Chapter 802: Offering the intruder food

"Tiger? What are you doing here?"

Tiger winced and silently blamed Heaven for distracting him. Before she called, Tiger had infiltrated Dane’s apartment for better results. Just following the man after he left Dominic’s side wasn’t yielding enough results.

Dane’s routine remained the same every day. He would start by picking up Dominic, accompany him through his affairs, and then drop Dominic off at his mansion. After that, Dane would go straight home. Sometimes, he would grab a bite at the nearest convenience store or spend time in a café to unwind.

His life was so mundane that Tiger almost considered it a waste of time. However, he persisted because Dane’s meticulous recurring routine seemed suspicious. Thus, he decided to trespass in Dane’s house to uncover potential secrets. But Heaven called in the middle of his mission, leading to his current situation.

"Heh," Tiger awkwardly laughed as he clapped. "Surprised!"

Dane frowned deeply. "Surprise?"

"Yep. It’s been a while since I got suspended, and, you know, I was so bored," Tiger explained playfully.

"You were bored, so you broke into someone’s place?" Dane gasped in disbelief. "Tiger, this is not okay. How did you even get in?"

"Come on, man. I didn’t break in. I knocked!"

Dane deadpanned while Tiger clicked his tongue.

"I missed my buddy, okay?" Tiger rolled his eyes in annoyance. "I just thought I should visit you, but then, you took so long to come home. So, I had to welcome myself in and wait for you inside."

"Leave now." Dane shook his head, pointing inside. "We’re not friends, and I don’t appreciate unannounced visits."

"Don’t kick me out — I’ve been waiting for you. Offer some food or a beverage, at least!"

"I’m not offering an intruder anything!"

"Oh, come on!"

Dane pressed his lips into a thin line, looking at Tiger in dismay. The latter sighed, realizing his mistake.

"Fine," Tiger conceded, throwing his hands in the air. "I’m sorry, alright? It’s wrong to come here without telling you. I should’ve informed you, even though I knew you’d avoid me once I did."

Another deep exhale escaped him as he lowered his head. After spewing his remarks, he peeked up, only to see Dane not sympathizing with him.

"Goodness. What a heartless man you are," Tiger murmured before heading towards the door. "Fine. I’ll leave now."

With that said, Tiger dragged his feet toward Dane. He slowed down as he walked past Dane, turning around to speak.

"Are you really going to make me leave?" asked Tiger. "Don’t you want to catch up?"

Dane looked back at him and coldly replied, "Leave."

"Geez!" Tiger grumbled as he kicked the air, resuming his steps to leave Dane alone.

Meanwhile, Dane remained in the same spot, watching the ’intruder’ walk away. Another deep exhale slipped past his lips, seeing that Tiger stopped once more to look back at him, as if hoping Dane would stop him from going.

"Goodness," Dane muttered in dismay. "This is giving me goosebumps."

"Have you eaten dinner?" he asked, making Tiger stop and face him enthusiastically.

"Nope!" Tiger jumped. "I’m starving!"

Dane sighed once more, feeling a little helpless. "Then stay for dinner for a while. You broke into my place, yet you make me feel bad for kicking you out." He shook his head, marched back to the apartment, and went straight to the kitchen.

Tiger, on the other hand, grinned from ear to ear. But when Dane turned his back on him, his grin faltered.

’This guy,’he thought, smiling again when Dane glanced over his shoulder. ’I didn’t even hear him come.’

Despite the idea that crossed his mind, Tiger followed Dane into the kitchen shortly. To be honest, Tiger didn’t want to stay longer. If Dane kicked him out, it wouldn’t matter. The only reason he acted the way he did was to avoid raising suspicion. Breaking into Dane’s house was already suspicious, and if Heaven’s gut feeling about the man was true, getting caught here might give Dane some hints.

It was better for them to be more cautious than they already were. Whether Dane was trustworthy or not, it wouldn’t be harmful to take extra precautions.

"Wow," Tiger was in awe as Dane placed a dish on the table, hearing his stomach start to grumble. "I didn’t know you knew how to cook. Wow, it smells so damn good."

Dane just glared at him before going back to the kitchen to get the rest. When he returned and placed everything on the table, he sat down across from Tiger. By this time, Tiger had shamelessly served himself.

"Wow. It doesn’t just look good, but it also tastes phenomenal!" Tiger praised, his mouth already full, looking at the man across from him while giving a thumbs up. "Mister Zhang, you’ve got tons of talent, huh? Up until now, I didn’t know you could cook so well. Don’t tell me you’re also the one who makes your lunchbox?"

"I live alone," Dane replied with sarcasm. "Of course, I make my own food."

"Why, though?" Tiger swallowed his food and looked at Dane curiously. "Mr. Zhang, I noticed that you rarely eat out. You always bring a lunchbox and eat alone."

"I don’t know what people put in my food or where their hands have been before it reaches me," Dane explained. "I’d rather eat something that I prepared myself; that way, I know it’s safe."

Tiger scrunched up his nose and shook his head. "You’re weird. Don’t you get tired?"

"Of?"

"Of working, then cooking for yourself, and then doing all the housework," Tiger lazily listed, moving the cutlery around. "It’s tiring doing all sorts of stuff when you have a demanding full-time job."

"I’m used to it."

"I bet you are." Tiger smiled as he resumed his meal, while Dane quietly watched him enjoy the food.

"How was she?" after minutes of silence, Dane broke the ice. He watched Tiger raise his brows and look back at him. "Miss Wei, Tiger. I heard that the two of you are on good terms, so I was wondering how everything is between the two of you."
