Chapter 872: The true nightmare

Chapter 872: The true nightmare

Many people sympathized with Primo and his family. Others would secretly whisper with one another, blaming his greed. Although none of those people was courageous enough to say it to his face, Primo agreed with them.

It was his fault this had happened.

If only he hadn’t taken the case, those kids wouldn’t have experienced such a nightmare. They would still be okay.

It was all his fault.

All his fault.

All his...

"Big brother, wake up! It’s already late — you said you still have a court battle today!"

"Ugh..." Primo let out a grunt as his body continued to move by some outside force.

"Big brother! Wake up!" Alexa and Martin continued to rock their big brother’s body to wake him up. When Primo was just grunting, the two looked at each other. Their lips curled up mischievously and, acting on their mischievous thoughts, they jumped on their brother to wake him up.

"Big brother!"

"Big brother! If you don’t wake up, you’ll become one with the bed!"

"One with the bed!" Martin repeated adorably, clinging to Primo’s leg.

The two children continued jumping on the bed and Primo until Martin’s weight landed on Primo’s stomach. Primo gasped as he instinctively sat up in pain at the abrupt weight in his stomach. Alexa and Martin stopped, looking at their big brother with doe eyes.

"Martin, you should’ve been careful," Alexa scolded her little brother. "Don’t jump on his stomach like that again."

"But big sister is jumping on him too..." Martin pouted as he reasoned out, warranting an earful from the usually timid Alexa.

Primo, on the other hand, held his stomach and then gazed at the two children. Alexa was still scolding Martin while the little boy shrunk a little. Deep lines appeared between Primo’s brows, darting his shaky eyes between the children.

"Look at him..." Alexa trailed off as she furrowed her brows upon seeing the look on Primo’s face. Martin also turned, only to catch the tear rolling down his brother’s cheek.

"Hah!" Martin panicked. "Big brother, did it hurt that much?! Martin is sorry! I didn’t mean it!"

"Oh, no, Martin!" Alexa also panicked, looking at her brother and blaming him for hurting their big brother. "Martin, you made Big Brother cry..."

Alexa trailed off as Primo suddenly pulled the two of them into his embrace. Their brows rose in confusion, turning their heads to their big brother. When Martin’s eyes met his big sister’s, Alexa shrugged.

"Thank goodness..." Primo breathed out, tightening his grip around the children and feeling relieved to feel their warmth. "Thank goodness... you’re alright."

"Big brother..." Alexa called with a tinge of confusion but ended up not saying a word.

For a moment, Primo just held the children with a heart full of gratitude and relief. He couldn’t put into words how grateful he was to be woken up from that nightmare.

He knew it.

There was no way that nightmare was reality.

"Thank god..." A smile of relief dominated his face, releasing the children from his embrace. Pulling himself back, he looked at the children with soft eyes.

"Big brother, did it hurt that much?" Martin asked with a shaky voice, only to see Primo shake his head.

"It’s not like that."

"Then why is Big Brother crying?" Alexa asked, both children tilting their heads to the side.

Primo’s smile stretched as he chuckled. "Big brother was having a nightmare, and I thought I wouldn’t wake up."

"That is why..." he paused and cupped their cheeks. "Big Brother is happy that you woke me up from that nightmare."

The two children stared at his face before they grinned.

"Alexa! Martin! Did you wake him up!? Tell him he had an important court battle today and he can’t be late!"

The children and Primo turned their heads upon hearing the call from outside. The voice was a little faint, indicating the owner of the voice was somewhere in the house.

"Right! Big Brother! You should eat now! Big Sister Marra prepared a huge breakfast!" Alexa perked up as she turned her attention to Primo.

And Martin backed up, "She’ll be angry if you don’t eat before going!"

Primo chuckled at the thought. Marra was truly acting like everyone’s mother. Even though she was still a high school student, she was more responsible than he was.

