Chapter 842: The one and only

Chapter 842: The one and only

The gunshots disturbed the usually tranquil forest, causing birds to flee their nests, and other animals to rush to safety in the face of danger. Meanwhile, the humans responsible for the disturbance couldn’t care less.

"Stop!" Primo yelled at the top of his lungs, his voice fading amidst the continuous echo of gunfire. He found himself stuck in a cycle of running with adrenaline surging through the ends of his nerves, hiding, and firing back. Fortunately, he hadn’t been shot since the last encounter.

VROOM!

Amidst the echoes of gunfire, heavy panting, and rustling leaves, Primo heard the sound of a motorcycle. But before he could even wonder, the noise of a helicopter caressed his ears. Looking up while still running, he caught a chopper above the canopies.

"Fuck!" he cursed, clenching his teeth, eyes focused on the path ahead. ’Of course, they have a chopper ready! They are soldiers!’

At this moment, Primo didn’t know which emotion was dominating his heart. Would he laugh at this seemingly futile attempt? Or would he curse this world and his bad luck? Either way, he didn’t stop or slow down from running wherever he was going.

BANG!

"Ugh!" A loud grunt escaped his mouth as he fell to the ground. "Damn!"

Primo looked back; he was shot in the back of his leg. Regardless of the numbing pain, the sight of a soldier forced him to pick himself up. His leg squirted blood, dampening his pants. Each limp felt like a stabbing sensation, but he didn’t stop, though he slowed down drastically.

BANG!

Primo randomly fired back, now dragging his injured leg. Looking back, he saw the soldier take cover from his shots. He stopped, turned around, and waited for the soldier to come out of hiding. The moment he glimpsed at the soldier, Primo opened fire, taking him down in one shot.

"I could’ve done that," he whispered, dropping his hand to his side, eyes on the fallen soldier. "I don’t think I can even make it to the exit."

Peeking down, he clenched his teeth upon catching sight of the blood spreading to the front of his pants. Primo huffed as he turned around, dragging his feet to a huge boulder nearby. He hid behind it, sitting down with his back against it.

He gazed at the shirt wrapped around his shoulder and then at the bag strapped across his body. Primo instinctively took off the bag, using its strap to stop the bleeding in his leg.

"Hah..." After doing his first aid, he leaned back against the boulder and sighed. "I’m done."

Primo closed his eyes as he steadied his breathing. Not that he was planning to give up. Unlike the suicidal Silas, he wanted to fight for his life until the end, even if he was fighting for the wrong cause. Especially now that the man he had been hunting down for years was back in his life, Primo had more reason to live for the time being.

"Heaven Liu..." he called under his breath, opening his eyes and gazing up. "How in the world will you save me this time?"

Right now, Primo was surrounded. Soldiers were chasing after him. Above him was a helicopter carrying more of his enemies. Then there was this motorcycle; the sound was so distinct even a child wouldn’t mistake it.

"A motorcycle... they would reach me in no time," he breathed out before his eyes cracked open ever so slowly. "A motorcycle, huh?"

His brows elevated as an idea popped up in his mind. Primo instinctively gazed down at his leg, bending it close to his body. Doing so, a striking pain went through the tip of his nerves up to his scalp.

"Hah..." another deep exhale escaped him, beads of sweat forming on his forehead. "This is nothing compared to that explosion."

Primo squeezed his thigh, talking to himself to encourage himself. Unlike this one, the surprise Joker gave him over a year ago was much worse. That injury almost took his life. Therefore, two gunshot wounds shouldn’t be a problem.

If he survived that explosion, he would survive this crisis.

With that thought in mind, Primo clenched his teeth as he pushed himself up. Panting heavily, he moved and glanced over the boulder he was hiding. He could see movements in the distance, narrowing his eyes as he caught a light beaming through the woods.

"That’s it," he whispered, keeping his attention on the motorcycle headlight. He squinted his eyes even more, hiding when he saw an enemy running in his direction.

BANG!

Primo jolted as another round of gunfire echoed in the forest. He instinctively ducked, thinking they found him and were now shooting at him. It took him a minute before he realized the bullets weren’t coming in his direction.

"What?" he whispered, brows furrowed. "What’s going on?"

Since peeking at the situation was highly dangerous, Primo listened to the noises around him. The gunfire continued to echo along with the yells of men and the revving motor.

"Get him!"

"Ugh!!"

"Man down! Man down!"

"Shoot him down!"

"Send reinforcement!! Back up in the area —"

The commotion continued for a few minutes. It was loud and chaotic. Primo covered his ears slightly due to the noise, but he still tried to get some information just by the noises. After several minutes of the shootout, the last ’bang’ faded into the echoes of the wind.

Primo held his breath as he steadied himself, trying to sense if this was another pause before another round of shootouts. But after another minute of pure silence, Primo heard the motorcycle engine once more. Every second, the motor sound came closer and closer until it stopped.

’He’s here.’ He snapped his eyes to the side, catching some light flashing at the boulder where he hid. He drew a deep breath, holding his rifle. The person outside might be another enemy. The chances of the person being an ally were too slim.

As Primo was mentally preparing himself before confronting the latter, a honk reached his ear.

"Come out!" called a man in irritation. "I know you’re not that injured. Don’t waste our time."

Deep lines appeared between Primo’s brows as he slowly dragged himself out of the boulder. The second he stood out, he shielded his eyes from the blinding light on him. He narrowed his eyes, sighing in relief when the rider turned off the headlights.

Primo assessed the man’s eyes through the open visor, almost recognizing the man. However, he wasn’t truly sure. Thus, he guessed.

"You are... Mr. M?"

Moose smirked behind his helmet. "The one and only."
