Chapter 865: He must be a fan

[GREENHOUSE]

Dragon frowned and checked his wristwatch. It had been a while since he received word that Hera was already on the way. Considering the distance between the greenhouse and the main residence, she should’ve been here by now, even if she walked.

"Is there something wrong, Dragon?"

Dragon arched a brow and shifted his eyes to Ram upon the latter’s question. Currently, they were seated at a long table with some other people, including Leo Wu.

"It’s getting late." Ram snapped his eyes at the glass walls. "Where is she?"

"She’s already on the way," Dragon answered monotonously, glancing at his wristwatch again. "Something probably happened on the way."

"Something, like?" Ram tilted his head to the side. "Getting assassinated? Perhaps, abducted?"

Dragon sneered, balling his hands under the table. "Ram, is that what you want to do to my wife?"

"Hera is not your wife." Ram picked up the wine near him as he spoke. "As far as I am concerned, you’re married to a woman named June."

"We might’ve joined hands now, but do not test your luck, Ram."

"My. I am not testing anything. All I’m saying is that you’re quite lax in terms of security."

"I reassure you, it’s not as lax as it appears," Dragon smirked. "It’s just that I like watching a mouse sneak around, only to die due to their own carelessness."

Ram nodded and shrugged. "If that is what you believe."

"Hunter is a different case and I admit it, it was a product of an upstart. I don’t recall making that same mistake till the present," Dragon remarked before he slowly rose from his seat. "Anyway, I’ll go look for her. Hera can be quite clumsy and thinking back, I didn’t reconsider that the path she’d walked on wasn’t something her footwear would suit."

Dragon kept his eyes on Ram and then glanced at everyone at the table. "I’ll be back."

With that being said, Dragon turned around. As soon as he did, the subtle smile on his face faded as a glint flickered across his eyes.

Meanwhile, Ram kept his eyes on Dragon’s back as the man walked away.

"What a temper he has." Ram shook his head as he enjoyed the wine, arching a brow as he noticed a person from the corner of his eyes. He slowly set his attention to a man who had the prettiest face at this dinner.

"It’s the first time I’ve seen you," Ram pointed out, eyes on Leo. "Are you a new member of this family?"

"Huh?" Leo pointed at himself, gulping down the rising tension in his throat. "About that... it’s a little complicated."

"Dragon isn’t here and this dinner wouldn’t start until he returns." Ram smiled amicably. "I have time to listen to this complicated story."

Leo bit his tongue, unable to look away from the old man. It was already hard to be in the same space as Dragon and Ram, as the two would indirectly attack each other when there was an opening. Hearing their banter could make anyone have indigestion. But it was different if Ram’s attention was on him.

"How do I say this?" Leo muttered, thinking of his words carefully so as not to make a bad impression on Ram and, at the same time, not offend Dragon if he heard about it.

What a tricky situation!

"I’m... a guest." Leo smiled, as this was the safest explanation he could think of. "Dragon invited me here, so here I am."

"He invited you to his home, huh?" Ram nodded in understanding. "He must be a fan, then."

"Huh?"

"Leo Wu, was it?" Ram maintained a smile while Leo’s faded. "You don’t have to lie for Dragon. No amount of lies can cover the rotting smell of his soul."

Leo’s shoulders tensed up a little, surprised at how this man got this information. Up until now, Leo didn’t know if Ram was actually an ally or Dragon’s enemy. Considering how Ram would talk to Dragon, he wasn’t a subordinate for sure.

Was he also another mafia boss?

"Although something doesn’t add up. This had been in my head ever since you came into this place." Ram rubbed his chin mildly, narrowing his eyes at Leo. "What I don’t understand is why would he take you as a hostage? Sure. You’re a famous actor, but I don’t see any benefit he would get by abducting you so boldly at that."

Leo forced a smile and shrugged. He wanted to tell him Hera was to blame, but he didn’t want to implicate her. After all, Leo was unsure of who this old man was and what sort of role he had in this situation.

"Maybe..." Leo hummed as he smiled subtly. "... he’s a fan?"

"Haha!" Ram chuckled. "What a smart little man. Unfortunately, I can’t help you get out of here."

"I’ve already forgotten any idea of getting out of here. I’m just glad I’m still alive and well taken care of." Leo smacked his lips as he looked around the setting of the dinner. "Moreover, even though I’m a mere hostage, it doesn’t feel like that at all. I’ve never heard of any hostage who gets invited to such a lavish dinner."

"You don’t mean that, do you, Mr. Wu?" Ram replied knowingly, swirling the glass of wine nonchalantly. "Being a hostage and feeling imprisoned doesn’t necessarily mean you have to be bound by a chain."

"That’s true." Leo maintained a short smile and sighed. "But I know what I’m capable of and not. So nurturing ill intentions won’t do me good. I’d rather use the energy to make sure I survive first."

"What a smart man." Ram chuckled as he nodded in satisfaction. "Believe me or not, but I sincerely hope you won’t die in here."

Leo lowered his head slightly. "I’ll do my best to learn everything I can, so I survive."

"But I’m afraid it’ll be too late before you learn all the things you need to escape this place."

Deep lines appeared between Leo’s brows, looking at Ram in puzzlement.

"What I’m saying is... this family might fall soon," Ram clarified. "I’m saying this because it’s a shame if you get implicated in it. In the underground, being a good person isn’t important. Your good deeds don’t count, especially if you choose an incompetent man to follow. You’d still get killed."

Ram lifted the glass as a gesture of toast while Leo lowered his gaze.

’Dragon...’ Leo held his breath as he processed Ram’s remarks. ’... will fall soon?’
