Chapter 743: forgiven
Chapter 743: forgiven
"Happy now?"
Deborah let out a deep exhale, looking at Hera from the edge of the bed. Hera raised the small hand mirror to look at herself, smiling in satisfaction at the colors on her face. When Hera looked away from the mirror, the corner of her lips stretched from ear to ear.
"Thank you, Deb," Hera expressed, glancing at herself in the mirror. "I feel more confident now to have dinner with my husband."
"You don’t have to do anything to impress him, Hera," Deborah blurted out, biting her tongue discreetly.
Hera smiled radiantly as she took that as a compliment. She set her attention to the hand mirror, admiring her beautiful face.
"I know Frank loves me from the bottom of his heart. He wouldn’t take care of me for many years and wait for me even though there’s a high chance I will not wake up," she said, unaware of the immediate response from Deborah’s head.
’If only you know...’Deborah thought as she mentally shook her head. ’I don’t think you will ever say that with confidence.’
"The least I can do is to look decent for him." Hera snapped her eyes back to Deborah. "It’s a simple gesture, but until I fully recover, I want to look pleasing in the eye."
’If... you fully recover, which I doubt,’was what Deborah wanted to tell her, but bit her tongue to stop herself. She forced a short smile and nodded. "I’m sure you will regain your strength soon."
"Thank you, Deb." Hera’s cheek turned pinkish, giggling in satisfaction as she looked at her face again. Her cheeks were still hollowed and her complexion was still just as white as a sheet. But with the light lipstick and blush, she had more colors now and didn’t look as dead as she looked before.
"In the pictures that Frank showed me... I really look pretty," she whispered, smiling. "Can you cut my hair next time?"
"I don’t know how to style people’s hair." Deborah shrugged. "But I can try. Though I’m telling you. Frank likes your long hair."
"But it tangles so easily," Hera humored before hearing a knock on the door. Her brows rose and even though she hadn’t seen the person outside the door, her lips stretched wider as if she already knew it was her husband.
When the door slowly opened, her phoenix eyes glittered at the sight of Dragon. Her already grinning lips stretch from ear to ear, almost jumping from the bed with excitement. Meanwhile, Deborah mentally shook her head at Hera’s reaction before she rose from the edge of the bed.
"I dolled her up a bit," said Deborah as Dragon approached. "She kept whining about her appearance. I hope you don’t mind."
"As long as you didn’t use poison on her face," Dragon humored as he sat down on the edge of the bed. "Hello there, sweetheart."
He reached for Hera’s face and caressed her cheeks with his thumb. "You look a little more excited than usual."
"Frank, how come you didn’t tell me I look like a zombie?" Hera pouted. "While taking a bath, I saw my reflection, and I almost ran away from the sight of me. Is that the reason there are no mirrors in here?"
"No, of course not." Dragon smiled gently. "I didn’t put any mirrors because you might break them and harm yourself."
"Why would I harm myself?"
He maintained a smile and shrugged. "When you first woke up, you were quite aggressive."
"I don’t remember."
"Which is much better," he replied. "Anyway, you look pretty."
"Thanks." Hera giggled, casting Deborah a knowing look.
Deborah’s brows rose a bit. ’Does that mean thank you?’ she wondered.
"Ready for our dinner?" Dragon asked, ignoring Deborah’s reaction and Hera’s hyped attitude. He slipped his hand inside his suit, taking out a blindfold.
Hera’s brows knitted as she asked. "What’s that for?"
"I thought of a surprise for you," he said, grinning. "Wear them until I take them off."
"But I’m... scared."
"Do you trust me?" he asked, and there was a moment of hesitation in her eyes.
"I don’t like surprises, Frank," she whispered, biting her inner bottom lips. "But I do trust you."
"Don’t worry. This will not hurt." Dragon offered his hand for her to grasp, assisting her to the wheelchair near the bed. When Hera sat down, Dragon stood behind the wheelchair as he placed the blindfold to cover her eyes.
"I can’t take them off?" Hera asked as she touched the fabric on her eyes.
"Mhm." Dragon maintained a smile as he secured the blindfold gently. When he was done, he turned his head in Deborah’s direction.
Deborah still stood motionless in the same spot. She had her eyes on the two of them, but the look of ridicule flickering across her eyes was clear.
"Follow me," said Dragon as he started wheeling Hera out of the bedroom. Deborah didn’t say anything but followed quietly.
The moment they crossed the threshold, Dragon bent down to whisper in Hera’s ears. "I’ll just have a word with Deborah. I will follow you in a bit." He didn’t wait for Hera to reply as he cast a bodyguard on standby, a look.
The bodyguard nodded in understanding, marching to wheel Hera to Dragon’s surprise. As he walked away, Dragon straightened his back and kept his eyes on them.
"Taking her to get checked again?" Standing three steps behind Dragon stood Deborah, eyes on his back. "Just how long are you going to torment her like this?"
"You judge too quickly, Deborah." Dragon chuckled as he looked back at the woman. "I truly have a surprise for her and she’d be very happy once she finds out."
"Is that so?" She arched a brow, watching him look away slowly. "What do you want from me now? If you already know I am the person behind her condition, then why are you keeping me alive?"
"Why would I kill you for trying to kill her? You’re not the first one who tried that." Dragon smirked. "When I heard that you retrieved that woman’s bones in Hera’s resting place, I immediately knew you’re the one who did this to Hera. Of course, it angers me at first. But after careful consideration, I should thank you for it."
"Huh?"
"If she woke up that time, it’ll be very troublesome for me," he casually explained. "After all, even if I successfully erased her memories that time, it’ll be hard to move forward while everyone still has control and power in this game."
In other words, Dragon wouldn’t be able to bargain with Hera’s former men so easily. In a way, years of Hera being in a comatose proved to favor Dragon. After all, he didn’t think he would have enough leisure time if Hera didn’t fall into a long comatose.
"Moreover, it’s fun to show you that no matter what you do or what you did, I’m still winning." His smirk widened while a glint of ridicule flickered in his eyes. "And that woman you loved so dearly is dead. I want you to be there when you realize all your attempts to sabotage me are futile, Deb. I’m enjoying it quite a bit."
Deborah balled her hands into a tight fist as her jaw tightened.
"I forgive you back then. You can make up for that ’mistake,’ by looking after her. However, if you harm her again, rest assured you’ll loathe your parents for bringing you into this world and, in this lifetime, where I am in it."
