Chapter 808: Goody goody!

"So please, Leo. You aren’t supposed to be here. Don’t put yourself in more danger. I’m already thinking of ways to get you out of here. Just stay out of trouble until then."

Leo stayed still as he processed everything she spewed, his eyes stuck to Hera throughout. The more he listened to her, his brave front slowly cracked, as the softness within them peeked out. After getting abducted from the hospital, Leo had to adapt to the unforgiving and violent environment of the underground.

Although he hadn’t witnessed any type of violence in the mansion, he had heard many absurd things around. He believed all of them because it wasn’t impossible for the people in here to take the lives of another. Therefore, he had to toughen up to survive in this place. But after hearing everything she had said, he couldn’t help but welcome them into his heart.

"I’ve always wondered why she suddenly disappeared and whether I simply misread her. I thought she used me to kill some time and boredom," he mused, looking down as he let out a short, dry laugh. "It hurt me like hell when I found out she’s already married. And what hurts me even more is that the man she married is someone I couldn’t even compare myself to. My pride, my ego, and my self-esteem hit rock bottom as it only made me believe she used me and when she saw a whale, she grabbed it."

Leo chuckled as he shook his head. "My mind was vicious, and I was angry. But it’s not only her who made a mistake. Because of my own selfishness, I listened to Paula and believed her words because they brought me comfort. It gave me hope... but the lies only hurt her. It only opened up a healing wound, which she tried to mend quietly."

"Still, it’s nice to hear what her heart felt back then." His bitter smile stretched, nodding in appreciation. "I’ve already accepted that I won’t get proper closure and get the answers she never gave. Even though it came from another, it’s comforting to know that I wasn’t the only one who was in love back then. I’m glad that at least once in our lives, she loved me just as much as I did, and I’m glad that she regained her smile even though I am not the reason anymore."

A thin layer of tears instantly coated Hera’s eyes as she tried to swallow the rising tension in her throat. Hearing his sentiments clenched her heart, tempted to tell him her feelings were still the same. But alas, she had to bite her tongue until it slightly bled to not create more confusion and trouble.

’I am not Heaven right now,’ she told herself. ’I am Hera Cruel and as Hera Cruel, it’s more impossible to entertain these feelings I have for him.’

Considering Dragon was in the picture, if the man just had a hunch she had feelings for Leo, Hera could only imagine the worst that could happen to him. At this point, she was more scared of what he could do to Leo than to her.

"I trust you, Hera," he remarked, nodding at her encouragingly. "Knowing what kind of person she was, it wouldn’t be surprising to know she’s friends with you."

"She doesn’t know what I do for a living."

"That makes more sense then." A low chuckle escaped him, shaking his head mildly. "Now, everything makes sense. Although I still can’t accept I was dragged into this situation, I understand your helplessness at that time. What you went through is already a lot. I can’t even imagine."

Leo offered a reassuring smile as he nodded at her. "I would’ve held your hand, but I’m afraid the prying eyes around will misunderstand."

"You don’t have to hold my hand. All you have to do is do what you do and stay away from trouble. Survive or like what Deborah told you, be useful."

"That’s not what I’m saying, Hera." His smile broadened. "You’re not alone here; that’s what I want to make you feel. You’re Heaven’s friend. Even though our relationship sadly didn’t even get a chance to start, she’s still a precious friend to me. Since you were her friend, you’re also my friend."

Leo rested his arm against the edge of the table, smiling. "You’re not alone in this place, Hera. Let’s get out of this place together."

Hera pressed her lips into a thin line, trying to maintain the smile she was carrying. She nodded once, letting out a short hum.

"I’ll take that as a promise, then," he said, grinning. "Once you’re out of here, things will be much better."

"Mhm." She rocked her head, but at the back of her mind, she knew that was nothing but a far-fetched dream.

There were only two ways for her to regain her freedom; one was for Dragon to die, and the other one was if she miraculously returned to her original body. Neither sounded possible at the moment.

"Do you have plans?" he asked, snapping her back from her thoughts.

"Huh?"

Leo leaned forward, checking their surroundings first, before looking back at her. The enthusiasm and hope in his eyes returned. "Plans. You mentioned Deborah moments ago, did you? I hope you were asking because you made plans with her."

"About that..." Hera trailed off as she ran her tongue across her inner cheeks. "I did make plans with her, but she’s stupid."

"What?"

"I don’t know if she was caught or not, but I’m already thinking of ways to get out." Hera smiled widely, not giving any hints about her current worries. "I’ll let you know once everything is set. For now, keep feeding Dragon information about me."

"You know what I’ve been doing?"

Hera smiled brightly, tugging her earlobe slightly. "I have keen ears. I try to listen to every conversation as much as I can."

"Oh."

"Tell him..." Hera drew a deep breath and then huffed. "Tell him I can’t stop thinking about him. Exaggerate it. Dragon is the only person in here who can save or kill us. Our priority for now is to make him happy. Got it?"

Leo blinked for a second, taken aback at the familiar tone she was using. "Uh... got it."

"Goody goody!" Her eyes squinted as she showed him a thumbs-up. "If you say so, then I know everything will be okay."

As Hera grinned from ear to ear, the smile on Leo’s face faded. For some reason, while staring at her, he couldn’t help but see Heaven’s face overlap with Hera, especially when she said and made some gestures, which was something Heaven would do in the past.