"Big Brother, I’ll tell her you’re already in the bathroom so hurry!" Alexa remarked while Martin nodded, ready to cover for him to avoid their big sister’s wrath. However, Primo shook his head.

"It’s fine," he said with a smile. "I’ll have breakfast first."

"Huh?" Both children cocked their heads to the side, earning a chuckle from him.

Primo pinched their cheeks mildly. "There’s nothing more important than you guys. Let’s have breakfast together."

Martin and Alexa raised their brows before a priceless smile turned up on their faces. They nodded in satisfaction, holding each of Primo’s hands as they made their way to the kitchen where Marra was. When they reached their destination, Primo stopped by the entrance, eyes on the young lady preparing the table.

’Marra,’he thought, smiling affectionately.

"Does he know what time is it?" Marra murmured in irritation. "He rarely oversleeps. You guys —!"

She halted before she could even yell once more, catching three figures at the entrance. Marra furrowed her brows as soon as she locked eyes with Primo.

"Brother?" she called, looking at Primo strangely. "What... happened? Is there something wrong?"

Primo sniffed hard and forced a smile, shaking his head mildly. "Nothing!" he forced out a breath.

"Big sis, big brother said he had a nightmare, and he’s been crying!" Martin explained while Alexa nodded.

"A nightmare?" Marra repeated and chuckled, looking back at Primo teasingly. "Big brother, who would have thought that even at that age, you’d still cry over a nightmare?"

"Marra, don’t tease me."

"Is that a sign of aging?" Marra chuckled, putting a stop to Primo’s tears. "Big brother, that’s what you get for staying up late at night without food in your stomach. Sit down while I get the breakfast."

"I’ll do it!" Primo volunteered and gazed down at the children.

Alexa and Martin released his hand and ran to their seats. Meanwhile, Primo strutted his way to Marra and stopped a step from her.

"You should sit down and I’ll get the food," he repeated and pointed at the pot in the kitchen. "It’s that one, right?"

Marra arched a brow. "Brother, is the nightmare really that bad? Why are you acting so strangely?"

If only she knew how bad it was, she would understand. However, Primo didn’t feel like giving out the details to her, since it wasn’t important anymore.

"Also, why haven’t you showered? Didn’t you say today’s court meeting is important?" she continued, only to see Primo shake his head.

"It’s not as important as I thought it was," he said, putting his hand on her shoulder and smiling reassuringly. "Don’t worry about such things anymore, Marra. I just thought it’s been a while since we had breakfast together, and I kind of miss starting my morning with you guys."

Marra blinked, tilting her head a little to the side.

"From today onwards, I’ll do my best to take care of you guys," Primo continued. "And maybe spend more time with you."

"You’re already taking care of us —"

"Marra." Primo smiled, squeezing her shoulder slightly. "Didn’t you say your exams are coming up? You should focus on that. Don’t worry about Alexa and Martin. I will look after them."

"Brother..."

"I’m doing this because I want to," he added reassuringly. "So, focus on yourself. You’ve been taking care of us when you should also take care of yourself. I’m your big brother, so it’s a little concerning that my younger sister takes care of me."

"It’s not like I hate it," she murmured and pouted. "Anyway, just get the food so we can eat. I’m really hungry."

"Mhm."

With that being said, Marra sat down in her seat while Primo glanced at them with a satisfied smile. He stood there for a moment until Marra snapped her finger to bring him back to the current lapse.

"Yes, yes. I’ll get it now." Primo chuckled and shook his head, walking to the kitchen to get the food. As he did so, the smile on his face stretched. Holding the pot, another chuckle escaped him.

What a silly man, he thought, crying over a nightmare.

Primo picked up the pot with both his hands, but when he turned around, the table was empty. Blood was smeared all over the place, and then this faint sound coming from the toilet caressed his ears. The warm atmosphere was instantly replaced with silence, and the air mixed with the pungent scent of blood.

So, this was another nightmare as well, huh?
