Chapter 853: Do you now understand?
Meanwhile...
"That’s really weird." Axel rubbed his chin, unable to shake the thought that Moose had disappeared today.
Having spent time with Moose, Axel had grown familiar with Moose’s antics. Moose was not the type to simply leave without a word, especially when most members of the board respected him. It was one of his charms and what he called his work ethic. Hence, Axel couldn’t get it out of his head.
"Lester, did you find out if Mr. M had an emergency?" Axel turned to his assistant seated in the front passenger seat. "Or did he respond to your calls?"
Lester, Axel’s assistant, glanced back at Axel. "Unfortunately, we couldn’t reach Director M. I tried reaching out to his assistant, but all I got was that he had to attend to a prior commitment. Hence, he left without a word."
"A prior commitment, huh?" Axel furrowed his brows, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. "That’s even more peculiar."
"Are you worried about Mr. M, sir?"
"Maybe?" Axel answered absentmindedly. "Mr. M views the members of the board as his money tree. Even if he knew they wouldn’t take it to heart if he left without a word, that’s still not like him."
From Axel’s perspective, Moose saw his "money trees" as his own children. Even if he knew his "children" would love him no matter what, he still took the initiative to take care of them. He called it his investment.
"If you’re still concerned about Director M, I’ll try reaching out to him again," Lester suggested, observing Axel refocus his attention. "I’ll let you know once I manage to reach him."
"I appreciate that, but there’s no need," Axel replied, shaking his head dismissively. "I’ll call him when I have some extra time. Even though my sister helped me with a month’s worth of work, we need to maintain momentum. I don’t want to be buried in work again."
Lester smiled and nodded. Looking away, he fixed his gaze on the windshield, seeing their vehicle entering the Lyon Group’s underground parking lot. Axel, on the other hand, shook his head once more, attempting to rid himself of unnecessary thoughts.
So what if Moose disappeared? It wasn’t as if Moose didn’t have a life outside the company. Moreover, wasn’t Axel getting a little clingy just because no one else would hang out with him due to a conflict of schedule?
’Even so...’ Axel lowered his gaze, recalling the time he accompanied Heaven to the secret floor for days. ’Her investigations at that time were too... suspicious. Even though I couldn’t understand most of them, she did warn me to forget whatever information I saw because it was better not to know some things in life.’
He exhaled deeply, shutting his eyes. "Don’t dwell on it, Axel. Just don’t dwell on it," he repeated until he convinced himself to focus on more pressing matters.
With that in mind, Axel opened his eyes as their vehicle came to a stop. Surveying his surroundings as his assistant exited the car, he exhaled deeply once more. Soon after, Lester opened the door for him, and Axel stepped out.
As Axel stepped out, he frowned at the piercing noise of a motorcycle. Axel and Lester turned towards the source, squinting at the lights beaming at them. Axel raised an arm to shield his eyes while Lester moved in front of Axel protectively.
When the motorcycle screeched to a halt, Axel slowly lowered his arm to see the rider. Deep lines formed between his brows upon recognizing the approaching person.
"Tiger?" he called, instinctively taking a step back as Tiger approached with intense eyes.
Sensing Tiger’s intense, ominous aura, Lester stepped forward. However, Tiger didn’t halt until Lester’s arm blocked his path.
"Take another step, and I’ll be forced to stop you," Lester warned authoritatively, eyes sharp. "What’s your business with CEO Zhu, Tiger? Your aura seems hostile."
Tiger glanced at the arm across his chest before lifting his eyes to its owner. "I could’ve ended you if I intended harm, young man," he muttered, redirecting his intense gaze toward Axel.
The moment Tiger locked eyes with Axel, the latter flinched. Axel had known Tiger for a while now, but the intensity in Tiger’s eyes was unnerving. It seemed as though Tiger was on the verge of violence but was somehow reining it in.
"Axel," Tiger said in a low voice. "Don’t you have a place called the secret room? Or something similar? The place where you gather information?"
"Uh..." Axel cleared his throat, trying to find his voice. "Yes. It’s called the secret floor."
"Find her for me."
Axel furrowed his brows. "Find who?"
"Ivy. I don’t have time to explain everything, but she’s with Mr. Zhang."
"She’s with Dane?" Axel frowned, not initially alarmed by that statement. However, he reconsidered as he assessed Tiger’s appearance. "Tiger, are you alright? You’re bleeding. Did you get into a fight—"
"Ivy is in danger," Tiger interrupted, his voice trembling.
Taking another step forward, he halted once more as Lester placed his arm in his way. Looking down at Lester’s arm, Tiger clenched his teeth. In one swift move, he grabbed Lester’s arm and effortlessly threw him back towards the car.
Without hesitation, Tiger lunged towards Axel, seizing him by the collar. Despite the sound of a gun being cocked, Tiger slammed Axel’s back against the vehicle Axel came from.
"Don’t shoot! It’s fine! I know him and he will not hurt me." Axel instinctively yelled at his driver, his eyes wide at Tiger’s intense gaze. "Tiger, what’s gotten into you?"
"Ivy is in danger," Tiger repeated. "Mr. Zhang... I went to Dane Zhang’s hometown and found out that Dane Zhang died many years ago."
"Huh?"
"That man, Axel, the man we know as Dane Zhang isn’t Dane." At this point, Tiger was panting heavily. His grip on Axel’s collar tightened, his teeth gritted. "His real name is Dimitri. He’s a mob psycho, and right now, Ivy is with him. Do you understand now?!"
