Chapter 901: Erase that nasty look on his face
[Miracles start to happen when you give as much energy to your dreams as you do to your fears. They say miracles happen when one believes in them.]
Hera held onto that little hope someone would happen and save Leo with every tick of the clock. But alas, time passed without conditions and they were slowly running out of time. No matter how profound her inner cries and screams for help were, time didn’t stop for anyone.
And then came the time they had to send Leo off.
With Dragon, Hera, and a few other people, they stood under the portico of the mansion. There were also those people who were preparing to leave with Leo. Dragon said they would assist him to the airport and the facility where he would be admitted.
That was a lie, of course.
All of this was nothing but a ruse that Dragon put together to make her accept everything. It was a show for her to believe Leo was going to a better place. If only she didn’t know the truth. Being comforted by this lie didn’t sound bad.
"Take care on your way." Dragon nodded at Leo, standing beside Hera as Leo stood in front of them. "It’s a shame we cannot go with you to the airport, but if you need anything, I’ve told everyone to assist you."
Leo smiled, finding it strange how this situation appeared to be a friendly goodbye when it was, in fact, the opposite. They weren’t sending him off to get better treatment, but more like they were sending him off to his execution. Either way, it wasn’t like Leo hadn’t accepted his fate.
Today was the last.
"It’s fine," Leo replied reassuringly. "You’re already busy, and Hera barely got better. I’m just glad you still bothered sending me off like this."
His smile stretched, setting his eyes on Hera. "Hera, are you okay?" he asked, only to sigh when a tear rolled down her cheek.
Dragon arched a brow as he saw that tear falling, but regarded it as a natural reaction. Hera saw Leo as a good friend. She saw him as someone she was grateful for. Therefore, seeing her tear up about this separation was expected.
"I told you," said Leo in a light tone. "It’s a little sad that we’re saying goodbye today, but this is for the better."
’For the better...’Hera repeated in her mind, eyes fixed on the gentle smile on his face.
"I’ll do my best to get better, and once that happens, I will visit you," Leo reassured and cast Dragon a look. "You don’t mind if I visit her, right?"
Dragon nodded. "Of course." — why would he when he knew that was impossible?
"See?" Leo set his attention back to her, raising his hand to wipe her tears with the back of his hand. "Everything will be fine, Hera. This is a temporary goodbye."
’Temporary, huh...’ Again, Hera repeated his words in her mind. Her lips quivered as they parted, but her voice was stuck in her throat. Hence, she pressed them tight once more, knowing anything that would come out of them might just make things more complicated.
Even at this very second, Leo hadn’t waned. The resolve in his eyes was much more solid than the day before. Despite the ridiculous scheme playing in their exchange, Leo was trying his best to give her words of courage when he was the one being sent to his demise.
"Everything will be okay," Leo repeated, eyes softening while nodding at her mildly. "I’ll be okay."
Hera lowered her eyes as she tried her best to suppress her cries. However, she might’ve succeeded in muffling any noise; her tears wouldn’t stop streaming down her face.
’Please...’she prayed one last time. ’Somebody... help this man.’
Leo let out another sigh as he retrieved his hand from her. He then lifted his eyes to Dragon, nodding at the man slightly.
"Thank you for letting me stay here and for looking after me all this time," he expressed sarcastically to the man he was least thankful for. "I’m forever grateful for that."
The corner of Dragon’s lips curled up as a glint flickered across his eyes. Seeing that ridiculing look on his face, the little smile Leo had for the man disappeared without a trace.
’He finds this amusing, huh?’ Leo mentally scoffed. ’He must be very satisfied to watch the man he is sending to his execution thank him.’
Leo squashed down the unpleasant feeling bubbling within his chest. Instead, he took another deep breath and glanced at her. She still had her head down, making him sigh.
’I guess it’s much better this way,’ he thought, turning on his heel as he took a step away. ’I thought she’d make a fuss about it, considering her mood yesterday. So, seeing her like this is much better.’
On his third step, Leo halted as his heart felt heavy. He slowly balled his hands into a tight fist, his jaw tightening as he clenched his teeth. Thinking back, while Hera was quietly crying and probably dying inside, Dragon was smirking smugly, without care.
’Ahh...’ Leo shoved his hand inside his pocket as he cocked his head back to look at the clear sky. ’What a great weather to die. Well, he’s going to kill me, anyway. Why not act on a whim and do something I want?’
His lips curled up as he let out a chuckle. ’I also want to take away that nasty look on his face. It would be something worth remembering.’ With that thought in mind, Leo suddenly turned on his heel and faced them again.
"Hera," he called as he marched back to her. "I’m sorry."
Hera slowly lifted her head after Leo’s second call. But the moment she caught the person approaching her through her blurry vision, all she saw was a pair of hands stretching toward her face. Her brows rose as Leo’s palm cupped her face, stilling her head as he leaned his face closer while tilting his head to the side.
And before anyone could react, Leo kissed her on the lips right in front of Dragon.
