Chapter 922: If that’s what my lady wants, then shoot me.
Staying in the room all the way, waiting for help to come, was not Ivy’s style. Growing up, all people saw was her "perfect life" of being born into the Wei Family. Be it as a child or as an adult, they thought her life was simply perfect without any struggle. She remembered back in high school when she would rant to her so-called "friends" about how tough her life was, only to find out these so-called friends find her inner turmoil more like a brag and irritating. They found her ungrateful for still complaining. It was the reason she learned how to choose her words carefully around people and to slowly distance herself from others.
Perhaps that was why the Zhu boys were the only real friends she had till adulthood. It was because Dominic wouldn’t judge her if she said something about her struggle. At least, he wouldn’t laugh or react anything to her real feelings. Axel would join her in complaining about the hardships in life. Silas, on the other hand, would comfort her in his own way. Though in Silas’ case, she could somehow see herself in him. Which explained why she did her best, going over and beyond to help him.
In other words, this situation wouldn’t change her with a snap of a finger.
Going out of the room, Ivy didn’t have a hard time finding her way to the mezzanine than the first time. Standing by the railing, she looked over to the ground floor, catching some people going in and out of the entrance.
’There’s more people here now,’ she thought, but not surprised. ’If people call him boss, of course, he got more people under his wing.’
Ivy took a deep breath as she clasped the railing tighter. When she swallowed the lump in her throat, she recollected her thoughts and slowly made her way to the stairs. The second she was a step away from the stair landing, she heard familiar voices. Turning her head, she caught this big muscled blessed man bumping his giant fists against each other.
"This is annoying! So annoying! Boss, this is unfair!" the muscled man complained, standing in front of Dane, who was busy wiping a rifle on the couch. "Why did you only send Romnick and that old man to that place?! I wanted to put an end to that little lizard myself!"
The man with this incredibly huge physique named Alfred went on and on, clasping his short hair in distress. Meanwhile, Dane continued to ignore him as if he couldn’t see that giant human rock right in front of him.
"Boss!" Alfred called in distress before his brows rose, turning his head to the person standing on the steps of the stairs. His eyes lit up the moment he locked eyes with Ivy. "Oh! Boss, your trophy is awake!"
His lips stretched from ear to ear. "Miss Trophy, did you come down for breakfast? I’m afraid you have to wait for a moment because the chef is still making your breakfast. Katherine took over the kitchen a while ago, and knowing her, she might poison you. So, the boss asked someone else to make you breakfast!"
’Talking about breakfast in this situation, huh?’Ivy mentally scoffs. ’Surely, this isn’t surprising. This is probably not that new to them.’
Ivy ignored Alfred, shifting her eyes in Dane’s direction. As soon as her eyes landed on the man, Dane slid his eyes into her vantage point and then smiled subtly.
’That look.’ Her jaw tightened, finding that subtle smile on Dane was his subtle way to mock her. ’Did he think I would fall for that kind of look again?’
"It seemed you were able to make peace with the situation, Ivy," Dane remarked approvingly, scanning her from head to foot. "You already showered and had the energy to put on some light makeup. As expected of you, Ivy. You don’t disappoint."
Ivy’s face turned sour. "Would you prefer it if I sulk in the room and stink?"
"Oh, no. I expect you to come around faster than anyone would expect." Dane smiled widely. "Good thing I preferred your closet. If you were looking for a perfume, it was out of stock. Though I have the same one in my room. Want me to get it for you?"
Her stomach churned at the idea of Dane possessing the same brand of perfume she usually used. Not that she was the only one who used that particular scent, but hearing it from him, she didn’t want to imagine why he kept one in his room.
"It’s really funny that you have such menial ideas at the moment," Ivy scoffed, glaring daggers at Dane. "Dimitri, I thought it would take a long time for me to get used to calling you by another name, but I guess I was wrong. It only took a second to realize that the Dane Zhang I know never actually existed."
"That’s good! The faster you adapt, the better." Dane nodded approvingly, tapping the space beside him. "Come here, Miss Wei. Indulge with me for a moment."
Alfred crossed his arms and frowned, squinting his eyes at Dane. "Boss, I don’t like how she talks to you. Spoiling her will only make her more rebellious. She’ll become problematic."
"Don’t worry, Alfred." Dane snapped his eyes at the man. "The last time I know, I am the one who calls the shot here. Sit down and calm yourself." He then cast Ivy another look. "Will you join me?"
Ivy bit her inner lips, maintaining a fierce front. She glanced at Alfred for a second and, without saying a word, she marched toward the lobby to join Dane. Her eyes remained on him as she stopped a step in front of the couch, glancing at the rest of the couches around before proceeding to sit beside him.
"I thought you would sit somewhere else?" Dane remarked in surprise, only to see her look at him sharply.
"All struggles right now are futile," she replied coldly. "Humiliating myself once is enough."
The side of Dane’s mouth stretched in satisfaction. "Smart girl." He chuckled, pointing at the rifles on the coffee table. "When I said I like guns, it was true. I admire that even though it’s almost impossible for you, you still did your best to educate yourself about it."
Dane picked up a pistol among the rifles, tossing it in Ivy, which she caught on instinct. "Help me clean them."
Ivy furrowed her brows and gazed down at the pistol. "Are you seriously handing me a pistol right now?" she asked, lifting her eyes to him. "It’s loaded. I can tell by the weight."
"Mhm." Dane hummed as he placed the rifle he was initially wiping on the clean section of the table. As he did so, he suddenly felt a cold metal click near his ear. His brows rose, sliding his eyes in her direction.
"Dimitri, do you think I’m the type to comply, especially to the likes of you?" Ivy held the gun at him, her expression cold. "If there’s someone I want dead right now, that would be you, Dimitri."
"Oy..." Alfred called, darting his eyes between the both of them. "Boss, that pistol is loaded. She’s not lying."
"I know." Dane smiled, keeping his eyes on Ivy. "If that’s what my lady wants, then shoot me." He held the tip of the pistol as he lowered his head, positioning it on his forehead. "Follow your heart’s desire. Kill me, Ivy Wei."
