Chapter 761: Life’s short

[Zhu Couple’s Matrimonial Home]

"Don’t touch me, man!" Tiger hissed, drawing his head away from Gray. Irritation flickered across his naturally thin, lazy eyes, while Gray furrowed his brows.

"The hell is your problem?" Gray returned with a tinge of annoyance. "I’m just saying you have something in your hair."

"I know, but don’t touch it!" Tiger clicked his tongue, focusing on the hand mirror in his hands to fix his hair. "Do you have any idea how long it took me to style it? It took so damn long, I don’t feel like washing my hair for weeks."

Gray scrunched up his face as he watched Tiger scoot over to the other side of the couch. They were idling in the family room since there was nothing else to do in the manor. Sebastian had already left for school with Dominic, Bear, and Princess. Axel and Heaven had gone to the company for work. Since Tiger was suspended from accompanying Dominic to focus on his own matters, he was left behind with Gray to look after the residence.

However, since Tiger joined Gray in the family room, he had been obsessively checking himself in the mirror. If Gray had a say in it, he would ask Tiger to fix his attitude, since that was what Tiger needed to work on the most.

"What’s up with you?" asked Gray out of curiosity. "You were never conscious about your appearance. What changed?"

Tiger arched a brow as he glanced at Gray. "I just want to look nice."

"And why’s that?"

"Am I not allowed to?" He shook his head, returning his attention to the hand mirror to inspect his shaved beard. "I want to look nice. Do I need an extensive explanation for that?"

"You don’t, but considering who you are, yes," Gray nodded. "Frankly, this is weird, and it’s a little unsettling."

Tiger paused as his expression changed. He slowly turned his head in Gray’s direction, who was sitting leisurely on the other end of the same couch.

"Tell me, is there something wrong?" Gray inquired solemnly. "Are you dying?"

"It’s a woman."

Before Tiger could respond to Gray’s assumptions, Fig’s voice caressed their ears. Tiger and Gray turned their heads, landing their eyes on the one-seated couch where Fig sat. Gray’s brows furrowed as he squinted his eyes slightly.

"Since when have you been there?" Gray asked, realizing he hadn’t noticed Fig’s presence until now.

"I’ve been here all along."

"If there’s anyone who has problems, that would be you," Tiger pointed at Gray, earning the latter’s attention. "How can you not notice that guy with that size of his?"

"I was watching the news and you!"

"I think our brother is in love." Fig blinked, eyes on Tiger. "Who is it? Miss Wei?"

"What? Are you crazy?" Gray’s face crumpled in dismay as he looked at Fig with displeasure, then back at Tiger. "You’re dating someone?"

"What’s with that look on your face?" Tiger frowned deeply, not pleased at the reaction he got from his colleague. "I am the best—the king of the jungle, a master of this game. I’m a catch! Therefore, it’s no surprise if women fight each other to get my attention!"

"Aren’t you having goosebumps over every nonsense that you spewed?" Gray returned with a gasp. "If there’s anyone who wants to fight each other for you, that would be all the felons I know, and because of that money on your head."

Tiger squinted his eyes at Gray, running his tongue across his inner cheek. "You’re sad, aren’t you?"

"What?"

"Well, that makes sense. You’re already at that age, and yet, you look like you just came to this world yesterday. Of course, no one will take you seriously." Tiger shook his head while clicking his tongue. "It’s okay. That’s not something you should be ashamed of. Just think that others would spend thousands of money just to look young again, but you have it for free."

Gray’s lips parted, scoffing, rendered speechless by this verbal assault on his face. He looked in Fig’s direction, only to see the latter shrugging.

"You started it," Fig remarked nonchalantly, surprisingly not eating his snacks when it was already his snack time.

"I didn’t start it," Gray denied, looking away to glance at Tiger. "I’m just asking a question and was concerned. But this guy acted as if his hair was his freaking treasure!"

"You’re concerned over nonsense, Gray," Fig said, staring at Tiger. "You should pause your relationship with Miss Wei. Not because you put a protection order for yourself doesn’t mean you can stop those who want your head for personal reasons."

"Wait, are you seriously dating Miss Wei? Ivy Wei?" Gray arched a brow, darting his eyes between Fig and Tiger. When his eyes settled on Tiger, the corner of his lips curved down as deep lines resurfaced on his forehead. "Boss will not be very happy if she hears about this."

"We’re not dating..." Tiger emphasized, looking at Gray dead in the eye. "I told her I can’t date right now because people want to kill me and she’s not ready for marriage."

"You mean a committed relationship?"

"Yes, a committed relationship — marriage." Tiger nodded. "We’re getting married immediately. There’s no way I’d let a good catch like her slip away. We’re getting married once the Tiger successfully bit the Dragon’s heads off."

He smacked his lips as he hopped up from the couch, facing Gray and Fig. "My attire..." he said, motioning his hand to his clothes. "It’s nice, isn’t it?"

"It is. You look expensive." Fig nodded genuinely, making Tiger smile in satisfaction. "Are you leaving?"

"There’s you and Gray in this house. Miri is already old enough to fight her way out if something terrible happens." Tiger waved dismissively as he turned on his heel. "If I didn’t go home, tell my sister her brother is out in a war."

Tiger waved once more without looking back at the two. Meanwhile, Gray and Fig could only stare at the man’s back with conflicting emotions.

"Miracle is just a few months old..." Gray muttered. "How can she fight her way out if she can’t even walk on her own?"

He turned to Fig, and the latter shrugged again.

"Just let him be, for now, Gray." Fig shifted his gaze to the door where Tiger left. The corner of his mouth slowly curled up. "Tiger is smart enough to know when to stop. Let them be happy for now and experience what’s like to truly live a life. After all..."

He trailed off as he narrowed his eyes. "... life is short, but our lives have always been shorter than everybody else."
