Chapter 913: oddly quiet

The once-quiet and "peaceful" mansion was now filled with countless explosive noises. Mostly, gunfire and then screams and yells, grunts, and bodies falling to the ground. Windows being shattered by lost bullets and blood slowly painting everything red.

It was a disaster. Yet, no one had the time to worry about anything else. Intruders had infiltrated Dragon’s base — their base. Therefore, many of them had to take the intruders down while others made sure their boss would escape safely.

"Ugh!" Primo grunted through his clenched teeth, holding his breath at the pain that struck his abdomen. However, he disregarded the kick as he flung his arms with the rifle, hitting the person in the temple. When the man went off balance, he unhesitatingly opened fire.

"Hah..." he breathed out, gazing at the man on the floor momentarily.

When they entered the other entrance of the mansion, there were already several men guarding it. They didn’t even have the time to take a breather as they engaged in a fight. Primo survived, but one of the men he came with wasn’t as lucky.

"Hey!" Primo rushed to the side where one of Wolf’s men collapsed. He slid to his knees as he knelt beside the man, pressing the man’s stomach on instinct to stop his bleeding.

The man was still conscious, sweat trickling down his forehead. His complexion was pale, barely holding on to life. Primo only entered with two people. Foolish, yes. But they were expecting more comrades inside, though he couldn’t see anyone from their side. It seemed they underestimated the situation inside, or rather, Dragon’s forces, who would be in this place.

"Leave me," the man forced out a breath, clasping the hand on his wound. "Reinforcement will come soon. I can hold on until then."

Primo ground his teeth as his eyes shook while staring at the man. Normally, he wouldn’t care if his comrades would die right in front of him. In the past, he would even use them as human shields. But now that he was sober from his insanity episode, there was this indescribable feeling of reluctance to leave this man.

What if reinforcement wouldn’t come? What if something happened on their way? There were countless reasons for their reinforcement to get delayed. They both knew that. Therefore, he was hesitant to leave without doing anything.

"Hold this," Primo took out a cloth, slipping it between the man’s clasped hand to press it against his wound. "Come on, man."

Without waiting for the man’s response, Primo walked over the man’s head, lifting him from behind his shoulder. He then dragged the man to the corner. It wasn’t a safe place, but at least, he wouldn’t be on the way for the enemies to take notice. They could only hope this place could hide him until help arrived.

"You got to have an adrenaline shot, right?" Primo squatted down in front of the man, searching his pockets for any first aid. When he felt something in the man’s pants, he immediately shoved his hand and caught a syringe in it.

He didn’t waste a second, taking out the cap and then stabbing the man in his thigh. As his thumb pressed on the syringe, he gazed at the man while nodding in satisfaction.

"One of them got injured," Primo spoke as he pressed a finger on his earpiece. "If anyone is listening, he’s in the corner of the lobby..."

What Primo received from the other end of the line was pure silence. However, he was certain someone must be listening. Thus, right after giving out their status, Primo gazed at the man one last time before rising to his feet.

He scanned the surroundings once. Bodies loitered the lobby of the mansion with blood everywhere. The place looked like it was turned upside down. Considering the occurrence minutes ago, how this place appeared was no surprise. But if there was something strange, that was how quiet the area had become.

Just now, the noises in this place were deafening. But now, it was... quiet. No visible movements nor there were signs someone would come into this area at any moment.

What was going on?

"Did everyone escape already?" he wondered, his face turning sour at the thought. "No. That’s impossible."

Primo shook his head once more, not searching for the other one who came in with him. The man went on all alone as they were trying to catch Dragon. Thus, besides the injured man behind him, Primo was the only living being in the area.

"I don’t want to say this, but this is strange," Primo jogged his way to the mansion’s staircase, pressing his finger in his earpiece to give those who hadn’t arrived yet or those who were deep within the mansion an idea of his status. "Considering there were three parties in this place right now, it’s oddly quiet."

Again, Primo didn’t hear anything in response and that was alright. Instead, he focused on searching for any traces of Dragon and Hera. He was also expecting some enemies on the way. Primo was ready to fight. But alas, when he took the first turn in the hallway of the second floor, he stopped.

"Holy shit..."

Standing by the end of the hallway, his pupils slowly dilated at the gruesome scene in front of him. Bodies were lying lifeless on the floor, splashes of blood tainted the walls, and blood almost flooded the floor. Primo had witnessed countless crime scenes in the past. To be fair, most of those cases were Primo’s crimes. But this one... it looked a little cleaner. Cleaner in the sense that these men seemed to have died almost instantly.

Primo cautiously tiptoed his way through the bloody scene. As he did so, he squinted his eyes. Some of the bodies still had their eyes opened with clean cuts of what seemed like a sword in different areas of their bodies. Though there were a few who had gunshot wounds, it was clear the majority were slain with a close-combat weapon.

"What the hell is going on?" Primo stopped as he looked at the other end of the hallway. "Don’t tell me this is what that guy’s doing? What a sick bastard."
