Chapter 896: I’ll try not to disappoint.
Ivy hugged her knees, recalling everything Katherine spewed before she left while laughing like a maniac. She kept biting her lips, looking around this beautiful and grand prison they put her in. Although the exterior was much better than a regular prison, it felt ten times more suffocating.
It was scary.
This was not something she expected to happen. Or rather, she expected bad things to happen, but she didn’t expect that Dane would be the cause.
"Dane Zhang..." her voice was low and shaky, digging her nails into her biceps as she clasped them. "... so you’re really this person?"
A thin layer of tears coated Ivy’s eyes, almost suffocated from holding back her tears. What she had seen today, those people she had met earlier, and that woman named Katherine was proof Dane had been deceiving everyone all along.
The sweet, gentle, caring, and hardworking Dane Zhang everyone knew was a farce. It was simply a character he played for a very long time.
The real him... was far from that of Dane Zhang in her memory. He was far from her first love.
The mere thought of it hurts.
"How can you do this to us?" she whispered as a tear successfully rolled down her cheek. She knew it was foolish to ask such a stupid question.
Dane did it because he had no conscience, but the truth was always a hard pill to swallow. For sure, she wasn’t the only one who would be hurt by this. Dominic, as well as his family, treated him as a part of their family. Once they found out about this atrocity, it would hurt them more than it would anger them.
"I hate you," she murmured, burying her face in her knees as she hugged them tighter. "Tiger... I’m so scared."
Her sniffles and silent cries echoed in the room, scared and hurt at the same time. Ivy was smart enough to understand the depths of her situation. Sneaking out and escaping wasn’t an option. She was in the middle of nowhere; if Dane brought her here, that meant the idea was harder to complete than it sounded.
[Ivy, my babe, you look so relaxed. I know being in my arms is a treat, but you have to listen to me. This is important.]
Suddenly, Ivy heard Tiger’s voice in her mind. She slowly raised her head, recalling those times Tiger would tell her what to do in certain situations. In one of them, he mentioned something about getting abducted as if he was almost certain it would happen. One of the things he told her was to accept the situation and stay calm.
’How can I calm down?’she wondered to herself. ’You mentioned I might get abducted, but I never thought the person who would do that was someone very close to us.’
Ivy slowly lifted her head, resting her chin on her arms.
"Accept the situation and don’t do anything stupid like negotiating. It’ll most likely anger them," she murmured to herself, recalling Tiger’s reminders in her mind. "Clear your mind and think; find out the enemy’s goal, my importance in the situation, and analyze what sort of people they were."
Her face crumpled as her grip on her shoulder tightened. Closing her eyes a bit, she drew a deep breath to calm herself down. When she reopened her eyes, she reassessed her situation.
"I still don’t know the enemy’s goal or my importance, but I think I know what kind of people I’m dealing with." She nodded at herself, using every bit of her energy to keep a level head in this situation.
Dane and those people were surely a bunch of psychos. She didn’t need to see for herself to know what they were capable of. Moreover, if Dane got this so much control, then that meant she couldn’t underestimate the power in his hands.
[If you get abducted because of me, then they won’t kill you. Hehehe. They won’t dare, or else I’ll just go on a rampage. It’s their loss. So, don’t be too scared if that happens. I’m telling you this, so you can buy me some time. I’ll come to you like a knight in shining armor.]
She pressed her lips together. Most of the reminders Tiger gave her were focused on what his enemy would do to get him. He never considered this type of danger. An abduction that lacked a goal and a hostage that had no importance. No matter how she looked at it, there was nothing Dane would want from her: money, information, or anyone he might want to lure here.
He didn’t need anything from her.
[My point is, if you think they’re stronger than you or that you’re outnumbered, don’t do anything that will hurt you. Don’t get hurt, babe. Just try to stay alive as long as you can. I’ll come even if I have to crawl my way to you.]
As she recalled her memories with Tiger, her tensed shoulder relaxed. Her initially racing heart also stabilized and her eyes softened. Casting the dim room another look, she clenched her teeth.
"I’ll buy you time," she whispered, taking one last jagged breath. Ivy stared at the end of the bed until Tiger’s image appeared there. "I know it’ll be a little hard for you to find me, but I will wait. I’ll buy you as much time as you want, so... you have to come and save me like a knight in shining armor."
Tiger’s image smiled, giving her a little bit of comfort even though he wasn’t real.
"I’m scared, Tiger," she added under her breath as another tear rolled down her cheek. "I’m terrified, so you have to come... no matter what."
*******
Meanwhile...
Tiger stared at the ceiling while lying flat on his back. He hadn’t moved an inch, conserving every ounce of his energy until the day of their plan.
"I’m also in Sorrento," he whispered, making Primo, who was lying on the other bed, look at him. "Yet, I can’t do anything."
Moose, who was sitting in the chair between them, cast him a look. "Be patient. Miss Wei might be scared, but she’s very smart. Not to mention, her willpower is quite scary. Her relationship with you and Heaven is proof she’ll be fine for now."
"Dane Zhang..." Tiger called under his breath, ignoring Moose’s reassurance. "He’s not getting away from this."
Moose shrugged while Primo darted his eyes between the two. Primo let out a shallow breath, almost surprised that Moose tried to console Tiger given their chaotic relationship. But still, it somehow amazed him at this brief display of camaraderie.
"I’ll give him a fitting death." Primo gave it a try to console the man. "I’ll try not to disappoint."
Moose snapped his eyes at Primo and chuckled. "How sweet of you, but don’t bother trying to comfort him. He doesn’t hear us. He’ll just mumble on and on, which explains the earplugs on your bedside table."
"I’m going to tear him apart, take my time, and give him the most agonizing time in his life..." Tiger continued through his gritted teeth. "I’ll make him beg for death — no, I’ll make him regret ever being born."
"See?" Moose grinned while Primo’s face twitched.
Looking back at Tiger, Primo could almost see the fire engulfing Tiger as he cursed the hell out of Dane Zhang. He could almost imagine how many times he murdered the man in his mind.
"If you know comforting him will not work, why did you even try?" Primo blurted out as he looked at Moose, only to see the man shrug.
"To see him cry?" Moose explained and smiled from ear to ear. "It would be nice to see him cry because Hera — I mean, Heaven told me he’s a crybaby. I’ve always wondered if that’s true. I thought today is the perfect chance for that after many years."
"..." Primo was rendered speechless at Moose’s explanation. ’Camaraderie, my ass!’
