Chapter 895: Not very bright

Meanwhile...

"Ugh..." Ivy grunted as her head throbbed the second she regained consciousness. She held her hand, pushing herself up with her eyes partially shut. "This is killing me."

After a second, memories of before losing her consciousness flooded her mind unannounced. Her mouth fell open as her eyes grew wider.

’Right,’ she thought, breath hitching as she recalled that sinister look on Dane’s face. "Right. Dane... no, that man..."

"It’s not that man. It’s Dimitri."

Ivy flinched when a woman’s voice suddenly rang in the room. She looked around, squinting her eyes to see better through the dimness. When her vision adjusted to the dimness, she caught a figure in the dark corner of the room.

"Who... are you?" she asked, her guard all up.

The person sitting on the couch in the darkest corner of the room simply stared at Ivy quietly.

"I asked you!" Ivy raised her voice in panic, flinging her legs out of the bed as if to make a run for it. "Who are you!?"

Ivy’s breath hitched, and she froze. The moment Ivy’s feet touched the floor, a knife suddenly landed an inch from her toe. Looking down, her wide eyes shook.

"I missed on purpose," said the unwelcomed visitor as she slowly rose from her seat. "If I were you, don’t even bother running away or giving us a hard time. Our hands are full at the moment and the last thing we want is a nuisance in the house."

The woman slowly sleeked out of the shadow, revealing her dazzling look to the nuisance Dane took home. Ivy looked up at the woman; shiny and beautiful golden hair like the morning sun and bright green eyes that resembled a meadow.

"You’re that... woman," Ivy blurted out under her breath, recalling that woman who was with some people earlier.

"Katherine is the name," said the woman, resting her hand on her hip. She assessed Ivy from head to toe and then scoffed. "Nothing worthy."

"Huh?"

"You’re not that bad, but your face and body are mid-average at best," Katherine explained nonchalantly. "I don’t understand why he would take you with him."

Ivy scoffed, almost responding with a sarcastic remark. However, her throat didn’t let go of any stupid remarks she had about Katherine. Instead, she assessed the woman up and down. To be fair, Katherine was gorgeous, like a model from head to toe. But for sure, her soul was not.

"He said because you happened to be with him when the attack happened. What a big liar." Katherine continued, clicking her tongue in annoyance. "If that’s only the reason, he should’ve just killed you. Dead men tell no tales."

"What do you want from me?" Ivy asked through her gritted teeth. "Where is he?"

"He’s busy."

"Let me talk to him."

"Why?"

"Why?" Ivy repeated with a mocking short laugh. "You’re not asking because you don’t know, do you?"

Katherine smiled. "I’m asking why you need to talk to him when you know he will simply deny your request to go home. Why bother?"

Ivy slowly balled her hands into a tight fist, biting her inner bottom lip until the taste of iron filled her taste buds. She kept her eyes on Katherine, who was clearly enjoying the sight of her.

"I don’t approve that an outsider is in this place. And it’s even more vexing to be asked to babysit you," Katherine spoke, marching in Ivy’s direction. As she got closer, she bent down, making Ivy lean back. She rested her hand on Ivy’s side. Slowly, when her face was a palm length away from the latter, she stopped.

"I heard your name is Ivy Wei, a spoiled princess from birth. Someone who never struggled in life." Katherine’s voice toned down, making it sound equally seductive and dangerous. "Maybe, because of that, he took an interest in you. After all, people like you are the types he likes to play with the most."

Ivy’s lips quivered, unable to look away from the pair of emeralds mirroring her. But despite the dread creeping up her spine, she felt insulted by the assumption Katherine was spewing.

"Never struggled in life?" Ivy forced out a breath, holding back the tears that her fear was generating. "Is that what you think? Just because of my background, you believed I never struggled?"

Katherine blinked. "Is that not the case?"

"Haha..." Ivy let out a scornful chuckle. "No wonder, despite the beauty you have, you sound insecure. You’re not very bright."

"Not very... bright?" The smile on Katherine’s face disappeared. "Me?"

"I don’t care who you are people or what sort of business you guys have. I’m not interested in any of it." Ivy swallowed down the tension in her throat, squashing the growing fear in her heart. "I just want to go home."

Katherine smacked her lips and pushed herself away, sitting on the edge of the bed beside Ivy. She lifted her foot, resting it over her other leg. Her hands rested on the mattress, leaning back comfortably.

"Apparently, you and I got no say in it," she remarked, cocking her head and setting her eyes on Ivy. "I don’t want you to be here either. After all, I told myself I was going to carry his child once he came back from his mission. It won’t be good if he’s wasting some of his energy on you. You know what I mean?"

Ivy leaned back slightly, eyes still on Katherine. ’What a disgusting thing to even consider. Is she a pervert?’

"Miss Ivy Wei, let me give you a piece of advice." Katherine lowered her head slightly, eyes and brows up. "You should forget the idea of ever going home — alive or dead. Because I won’t wait until he’s sick and tired of you. I’ll kill you."

Ivy froze as she held her breath in an instant.

"Not now, of course." Katherine chuckled, pushing herself away and picking up the knife embedded in the floor while seated. "But I’ll find a way or maybe you’ll give me. Whether you struggle or not, your ending will be the same."

Once the knife was in her hands, she placed it under Ivy’s chin to lift her head a bit. "All I need is an excuse. And I know you’ll give that to me. Once that happens, this same knife will go straight to your throat." A sinister giggle escaped Katherine’s closed lips.

"I’m watching you, Miss Ivy Wei."
