Chapter 892: Leo’s resentment
Chapter 892: Leo’s resentment
"How can you... hurt her and speak words of love so lightly at the same time?"
Leo left a long pause after his remarks while Dragon assessed the man. A shallow breath slipped past Dragon, almost disappointed at him.
"You went further than I expected," Dragon remarked calmly, brushing off Leo’s hand from his collar. He slowly rose from his seat while tugging his suit, facing the man squarely. "Normally, I wouldn’t mind keeping you while knowing you’re harboring romantic feelings for my wife. After all, she’s mine and will always be mine."
"You’re not the first person who wants to claim her," he continued. "However, I don’t have the energy to compete any longer, nor do I plan to give anyone a chance. I’ve already won."
Dragon paused as he fixed his tie. "In two days, my team will infiltrate an enemy in hiding. You’re going with them. Of course, you’ll tell her you’re simply going abroad to receive further treatment." The corner of his lips curled up.
"Mr. Wu, I’ve been in this industry long enough to see through your scheme the first time you pitched it." He nodded reassuringly. "I didn’t make a mistake, just as you said I did. I can dispose of you in countless different ways and as natural as a heart attack."
With that being said, Dragon turned on his heel and walked away. He stopped after a few steps.
"Hera is not an object that anyone could just claim," Leo spewed without regard to the more pressing matter. It wasn’t like he didn’t know Dragon would dispose of him. He just didn’t know which method that devil would use. "She’s human. She had emotion. Simple words like that... just how can you be so oblivious to how such words could cut a person’s heart?"
Dragon glanced over his shoulder. "If she hadn’t lost her memories, she’d laughed and disagreed with you."
"No!" Leo raised his voice, grinding his teeth. "I don’t know the version of Hera that you knew, but I’m sure she wouldn’t completely disagree with me."
His throat shook as he gulped the bitterness in his throat. "After hearing everything you said and all those little details in the past, I now realize you don’t seem to know her just as you claimed, Dragon."
"Hah." Dragon chuckled as he shook his head, resuming his languid steps away. "It’s futile to argue with you, but words aren’t enough to hurt her. I can vouch for that."
Leo opened his mouth but swallowed back his argument. Instead, he stared at Dragon’s back until the latter disappeared from his sight.
"Hah..." he breathed out, reaching for the table as he wobbled down to his seat. "How can you believe anyone would ever be okay with that?"
Dragon’s every word poked Leo’s every nerve. That man never ceased to make Leo feel small and pathetic, and he never failed to remind him he was at his mercy. That alone was enough to anger him to the core. However, no matter how angry he was at the man, Leo was even furious at himself.
At the end of the day, that was the truth. He was at Dragon’s mercy.
"Useless..." Leo punched the table as hard as he could, making the plates and cutleries clatter. "Useless! Pathetic! Useless!"
He punched and punched the table until his knuckles were bleeding. Yet, he didn’t stop as the growing anger in every fiber of his being slowly crystallized and morphed into self-loath. Leo resented himself for being so useless and powerless.
If there was more loathsome between the two of them, that would be Leo.
"Pathetic..." After countless assaults, Leo clenched his teeth as drops of tears landed on the blood smeared on the surface of the table. "Hera... I’m sorry... that I couldn’t do anything."

Meanwhile...
"Fig, are you still there?"
Sitting alone in the family room where they held a meeting, Heaven tapped her fingers on the armrest. Everyone left once the meeting concluded. Dominic went with Bear to practice shooting. Moose wheeled Tiger and Primo back to their rooms, and Wolf went to make a phone call. Thus, Heaven was left alone in the room.
From the table in the table, Fig’s voice was heard. "Yes, I’m still here."
"You said she refused to go?" she recalled, earning a hum from the line. "Why?"
Fig didn’t reply immediately as he hesitated. "Leo Wu." After his answer, he waited for any noises from the other end of the line, but nothing.
"Are you still there?" asked Fig curiously. "If you are, what are your thoughts about it?"
"It’s a little unpopular, but I’m selfishly relieved."
"Hmm?"
Heaven slowly leaned back until the back of her head was resting on the backrest, eyes on the ceiling. "Being me might’ve been too much to bear for Heaven. Even I can barely tolerate being myself. That woman’s threshold is quite low, so I was worried about her. But now that I know Leo was with her, I’m sure she was fine. Mentally and, hopefully, emotionally."
Fig didn’t speak this time, understanding her point. It wasn’t like he had anything to add to that.
"It doesn’t look like it, but Leo being with her is enough to save her," she added quietly, knowing perfectly well just how deep the original Heaven Liu’s feelings for the man. "Even after years of confining herself and even though another soul is in control of her body, this heart of hers always skips a beat at the sight of him."
"It must have been an unpleasant feeling for you."
"It was unpleasant and somewhat surprising. Controlling this heart of hers was a challenge I will never forget. It left me with a meaningful lesson. Heaven Liu..." she whispered. "I feel sorry for her."
"You didn’t wish for this to happen."
"But it happened because of me."
Fig didn’t argue because, in a way, she had a point. Everything had happened because Hera Cruel was alive.
"Are you okay?" he asked after a long silence. "Now that we’re in this situation, is it too much to bear?"
"I’m used to the weight," she replied, keeping her eyes on the ceiling. "It’s the only available option I had. After all, we all have to move forward at some point. But compared to the past, the weight doesn’t feel as crippling."
Her lips curled up as her eyes softened. "You told me back then that I was not alone. I never was. Initially, I shrugged it off. But as we delve deeper into this matter, those words you spewed back then resonate with me. You’re right, Fig. I’m never alone because I got people... good people who are willing to carry that weight with me."
"Hera Cruel knew that, but at the back of her mind, she simply didn’t want to pass on that responsibility to her family. But now, I can’t go back to my ways. Call it a futile attempt to be sane, but I can’t go back to being Hera," she added with a light voice. "That is why, as selfish as it sounds, I’ll have to trust and rely on everyone. Perhaps, because of that, this weight on my shoulders right now isn’t as unbearable as it is supposed to be."
"I see." Fig smiled as he heaved a sigh of relief. "I’m glad to hear that."
"I bet you are." Heaven snapped her eyes at the tablet on the table. "Anyway, have you heard from Joker?"
"Not yet."
"Are those two safe? I’m asking about Deborah and Hunter," she asked immediately. "Do you think you can leave them for a while?"
"Yes. I brought them to one of the facilities I sponsored. So, I’m certain they’ll be fine."
"If that’s the case, then find Joker for me," she ordered, still lazing on the couch. "I couldn’t reach him. That guy also worries me."
Fig nodded even though she couldn’t see him. "I’m also worried about him. He should’ve reached his destination by now. Good thing he told me where he was going."
"Then go. I’ll still need you."
"Mhm. I’ll hang up now." Just before Fig could end the call, Hera spoke again.
"Fig," she called, earning a curious hum from him. "Get him quickly. I’m planning to move our schedule. Leo had been there for quite some time, and I’m afraid that woman would make a mistake."
