Chapter 921: Ignorance is bliss while it lasts.

[Thirty minutes ago in Sorrento]

Ivy woke up in the same bedroom she was kept in, rubbing her eyes as she sat up on the bed. Looking around, her lips curved down in displeasure. Last night, she prayed that everything was just a dream. She cried and prayed until she eventually fell asleep. However, now it was proven that what had happened wasn’t a dream.

This was reality, her reality.

"Hah... I am a mess." Ivy ran her fingers through her hair, peeking down at herself. "Dane... or rather, Dimitri. I can’t believe this is happening."

It took her a while to truly accept this reality that slapped her across the face. However, she couldn’t keep denying it. She believed in Tiger. Therefore, she knew he would come and rescue her, no matter what. All she had to do was stay alive until then.

’Deep in my heart, I didn’t want to believe Tiger’s claim about his terrible past.’ Ivy flung her legs out of the bed, walking away to explore her room. ’When he told me about it, a part of me felt terrified. I’m only human, after all. It swayed me a bit. It makes me want to believe he was just joking to push me away. And when I sort of made terms with his past, I told myself it wasn’t probably as bad as he claimed it to be.’

Who would have thought the truth was much more sinister than what he claimed?

Ivy roamed around the vast bedroom, opening the doors that were connected to it. She already knew the entrance and exit of the room. Hence, she didn’t check it. Upon opening the door in the right corner of the room, the bathroom and shower came into view. Just as expected, it was quite elegant. Ivy then moved on to the door next to the bathroom, and there was a walk-in closet.

Ivy stepped in, furrowing her brows as she looked around the closet filled with luxury clothes, bags, shoes, and pieces of jewelry. She trudged toward the first rack and took out a piece of dress. It only took her a glance to know the dress fit her perfectly.

"A coincidence, I guess?" she shrugged, not wanting to entertain sickening thoughts. Knowing Dane was actually Dimitri was already enough.

Putting back the dress because it didn’t fit the occasion, Ivy ran her fingertips down the dress’s aisle. She stopped after a second, catching a beautiful white champagne dress that was in the mix of clothes. Even though she knew she wouldn’t wear it, Ivy pulled it out of the rack out of habit. Much to her dismay, it also fit her size, perfectly.

"This dress..." she trailed off after assessing it from up and down. "... looks just like mine."

Ivy remembered wearing such a design at one of the parties she attended years ago. Her heart, for some reason, thudded as her pupils dilated. Casting her gaze to the other dress, Ivy tossed the champagne dress and aggressively took out another one. She would pull out a dress, look at it once, and then toss it away to check the other clothes.

"No," she whispered as she rummaged through the closet. "No."

After about a good five minutes straight, Ivy stood motionless in front of the closet. She stared blankly at the red dress before her, hand trembling. Everything fit her size, and somehow, some of the dresses were the same design she wore in the past. Now that she thought about it, Dominic also attended the same parties where she wore some of these outfits. In other words, Dane was also at those gatherings.

"Hah..." Ivy let out a short and airy laugh, gazing down with wide eyes. "So, this is what he meant when he said I’m already home?"

The knot on her stomach tightened, almost at the brink of throwing up at the sickening message behind this closet. Her entire body shook in dismay, laughing in dismay as she looked around the closet filled with beautiful and sophisticated items.

"Did he think throwing all these luxury things to me would hide the fact of how sickening this situation was?" Ivy ground her teeth, her disappointment in Dane slowly morphing into anger. "He’s sick."

She shut her eyes, hands balled into tight fists until they were trembling. After a minute, her trembling stopped as she reopened her eyes.

"Calm down, Ivy, and don’t do something stupid," she told herself, reminding her place in this situation. "You’re a captive, a hostage. Don’t be surprised by everything you find out, because the truth behind Dane is already the worst in all of this."

Ivy bit her lips as hard as she could, squashing down the anger and unpleasant feeling bubbling in her heart. She gazed down at the dresses lying around the floor and picked them up one by one to place them back in place. As she put the last piece in the rack, she paused and gulped hard. The image of Dane Zhang’s gentle eyes, his caring smile, and his kind gestures shattered completely.

"Dane Zhang," she whispered as she closed her eyes momentarily while taking a deep breath. When she reopened her eyes, they appeared sharper. "You will regret deceiving me and my friends. You will never get away from this."

Ivy hissed as she looked away from the rack of dresses, searching the other wardrobe to find much more comfortable clothes. This time, even if she found some items that were the same as some of her things back home, she didn’t let it distract her. With that thought in mind, Ivy simply took pants and a shirt, a pair of sneakers, and nothing else to the bathroom.

Strange as it may sound, Ivy believed she couldn’t just sulk in this room all day long. Thus, despite the great reluctance, she forcibly embraced her situation and followed her usual morning routine. It was sickening to call it a good thing, but they didn’t chain her up like most captors do to their hostages.

In other words, aside from leaving this place, she had the freedom to lurk. Knowing Dane, he might not like someone who stinks to lurk around him. Quiet the menial detail, yet such small detail in this situation was bizarre and eerie. Even so, the soonest she finished washing up and putting on some light makeup, Ivy stared at herself in the vanity mirror.

"He told me not to do anything stupid," she whispered, eyes glinting sharply. "But I can’t just sit here and not know anything. Ignorance is bliss while it lasts."

Ivy nodded encouragingly before pushing herself away. Marching outside the walk-in closet, she was dead set on finding out what Dane was up to, knowing having a grasp of her captor’s twisted mind would come in handy in the future.
