Chapter 844: She truly is a monster

Chapter 844: She truly is a monster

"No, shit."

Standing at the forest’s entrance, Primo stared at thick smoke billowing into the sky, forming a cloud. Despite the distance, he felt the heat emanating from the helicopter crash. Uncertainty loomed over him. Was he supposed to feel relieved they survived? Or was this newfound knowledge of Heaven’s prowess an added scare to his heart? Either way, Primo was out of danger... for now.

"Didn’t you say you’re injured?"

Snapping out of his trance, Primo heard Moose’s voice from behind. He turned to see Moose removing his helmet as he idled on his motorcycle.

"You’re not acting like one," Moose pointed out, gazing at the man from head to toe. "There’s blood for sure, but are they even yours?"

"My adrenaline still hasn’t worn off." Ignoring the sarcasm in Moose’s tone, Primo checked his injuries. "I think I need to get to the emergency room."

"I can perform surgery if you want."

"Do you think I’m dumb?"

"Hey, I’m a licensed doctor!" Moose protested. "I saved lives many times in the past."

"Is your license even real?" Primo clicked his tongue, slumping in the same spot to rest. He peeked up at Moose once again and asked in a much quieter tone. "Were you really a doctor in the past?"

Moose let out a snicker as he folded his arms under his chest. "One of the best."

"Then why did you..." Primo trailed off as he took a deep breath, running his tongue across his inner cheek. "Never mind."

"Were you going to ask why I chose to be a part of the underground?" Moose guessed. "Why did you stop? I don’t think you’re the type to back down whenever you have questions in mind."

Primo didn’t answer. Instead, he checked his injury to ensure he wasn’t losing too much blood.

"Or were you worried I’d ask you the same question, Attorney?" Moose continued after a moment, watching Primo freeze for a second.

Primo slowly gazed up at him. "So, you found out about my past, huh?"

"Credits to Wolf!"

"Hah." Primo scoffed and shook his head. "Right. That damn bastard. I never thought that arrogant prick was also a part of the Reapers."

"You’d be surprised to know who else are members of our group."

"I don’t need to know. At this point, I understand that the Reapers are all sick in the head. Those kinds who could have contributed positively to the development of this world, but chose to use their great minds to make it worse."

"Ohh... talking about yourself now, huh?" Moose teased. "Well, money had always been my driving force. You can say it’s also the root of why I ended up in the underground. One thing led to another and before I knew it, I was already under the wing of such a powerful yet scary woman."

As Moose reminisced, Primo noticed the nonchalant demeanor masking Moose’s past.

"One will say being a doctor will get you out of poverty, but then, reality will strike you hard and wake you up from that dream," Moose continued with a long hum. "What’s taking her so long?"

Primo kept his gaze fixated on Moose, relating to the man’s every word he spewed just now. "That reality you woke up to..." he paused, watching Moose return his gaze to him. "... was it that bad?"

"It was detrimental. Bastard superiors, low pay, ungrateful and privileged patients. I can list down all the annoying bits and pieces of a new resident." Moose shrugged. "It’s nothing if you love the job and saving lives; it’s a good, moral, and rewarding career. Maybe I just met the wrong people at that time."

"Do you regret it?"

"Regret, what?" he cocked his head to the side. "Regret turning from saving lives to taking them? No. Not even a second."

The corner of his lips curled up as he looked away, eyes on the forest. "This might sound cheesy, but ironically, I felt more valued after meeting her. In this ever-changing world, everyone is dispensable. Although it’s the same in the underground, I know for sure that even if I die on a mission, someone will still light a candle for me and will proudly say I existed."

"That’s sounds..." Primo let out a chuckle as he gazed down. "Too simple and cheesy."

"I warned you." Moose humored with a laugh. "Anyway, she surely is vicious and ruthless. So scary!"

With that mention, both men instinctively looked around at their surroundings. There were some convoys in the area, but all the people in it were shot dead.

"Did she do all of this?" asked Primo, even though he already knew the answer.

"They weren’t here when I arrived," Moose replied while shaking his head. "I guess their backup arrived at the same time as her, or maybe a little earlier. Good news for us. At least we didn’t have to deal with them now."

"I guess you’re right." Primo nodded, looking back at Moose. Both men stared at each other for a second before they chuckled, shaking their heads mildly.

"Anyway, I know I’ve asked a lot of questions. But since we don’t have too much to do while waiting, can I ask another one?" Primo broached, only to hear Moose reply with a nonchalant, "You can try your luck."

"How did you become involved with Heaven Liu?" Primo inquired without much hesitation. "I mean, how did you find her?"

Moose smirked once more as he chuckled, snapping his eyes back at him. "I didn’t find her, but rather, she did." — just like how she also found him many years ago.

Moose slowly rose, straightening his back, eyes back on the forest. "There she is," he announced in a relaxed manner, making Primo turn his head to the entrance of the forest.

There, they caught a silhouette of a person. They narrowed their eyes and soon caught Heaven marching through the woods while dragging a soldier by his feet.

"She... truly is a monster," Primo whispered at the sight of her.
