Chapter 914: This is insanity
"What the hell is going on? Don’t tell me this is what that guy’s doing? What a sick bastard."
Beside Primo’s forces, there was Dragon and that other one he assumed was Dimitri’s henchman. These dead people in the hallway were Dragon’s men, for sure. Therefore, Primo assumed this was Dimitri’s people doing. Primo continued his journey to get to the other end of the hallway, but when he turned, the scene was the same as the previous one.
"This... is insanity."
As a felon and villainous himself, Primo knew that killing someone with a gun was the most efficient way. But for someone to use their hands and wield a knife or anything the like, only displayed the level of craziness and confidence the perpetrator was. Considering the circumstances, wielding a close-combat weapon was a lot riskier. Thus, the mere thought of it made the hairs on the back of his neck raise.
Whoever did this was a skilled monster. The worst of all.
"This is obviously their doing," he told himself, eyes glinting as he gripped the rifle close to him. "I don’t think there’s more evil in this place other than those guys."
Bitterness swelled in his chest, remembering all the memories he had with Dimitri and his men. Although he never saw Dimitri face to face in the past, his personality was enough to know what sort of people he had under this wing. With that thought in mind, Primo picked up his steps without putting too much thought into the gruesome scenes before him. Because of this, Primo didn’t meet any enemy on the way. Even if he did, it was just one or two.
As Primo went deeper into the mansion, trying to find Hera, he noticed some changes in the gruesome scene he would walk by. In the beginning, every single body on the way was dead — swiftly killed. But the more he saw the same scene, the more he realized that most of the victims were left incapacitated to fight, but alive.
"What the hell is going on?" he murmured, stopping in his tracks as he squatted down beside the person on the side. He assessed the man’s pale face; he was still breathing heavily.
’Did he get bored?’ he wondered as he glanced around, seeing that most of them were still breathing, even if others were unconsciously bleeding. ’From what I know, this is quite unlike them.’
Dimitri was a sick man who was cruel enough to target an innocent man just because they pissed him off. Thus, Primo had no high hopes for Dimitri’s people. If anything, following Dimitri just gave away what kind of people they were. The reason he found this strange. Leaving too many people alive despite being capable of killing them swiftly didn’t make sense to him.
’Doesn’t matter.’Primo shook his head as he realized he had been focusing on the wrong matter at the moment.
"Hey," he called, lifting his rifle and pressing it on the man’s shoulder to push him back. "Where are they?"
The man blinked wearily as if he couldn’t see the person in front of him properly. He blinked once more, trying to see better through his blurry vision. But alas, he could barely see the man’s figure.
"Danger..." the man whispered. "... she’s in danger."
Deep lines appeared between Primo’s brows as he listened to the man’s mumblings. He leaned closer to hear the man clearer, only to draw his head back slightly with confusion written all over his face.
’Was he thinking I’m one of their comrades?’he wondered to himself and then leaned closer again.
"The boss... in danger..." the man continued under his breath, using every ounce of his energy to hold Primo’s shoulder. "Take her... away... Dragon, he... he won’t... able to protect her anymore."
The lines between Primo’s brows deepened as he pulled his head away from the man. From what he could make up for the man’s words, it seemed the boss he was talking about wasn’t Dragon. But rather, someone else. Despite the vague and short pleading, Primo was certain who the person this dying man was trying to save was.
Hera Cruel.
This was another puzzling piece to add to the countless unanswered questions in his mind.
"Where did they go?" Primo asked solemnly, tugging the man to keep him awake.
"There." The man grunted as he lifted a finger in the direction where Primo came from. "The secret passage."
"Secret passage?"
The man took another deep breath, eyes now shut as he was slowly falling unconscious. "They will exit at the west garden," he clasped Primo’s clothes tighter once last time as he added under his breath, "Please. Take her away from them. Ram won’t make it in time."
As soon as the man uttered those words, his grip on Primo loosened and his hand dropped lifelessly. Primo instinctively checked his pulse, heaving a sigh of relief when he felt it beating.
’He just fell unconscious,’he thought, glancing at the slash across the man’s body. It wasn’t deep enough to kill the man, but it was enough to incapacitate him and keep him alive.
"I don’t know what’s up with you people, but that’s what I planned to do anyway," he remarked as he rose to his feet, marching to the window to see how far he was from the garden. "Shit."
Primo clenched his teeth as he realized just how sneaky Dragon was. All this time, he thought Dragon’s exit plan was on the rooftop of the mansion. Flying was a better escape plan. But alas, it seemed, from this floor, there was a secret passage back to the ground floor. So, all this time, all those who thought Dragon was heading to the rooftop were nothing but an illusion. It was a smart way to divert everyone’s attention and to buy himself some time.
"Fuck!" Primo cursed as he sprinted back to where he came from. "How could I not consider a secret passage when I do that all the freaking time?!"
Primo picked up his pace, hoping he could make it in time to reach Hera. But alas, just when he was thinking of not meeting a problem, he felt some presence ahead, and out of instinct, he ducked and rolled to the floor to dodge the incoming bullet.
"Damn!" he yelled once more, raising his head with his one knee on the bloody floor. When he lifted his head, he caught an old man standing by the end of the way.
"You’ve improved a lot since many years ago," said the old man in a clean white suit while reloading his weapon. When he paused, he gazed at Primo and smiled. "It’s been a while, Attorney Cafre. I’m sure you don’t know me since you only met one of my comrades in that mental institution."
His squinting wrinkly eyes slowly cracked. "I’m glad to see you doing better after my nephew massacred your family."
