Chapter 762: Don’t eat alone

The corners of Ivy’s mouth curled upward as she ceased jotting down notes. Her eyes sparkled slightly as she pushed herself away from the desk, leaning comfortably into the office chair. Glancing around her workspace, she licked her lips, restraining a smile for no apparent reason.

"I wonder what he’s doing," she mused. "I shouldn’t have let him distract me while I’m at work."

Normally, Ivy maintained an unwavering focus on her tasks, but today was different. She found herself pausing intermittently, blaming a certain man for her distractions.

"Doesn’t he ever get tired?" she murmured, a short laugh escaping her lips. "He’s been running in my head since I woke up."

Her entire weekend was spent with Tiger. Beyond their passionate moments, they shared meals and watched a movie, ultimately leading to more intimate activities. When he left this morning, she was still asleep, finding a note from him that read, "I’m sure I can’t go if I leave when you’re awake, so I’m going now. Call me when you get the time."

Although it wasn’t pleasant for him to leave while she slept, she understood the sentiment. After two days together, she already felt a longing to spend more time with him.

"Ivy, get your act together," she muttered, shaking her head. "You’ve got a business to run, and even if he’s suspended, he has other things to do."

Glancing at her desk’s phone, she hesitated, the message he left playing in her mind. Despite the weekend’s events, Ivy harbored a sense of reservation. She didn’t want to appear clingy or disrupt his day, assuming he was busy.

"Focus, Ivy," she huffed, shaking her head again. "Focus."

As she pulled herself back to work, a knock on the door interrupted her concentration. Lifting her eyes, she saw her assistant approaching.

"What is it?" Ivy asked when her assistant stood a few steps from the desk.

"Miss Wei, there’s a delivery for you at the reception."

"Huh?" Ivy furrowed her brows. "Who is it from? And why aren’t you bringing it here?"

"You asked me not to bring gifts to your office."

Remembering the request she made due to persistent suitors, Ivy smiled. "Who is it from?"

"It says... Tiger, Miss Wei."

Ivy’s eyes twinkled with excitement. "He sent me something?"

"Uhmm... yes."

"Then bring it here." Ivy bit her lips to stifle a grin, but sensing a conflict in her assistant’s eyes, she raised her brows. "What’s wrong?"

"Miss Wei, I’m afraid we can’t bring the gift here."

"And why is that?"

Unable to explain, her assistant urged Ivy to see the gift for herself. They descended to the lobby, where Ivy’s assistant led her to the entrance.

Ivy’s mouth fell open as she stood just inside the entrance, eyes fixed on a food truck parked outside. Shifting her gaze to the tarpaulin, a tacky tiger caricature with sunglasses against an ivy flower backdrop caught her eye. It looked cheap, yet her eyes softened, and a giggle escaped her lips.

"Miss Wei," her assistant called, earning a hum from Ivy, who continued to gaze at the food truck. "There’s a note the reception handed to me."

Ivy turned to her assistant, eyes on the small envelope. Opening it, she found a card note inside.

[There are many good people around you. Don’t eat alone.]

The note was shorter than expected, but Ivy bit her inner lip as tears welled up in her eyes. Her eyes softened with appreciation, and before she knew it, a drop of tear landed on her thumb.

’That man...’ Ivy thought, recalling their weekend conversations. She had mentioned how she used to eat alone as a child and into adulthood, and it felt pleasant that he remembered.

"Miss Wei?" her assistant furrowed her brows, worried. "Are you alright?"

"Mhm," Ivy hummed, forcing a smile and wiping her eyes. Facing her assistant, she said, "Tell everyone they can enjoy the food truck. Also, bring me some in my office..."

She trailed off, eyes back on the truck. Spotting folded chairs and tables, her heart melted at Tiger’s thoughtful gesture.

"Never mind," she said quietly, smiling ear to ear. "Let’s eat here. I don’t feel like eating alone today."

[Short Flashback]

"Young Miss."

The youthful Ivy raised her head at the gentle call. Her beloved nanny stood beside her chair, offering a warm smile.

"Why don’t you have an appetizer first?" the nanny suggested kindly. "You might end up with a stomachache if you don’t eat at least a little."

"Nana, what time is it?" Ivy blinked, her soft voice breaking the gentle smile on her nanny’s face. "They won’t come, will they?"

For an hour, Ivy had been seated alone in the dining area, anticipating her parents’ promised dinner together. However, there was still no sign of them.

"Young Miss." Her nanny slowly pulled a chair beside her and took a seat. "I heard something happened in the company that Madam and the Master had to settle immediately."

Reaching for Ivy’s hand, she gently patted the back of it. "I’m sure they didn’t mean to be late."

"They’re not late. They won’t come. Nana, do you think the company is more important than me?"

"No, Young Miss. That’s not true," her nanny shook her head. "You are the most important of all. It’s just that the Madam and the Master have to work hard to ensure the young miss has a better future."

Ivy pressed her lips into a thin line while her nanny continued to smile.

"Let me join you, okay?" Her nanny suggested, earning a quiet hum from young Ivy.

At this moment, Ivy wished to believe in her nanny’s words. However, deep in her heart, she knew her nanny was concealing the truth. This wasn’t the first time she had dined alone, and waiting for hours to share a meal with her parents wasn’t a new experience.

This didn’t change even after years. Growing up, Ivy often ate alone to the extent that she forgot the true essence of sharing meals with others.
