap across his body, and they knew the rifle was hiding on his back.
"An intruder!" Alfred yelled, reacting quickly at the sight of the motorcycle. However, it took a few seconds for the men with them to react.
The motorcycle rider suddenly drifted several meters from them, and without wasting a breath, he slid his rifle strapped around and opened fire. Dane and Alfred hid behind the door, jumping inside the SUV as if it were bulletproof. Those who had a slower reaction time were shot in the leg or died. It took a few of their comrade’s death for the rest to regain their survival instinct.
"Tch!" Dane clenched his teeth, snapping his tongue as he gazed at the lone person coming fearlessly in their den. He glanced at the burning gates and was certain the rider was alone.
"This guy..." Dane breathed out through his gritted teeth, watching how the rider emptied his rifle at them.
The rider unhesitatingly pulled the trigger consecutively until no more bullets would come out of his weapon. He pulled the trigger one more time before looking at his weapon.
"Well," whispered the rider to himself, tossing the rifle to the side and shrugging. "I’m out of here."
With that in mind, the rider clutched his motorcycle and began to speed away. It was as though he didn’t plan on infiltrating this place all alone.
"Don’t let him get away!" Seeing that the rider was trying to run away after pulling off that skit, Alfred peeked his head out of the driver’s seat, yelling. "Get him!"
The men hiding behind the cars peeked over the car. As soon as they caught the motorcycle screeching and trying to get away, they immediately jumped from their spot and rushed to each of the cars. Alfred, on the other hand, slammed the door closed and stepped on the pedal to catch that rotten man.
"I’m going to tear him apart when I get my hands on him," Alfred growled, grinding his teeth in irritation. "Did he think he could just come in here and then leave unscathed?"
Meanwhile, Dane stared blankly at the windshield as they were approaching the gate’s burning remnants. In his mind, he kept remembering the rider who suddenly came into the mansion and fearlessly opened fire.
"Mr. M," he whispered, snapping his eyes as they appeared sharper. "That’s him. There’s no mistaking it."
"Mr. M?" Without looking away from the road, Alfred furrowed his brows.
"A director of the Lyon Group." Dane’s expression darkened. "But before that, he was also known as Moose. A core member of the disbanded Reapers."
Reapers.
The second Alfred heard that his eyes glowed maliciously. For someone in the underground, the mere sound of that word was enough to bring terror into people’s hearts. That was how feared the Reapers were. But for them? The Reapers were nothing but an obstruction that monopolized the limelight in the underground.
"That’s him." A glint flickered across Dane’s eyes, remembering that time Primo abducted Sebastian. Moose was there. Just like that time, he was also riding a motorcycle and fearlessly drove his way straight to his enemy and even left without a single scratch on him.
"He’s a sneaky bastard," he warned. "Be careful, Alfred. He’s probably working with Ram."
Deep lines appeared between Alfred’s thick and unruly brows. "He’s working for Dragon?"
"No." Dane shook his head, taking a deep breath. "If my assumption is correct, it is possible Ram never planned to honor his alliance with Dragon. He probably waited for the right time to do his plan."
"His plan?" Alfred gripped the steering wheel tighter, bouncing as they passed through the burning gates. Despite the thick smoke that blinded them from the road beyond it, Alfred knew what to expect beyond the gates. Turning the steering to his right as hard as he could, the tires screeched in their ears as they drifted to not hit another small house right outside of the gates.
Alfred clenched his teeth, the side of the car barely scratching the walls of the house before they sped through the straight road. He immediately caught the motorcycle from the distance, stomping on the pedal to lessen their distance.
"Damn it!" Alfred yelled, almost heaving a sigh of relief at the straight road ahead. But alas, he couldn’t when he glanced at the rear and saw one of their escort crashing into the small house, which was also their group’s headquarters.
With the situation at hand, Alfred had forgotten the conversation he was having with his boss. Right now, the most important thing was to catch that rat. Not to mention, they had to go and check what Ram was doing on one of their bases.
"Go and stop that old man from taking down our bases!" Alfred yelled as he pressed his earpiece. "Keep me posted on the situation!"
Dane glanced at Alfred, who was always impatient every time things like this happened. Thus, he drew a deep breath and calmed himself down.
"No," he said calmly yet coldly. "We’re going to Ram first. This might be a diversion. Let’s not get distracted."
