Chapter 735: Why’s the sudden interest?

[Zhu Couple’s Matrimonial Home]

Heaven smiled as she glanced at her side. Her eyes landed on Sebastian, who had fallen asleep after she sang him a lullaby. Her eyes softened, reaching for the blanket to cover his body securely. She spent the entire day with her family, mostly with Sebastian, because she felt like she hadn’t given him enough attention.

"I feel guilty," she thought with a shallow sigh, arching a brow, when she heard a faint knock on the door.

Heaven turned her head a little, only to see Dominic leaning against the doorframe. He had his arms folded under his chest, eyes on her, with a smile on his face.

"I just came to check if he fell asleep," Dominic remarked quietly. "I was a little worried he’d ask you to sleep with him again."

"Shh." She looked away from him and set her pair of affectionate eyes on her son. "I felt like we’ve been too busy, and we’re neglecting our children."

"We’re doing our best."

"I know." Another shallow sigh escaped her lips. "Even so, I can’t help it. I’m lucky Basti understands, and Gray keeps him company. But... as a mother, I still feel guilty. I’ve always wondered what sort of career I want to pursue in this life, but now, I’m starting to realize that being a housewife and a full-time mom is a career."

She looked back at Dominic, smiling bitterly at him. "Give me five minutes, Dom. I want to stay with him longer."

"It’s still Sunday tomorrow, so you have another day just to spend with him and Miracle," he reminded her with a subtle smile. "But anyway, I’ll be in Miracle’s room. Miriam changed her into her pajamas. She’s probably done by now."

"Mhm."

Dominic lingered by the door as he watched his wife lay beside Sebastian to hug him. His lips curled up, and he walked away to give his wife time to express her guilt about not giving their children enough attention. Meanwhile, Heaven pulled Sebastian into her embrace, showering the top of his head with soft kisses.

"I’m back," Heaven announced the moment she entered the master’s bedroom. She immediately searched for Dominic, only to see him standing in front of the stand where his whiskey and glass were placed. He was already in his robe, and his hair was let down, still a little wet as if he had just finished his shower.

"Drinking again?" she teased. "I don’t think Miracle is that stressful to take care of."

Dominic smiled as he looked back, holding the decanter of whiskey and its lid with the other. "Just a glass."

"I’m just joking." She chuckled as she sauntered toward the small round table. When she sat down, she tapped the table lightly. "Bring it here. I think I also need a glass."

"As you wish." Dominic nodded, carrying the decanter and two glasses with his other hand. He perched on the seat across from her, placing the bottle and glasses on the table. "Want me to pour you?"

"Yes, please."

Dominic chuckled as he delicately poured whiskey into the empty glass. "Did you cry?"

"Why would I cry?" Heaven arched a brow, only to see him glance at her teasingly.

"I thought you were going to cry in Basti’s room," he teased. "But I guess I was overthinking things."

"I feel bad, but in the end, I can’t stop. My name is probably not on Dragon’s hit list yet, but I don’t want to wait for him to write my name in red ink," she said. She shrugged as she stretched her hand to the glass he slid toward her. "Thanks."

"You’re welcome." He nodded, pouring himself a glass of whiskey. When he picked up the glass, he glanced at her. Heaven had already downed a mouthful, making him chuckle.

"I have a question." Dominic leaned back while she hissed, forcing herself to look at him. "Aside from you, Hera, can you list the names of the people your enemies want dead?"

"You mean the people they want to drop dead just as much as their desire to kill me?" she clarified, and he nodded. "Why are you asking?"

"Just... curious." Dominic shrugged. "I want to understand the mentality of those in the underground."

"Darling, before I answer your question, I’ll give you a helpful piece of advice," Hera said. She lifted her foot and rested her leg over the other, leaning forward with her arms crossed on her lap. She held the glass of whiskey to her side, holding it with just her thumb and middle finger.

"Don’t try to understand the people in the underground, my love," she emphasized, raising her brows. "People in the underground only have a few drives: ambition, money, and survival. That doesn’t matter, though. Because at the end of the day, our hands are sullied, and no amount of a sob story can justify our crimes."

"Does that include you?"

"Especially me," she stressed. "Dom, my love, don’t try to justify my actions in the past or see Hera in a different light. That woman is crazy, and I’m not a good person. I can do worse and won’t lose a wink of sleep."

"I see." He nodded in understanding. "Though that’s not the reason I asked such a question and why I had such an interest. I didn’t plan on justifying your crimes. Unfortunately, I’m biased. So even before you tell me anything, my mind already thought of a more logical and humane reason behind your actions."

The corner of her mouth curled up as she chortled. "Goodness. You’re a lost cause, are you?"

"I won’t deny that." Dominic shrugged. "Now, can you give me the list of people who were a threat to your enemies?"

"Hmm. Let’s see." Heaven leaned back as she hummed. "I am always the main goal because I am the best. But to be honest, I’m not always on people’s top lists."

She snapped her eyes back to him. "I remember a few formidable enemies in the past. All of them didn’t target me first. They went for Ram and Wolf first, and then Joker and a few people I deployed around the world. Can you guess why?"

"Because they’re trying to incapacitate you by breaking off your limbs?"

"Yes. Not to brag, but for them, I am like a giant. They can’t come straight for my head, but rather, they will try to cut my toes one by one and then come after my limbs," she explained. "I’m pretty sure you get the idea."

"I do."

"Time for me to ask." Heaven tilted her head to the side. "Why’s the sudden interest?"

Dominic blinked ever so slowly as he gazed up at her. "I think Ram is in danger."
