Chapter 800: That damn Heaven Liu surely did her research

As Primo stepped out of the car, he looked at the small cabin situated in the middle of the forest clearing. Deep lines appeared between his brows, and he turned to the driver’s seat to see Heaven over the hood.

"This is the place?" he asked, almost in disbelief. "What are you? An old person?"

"This place is safe," Heaven replied in a knowing tone. "Keep your complaints to yourself. I made an effort to find a good place for you to stay. It’s not a hotel, but there were great amenities in here!"

"Such as?"

"Such as... the fresh breeze that might clean your polluted soul!"

Primo’s already dead expression turned colder, but he could only shake his head in disbelief. He looked away from her, setting his gaze on the small cabin not far away from their vantage point.

"A primitive life, huh? Well, I guess there’s no difference," he commented, shrugging. "Are we just going to stand here?"

"Of course not." Heaven grinned as she tipped her head in the cabin’s direction. "Let’s go?"

Primo simply nodded as he dragged his feet, following Heaven several steps behind. As he did so, he looked around the surroundings. There was a lot of space surrounding the cabin, but then, everything was trees. It brought him this indescribable feeling in his heart.

Ever since becoming No One, the alias he had known of before he assumed Primo’s identity, he never lived a quiet life. Probably, for a moment, but it had always been chaos. Not that he was surprised about it. After all, the identities he stole led a chaotic life.

"Welcome."

Primo’s thoughts halted at Heaven’s announcement, making him look ahead. There, Heaven stood in front of the door, holding it open, head turned to him. The side of her lips curled up until her teeth were on full display.

"To your new abode," she said. "Come in. I’ll show you around."

"As if there’s anything for you to show me," he remarked with disinterest, yet he still followed her inside the cabin.

The interior of the cabin was just as he expected. It was cramped and dirty, with thick cobwebs in every corner, old pieces of furniture, and clear repairs that needed to be fixed as soon as possible. He only glanced around it once; one glance was enough for him to have a tour. The place was that small.

"I’m not staying here," he said as his eyes landed on her. "There’s nothing in here that will trigger some spark of inspiration in my mind. I can’t kill Dragon if I live this kind of life."

"Are you saying you prefer to stay at a hotel?"

"Not just any hotel, but at least with a five-star rating."

Heaven just flashed him a smile before she looked around, clapping. "This will be your new home. It needs some cleaning and repairs, but I can assure you it’s a great place to stay once you fix everything."

"Nope." Primo shook his head, but Heaven didn’t care about his refusal.

"This is the living area. There’s the fireplace over there. That door leads to a room and that other one was originally a study room." Heaven started pointing things out as she spoke. "There’s the kitchen. It has a back door that leads to the backyard, where you can chop some wood. The forest can be a little cold in the night, so the fireplace will be useful."

"Did you hear what I said?" Primo looked at her emotionlessly, waiting for her to look back at him before he continued, "I said I’m not staying in this kind of place. Didn’t you say you’re in a hurry? If so, you should know that repairing and cleaning this place is time-consuming. Not to mention, chopping wood and doing all sorts of things."

"I bought some cutleries and new bedsheets. The plates and cutleries are in the kitchen, the second drawer from the right. The bedsheets were on top of the bed. I didn’t unpack them since the bed is still dirty," Heaven replied with a smile, continuing what she was saying as if she wasn’t hearing his complaints. "There’s electricity here, so you don’t need to worry about the lights. About the water, there’s a well in the backyard. If you want a fresher one, there’s a lake just two hundred meters away from here."

Primo ran his tongue across his inner cheek, eyes fixed on her gaze. Hearing that she wasn’t stopping only meant she was adamant about letting him stay in this unknown place all by himself. Not that the idea scared him, but just thinking about all the work he should do was already exhausting.

"I’ve also left a laptop in the study and some files you need to study," Heaven spoke again after a brief silence. "If you have more questions about your lodging or anything else, feel free to ask."

Primo didn’t answer and just looked at her blankly.

"If there’s no question, then I’ll be back in two days. You got two days to study everything." Her smile stretched as she clapped. "Make yourself comfortable until then."

Heaven kept eye contact with him for a few moments before she clapped once again. She turned on her heel, walking away to give him some private time. As she did so, Primo closed his eyes for a moment and looked back at her.

"In two days, are you going to take me somewhere else?" he asked, making her stop in her tracks.

Heaven looked back at him and smiled. "I’m not sure yet. Who knows? You might want to stay here after just a day of being in this small cabin."

With that being said, Heaven resumed her steps and marched away at her own pace. Primo watched her retreating figure, standing by the entrance even when she hitched inside the driver’s seat. She honked at him once as a greeting before she made a turn, driving away, leaving him all alone.

"Look at her, not even stalling time," he mumbled, staring at the car’s bumper. "She didn’t mention if there’s food in the fridge. Or if I should start preparing an improvised hunting tool."

As Primo watched her car go farther, he shook his head. After a while, he turned around and faced his new home.

"Who wants to stay in this place all alone?" he grumbled, dropping his small bag by the door as he marched in. Primo looked down and slid his foot on the wooden floor, checking his sole as some dusk stuck to it.

"Goodness," he muttered. "Even if I sweep this place a hundred times, it’s still not enough to clean the molds in it."

Primo clicked his tongue as he dropped his foot, marching toward the kitchen. When he stood in the fridge, he unhesitatingly checked if there was some food in it. Much to his relief, Heaven was kind enough to buy him sufficient groceries for a few days. There were even six cans of beer, which was probably the most considerate she had done.

Primo immediately took out the can of beer, opened it, and tossed the small ring to the side. He gulped down two mouthfuls before he hissed in satisfaction.

"That hits the spot," he muttered, snapping his eyes at the old and crumbling cabin. His eyes scanned the place once more, and shaking his head, in disbelief he got out of prison only to stay in the middle of nowhere. "Meeting and entertaining Silas is the most idiotic thing I’ve done in this life. That guy is a succubus. He drained all my luck in life — damn him."

A deep sigh escaped him, thinking that this place was not any better than the prison. The only difference was that instead of smelling walls and metals, he was now smelling rotting wood. What a life!

"Two days..." he whispered, narrowing his eyes, standing still in his spot. "... I’m not fixing this place, as it wasn’t my own."

Primo turned around to enjoy his beer, trudging toward the backdoor to enjoy some fresh air. As he reached for the doorknob, he realized the knob was stuck.

"Fuck," he breathed out, rattling the door and making its hinges rattle as if they would come loose if he added more force. Fortunately, it opened after spending an entire minute trying. He clicked his tongue and glared at the door before he stepped out of the spacious backyard.

The backyard was nothing special aside from the ax on the wood board and a well. Primo didn’t pay attention to it as he walked several steps away from the cabin. After he reached a spot where he couldn’t smell the scent of the place, he closed his eyes and took a deep breath. He kept his eyes closed for quite some time, feeling the breeze blow past his face and cool his temperature down. When his body adjusted to the natural temperature in this place, he turned around to enjoy the remaining beer.

However, Primo suddenly stopped as he assessed the cabin one more time. His lips were drawn into a thin line, assessing the place, and clicking his tongue.

"That damn Heaven Liu surely did her research," he grumbled, cursing Heaven in his heart. "I can’t sleep in such a dirty place."

As the last syllables rolled out of his tongue, Primo chugged down the beer and crumpled the empty can before tossing it to the side. He stretched his limbs and neck before storming back in to clean up the place.
