Chapter 843: Guess that’s no longer our concern now

Many questions lingered in Primo’s mind about why this man, known as Mr. M, came to his rescue. He knew Moose, or rather, had heard about him in the underground. Moose, a figure known in the underground, operated in the gray areas between legality and the shadows. But Primo had deeper knowledge other than what was common.

Moose was once part of the enigmatic Reapers, adding shock to Primo’s surprise at the mention of his connection to Dominic way back.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

The roar of gunfire rattled behind them as Primo hunkered down on Moose’s motorcycle. Bullets pierced the air, urging him to grip tighter as they careened through rough terrain.

"Argh!" a grunt escaped his gritted teeth, feeling the pain from his injuries. "Watch it, man! You have an injured man back here!"

"Sure thing." Moose’s reply dripped with sarcasm.

Primo clicked his tongue in irritation but was unable to refute the sarcasm. This was not a situation where they had to be careful. It was a matter of survival.

"Just keep going — why are we even going the other way!?" he yelled, wrestling his rifle into position.

"Haven’t you studied the geography of the forest?!" Moose shot back while Primo carefully moved back a little to make some room.

"Heaven Liu didn’t give me a map!" Primo retorted. "All I know is the area I explored, which you probably know by now, isn’t much!"

Primo launched a round of gunfire, aiming at everyone within sight. His assaults aimed to either slow them down or take them down completely. Either way, it didn’t matter much. Getting caught would mean they would die. They might as well try their best to survive by any means. Nothing new.

"I guess that’ll do for now." He huffed after almost emptying his rifle, looking around their surroundings. "Where is she, by the way?"

"Who?"

"Heaven Liu."

"Who knows?"

Frowning, Primo peered at Moose. "What’s that supposed to mean?"

"It means what it means, dimwit." Moose glanced at the side mirror and then set his attention ahead. "Stop talking to me, will you? Don’t forget that chopper over our heads. Just wish she’d see that big thing and do something about it."

Primo pressed his lips into a thin line, looking up. The helicopter was obviously following them; one of the cons riding a motorcycle. It made them too visible and easy to follow.

"How would she make it disappear?" he murmured, almost in disbelief. "That big thing, I mean. I’m still grateful they hadn’t shot us with a missile. But from what I know as a soldier, they’re always ready."

VROOOM!

Another engine hummed nearby. Deep lines appeared between his brows, and he looked around to see if their enemies were also riding a motorbike now. After looking around to the point he was almost dizzy, he caught a beam from his left.

His heart pounded against his chest upon catching a soldier riding a motorcycle. Panic surged in his heart until he glimpsed the figure behind the soldier.

"Who in the world..." he trailed off as the passenger of the other motorcycle. "... don’t tell some of these soldiers were on her side too?"

Moose glanced in the direction Primo was staring at. He initially saw the unfamiliar face driving it, and then the woman behind him.

"No," he said, setting his attention back to the path ahead. "Not hers."

Primo mentally disagreed with Moose’s claim until he saw the pistol in Heaven’s other hand that was pressed behind the back of the soldier’s head.

"Right." He clicked his tongue. "Of course. Some soldiers would turn their backs on their comrades in the face of danger — oy, oy, oy!"

Primo tapped Moose’s shoulder in panic, seeing that the other motorcycle was getting close to the path they were taking.

"Hey!" this time, he slapped Moose’s shoulder, eyes still on Heaven and the soldier with her. "We’re going to crash — we’re — they’re going to fucking crash into us, man!"

"Shut the fuck up!" Moose yelled, gauging their speed while observing the soldier’s speed from the corner of his eyes. "Shit!"

Moose twisted the handle, picking up his pace despite the rough path. Both he and Primo bounced up and down violently while Moose was still balancing in the path. Primo continued yelling and grunting behind him; shouting as this speed was aggravating his injuries. But alas, Moose didn’t stop. Stopping now would only mean suicide.

"Shut up!" Moose shouted once more to the person behind him. "I won’t let them joke about my death — I’m not killing myself and doing them a favor!"

Primo clenched his teeth, darting his eyes between him and the approaching motorcycle from their side.

"That bitch!" he cursed, seeing that Heaven was lowering her head while the soldier driving was apparently panicking as well. "Is she planning to kill all of us!?"

VROOM!

Primo accidentally bit his tongue as their motorcycle jolted violently at the bump. He instinctively covered his mouth, still holding onto anything he could.

"Shiiii!" he cursed a long tune, shutting his eyes for the first time in the face of danger. "Fuck you, Heaven Liu!" were almost Primo’s last words if both motorcycles collided. Thankfully, even after that one loud noise, brushing past his ears, he was still able to take another breath a few seconds later.

"Hah..." Realizing he was still alive, Primo snapped his eyes open and turned his head to his left. Heaven wasn’t there anymore. Turning his head to the other side, he caught the motorcycle driving somewhere else.

"What the fuck?" Primo breathed out, almost collapsing onto Moose’s back. "I think I saw the gates of hell just now."

"Haha." Moose, who was just as relieved as him, eased his speed a little. "She’ll be the death of me, for sure."

Primo looked at the driver in front of him. "Where do you think she’s headed?" he asked. "Was scaring us even necessary?"

Moose didn’t answer immediately, already used to Heaven or rather, Hera’s antics. This wasn’t the first time she had given him a scare. She had always been like this, probably one of the reasons the majority of the Reapers had such a strong will to live.

"Where she’s going?" he repeated, casting the other motorcycle a quick look. "In the enemy’s temporary base, probably."

"Huh?"

"Since you’re already with me, the only thing that needs to be dealt with is the command center," he clarified solemnly. "Guess that chopper is no longer our concern now."

Once more, Primo found himself inundated with questions after Moose’s last comment. He recognized Heaven’s intimidating presence, her confidence supported by exceptional skill. However, he didn’t grasp the full weight of it until the pursuing chopper veered off course, followed by a deafening boom echoing through the forest as it crashed.
