Chapter 836: S-rank mission
Chapter 836: S-rank mission
Heaven did her best to take action without assuming too much risk. She didn’t want to reveal herself because she had too much to lose. Unveiling her identity and interfering with the underground scene could endanger her innocent children.
However, playing it safe proved to be slow and ineffective. Her enemies were making significant strides toward their goal, creating a substantial gap from her efforts.
Ironic.
When she was Hera, revealing her identity was never an issue. If anything, it was a point of pride. The name Hera Cruel alone was enough to intimidate people. Her involvement often made people think twice or retreat immediately.
After bidding her children farewell and expressing her gratitude to her in-law, Heaven walked away. She glanced back once, waving at Sebastian, and then proceeded. As she reached the mansion’s portico, her steps slowed down.
Heaven set her eyes on the two people waiting for her: Princess and Gray.
"Boss." Gray perked up the moment he heard the door open. Standing in front of Heaven, he wore a solemn expression. "I’ll come with you."
"Gray," Princess called out, only to get ignored by him.
"Joker will be on the run," he explained in a hurry. "Tiger is out of reach, Bear is being under attack. Let me assist you."
Heaven studied Gray’s shaky pupils. His complexion was a little pale, making her frown a little.
"Your demeanor and look pisses me off. You’re acting as if we’re going down," she remarked coldly, placing a hand on his shoulder. "I know you’re worried, Gray, and I know things are bad. That’s why I’m going,’
"But —"
"I can’t think properly if I know my children aren’t safe," she argued even before he could say anything. She squeezed his shoulder, holding his gaze sternly. "I’m giving you and Princess a mission; protect them at all costs. This is an S-rank mission and I’m putting my entire vault in it."
She nodded at him, gripping his shoulder tighter as if she was begging him. "This is the only mission I wouldn’t accept any failures. So, instead of worrying about me, make sure my children are safe. They’re my lives, Gray. If something happened to them, consider me dead as well."
A moment of silence passed between them as they looked at each other solemnly. After some time, Heaven tapped his shoulder and retrieved her hand. She then looked at Princess.
"I’ll entrust them to you for now," she said, earning a nod from Princess. "Although I’m sure they’d be safe, I’m still saying this just in case."
"Leave them to us," Princess assured, walking closer until she stood beside Gray. "Don’t worry about them. Just go as crazy as you want."
"I’ll give you my word. They will be fine," she added.
Heaven stared at Princess quietly before a short smile appeared on her face. "Thank you."
"You don’t have to thank me. This is an S-rank mission and the reward I’d get after finishing the job is worth it," Princess humored, making Heaven laugh. She took another deep step, holding Heaven’s hand gently.
"Hera." Princess looked at Heaven’s hand, brushing it with her thumb. "Don’t be reckless and come back for them."
"Of course." Heaven nodded, smiling. "I’ll go crazy if I didn’t."
"I’m saying this just in case." The smile on Princess’s face was replaced by seriousness. "I know you’re capable and skilled enough, but just in case you need to hear it. Your children will wait for you; Sebastian, especially. So, be safe."
"Yes," Heaven whispered, smacking her lips as she huffed. "Thanks, Sissy."
Another moment of silence followed before Princess released Heaven’s hand. Heaven offered a reassuring smile, darting her eyes between Princess and Gray. Then she tapped Gray’s shoulder once more before walking past them.
As Heaven walked past them, Gray let out another deep exhale. He slowly turned on his heel, only to see Heaven jogging down the steps. "Just look at her. Her back is so small, yet, she’s still so fearless."
Princess also turned around, setting her eyes on Heaven’s back. Another deep sigh escaped her, her chest heaving.
"Gray," she called.
"Hm?"
"Let’s do our best."
Gray arched a brow, turning his head to Princess. Princess, on the other hand, kept her gaze on Heaven. Her lips were pressed in a tight slash as if mulling over something.
"If we want her to come back alive, we should do our best," she continued after a moment of silence. As Heaven got inside the driver’s seat, Princess faced Gray squarely. "If this was before, she already resolved the problem. But it stretched this long because of her children."
She paused. "That goes to show how Sebastian and Miracle affect her decision-making. If we fail this mission, it’s safe to say we’re good as dead. Not just her, but all of us — including those children, our nephew and niece."
"I know." Gray let out another deep exhale, looking away from her to the car driving past the gates. "Who would have thought that my first rank S mission would be like this? But then again, my heart keeps racing nervously."
Princess smiled as she also set her attention to the gates. "Rank S missions aren’t always as dangerous as Rank A ones. They’re categorized by importance. And this one... is the most critical S-rank mission you might ever take in your life."
Gray kept his gaze on Princess’s side profile until the latter looked back at him. The corner of his lips curled up, nodding at her.
"It doesn’t have to be a mission," he said, his expression revealing peace. "I’ll protect them for free."
"She thinks everyone is Moose, doesn’t she?" Princess humored back, shaking her head while Gray chuckled. "She’s still as silly as ever."
Their smiles slightly faded as both of them ended up staring at the gates in the distance. They breathed out deeply at the same time, not saying a word, yet, their silence was loud enough to convey their thoughts at the moment.

Meanwhile...
Heaven’s eyes glinted as she blinked, stepping on the pedal and accelerating her speed.
"Ram..." she called under her breath. "You better have a good explanation for this."
