Chapter 764: Be useful
Chapter 764: Be useful
The bungalow was quite spacious, lighted up dimly. There was just enough furniture to give a little bit of life to the guest house. Hera tiptoed her way in, inviting herself to the guest house. She checked a few rooms quietly, only to see they were empty. It was like sleeping quarters with common areas to do its purpose, and probably even more.
"I don’t understand," she murmured as she closed one of the rooms, eyes around the living area. "Why do they have to take turns?"
Hera thought about it on her way in here. It wasn’t like she was suspicious of what her husband’s bodyguards were doing. She just found it weird.
"It’s getting late," she whispered, catching the wall clock on the other corner. "Frank will come home soon."
Another deep exhale slipped past her lips as she took a few steps away from her spot. She headed to the entrance where she went in. But before she could reach it, she stopped. She turned her head and her eyes fell on the door near the dining.
"What is that?" she wondered, eyes squinting. "A stockroom?"
Hera just checked a few rooms, leading her to bedrooms or bathroom. Not that she was looking for something to check everything. She was just curious, that was all. She kept her eyes on the door near the dining as she hummed.
"Just one more," she told herself before she marched toward the door.

Meanwhile...
Leo lay flat on his back with his eyes stuck on the ceiling. This room was different from the room he woke up in the first time he came to this place. It was much smaller but equally depressing and suffocating.
’No one showed up after that woman,’he thought, thinking about Dragon and Deborah, who visited him on his first day. ’And it’s oddly quiet outside now.’
Leo closed his eyes ever so slowly as he breathed out heavily. When he reopened them, his lips parted as the lingering life in his eyes dissipated.
"I was hoping this was nothing but a dream — a terrible one," he whispered, feeling his heart sink deeper. "Just how can I get out of here?"
According to the woman who visited him a few nights ago, his chances of leaving this place were little to none. He didn’t want to believe her at first, but the longer he stayed in this place, the more he realized that the woman was telling the truth. His chances of getting out of here were close to non-existent.
The past several days and nights were the same for him. People would come and go in his room, administering drugs to keep him paralyzed on the bed. At first, he was fighting back, but after he was threatened, he just let things happen. After they administered the drug into his system, Leo would lay on the bed all day and night. He would constantly hear voices outside the door. Sometimes, he would listen to the people’s conversations but sadly, nothing was useful in their conversations. They were either talking about gambling, drinking, or women.
[Be useful.] These were the woman with brunette hair told him.
Leo let out another deep exhale as he thought of Deborah’s advice. "How can I be useful to them?" For sure, money was not what these people wanted. If so, they could’ve settled it immediately. Leo had a lot of it. But it seemed this organization also had enough.
"I can’t think of any..." he whispered as he closed his eyes once again. "If only they can tell me to do something."
As he was thinking of things to be useful, Leo suddenly heard a loud and slow creak. He opened his eyes again, brows knitted, turning his head to the door ever so slowly. There, standing by the door, was a woman in a long dress, eyes wide.
"Who..." Leo squinted his eyes, curious. "... are you?"
The woman blinked and then furrowed her brows. "Who are you?"
When she spoke, Leo immediately felt like her voice sounded familiar. In a snap of a finger, his pupils slowly dilated as he held his breath.
’That’s her,’he told himself. ’She’s the one who called me — the reason I am here.’
Leo clenched his teeth as he mentally balled his hands. Aside from blinking and turning his head, he couldn’t move his entire body from the neck down. Even so, his heart thudded against his chest, having this sense of fury at the sight of the person to blame for his misfortune.
"Are you a guest here?" Hera inquired with genuine wonder in her voice. She looked around the room, finding it a little too dark since it was too early for bedtime. When she set her eyes back to the man on the bed, she moved to the jamb and pressed her lips into a thin line.
"Are you going to sleep now?" she asked once again. "I’m sorry for bothering you. I didn’t know there was a guest here."
Leo furrowed his brows, finding her obliviousness strange. But then, he remembered Dragon’s words when he spoke about his wife. Dragon said his wife was a vegetable for years, and thus, this reaction from her seemed to be natural.
"I’m sorry for bothering you again," she whispered as she lowered her head, reaching for the door to close it. But before she could close it, Leo spoke in panic.
"You!" he called with wide eyes, watching her open the door wider once again. "How are you... Hera?"
Hera blinked. "You know me?"
"Of course!" Leo forced a big smile. "You’re his wife. How can I not know my friend’s wife?"
"You’re... Frank’s friend?" Her brows rose, a little curious since this was the first time a person introduced themselves as Dragon’s friend.
"Yes. I’m his friend."
Hera rocked her head in understanding, studying his face and then his unmoving body. "Are you okay?" she asked as she set her eyes back to him.
"Me? Yes. I mean, a bit." Leo sported a subtle and friendly smile. "Hera, I’m so glad to see you again."
Hera tilted her head a little to the side while Leo maintained a relieved smile. She didn’t know him, and that was the same for him. Leo didn’t know a single thing about this woman, aside from the things Dragon mentioned during his visit. However, what Leo knew was that this was an opportunity he had been looking for.
’This might not be as conventional as I wished, but...’ he thought as he calmed himself down. ’It’s her fault I’m in this situation. Therefore, I should use her for my survival. That is just fair.’
