Chapter 728: The Reapers will bury her for us.

"You are insane," a brunette woman folded her arms under her chest, staring at the woman through the transparent glass. Doctors surrounded Hera with wires attached to her head, conducting whatever experiment they had at Dragon’s behest.

"She’s talking about regaining her memories," Dragon explained without taking his eyes off Hera, who lay on the bed. "I’m just making sure her brainwaves are working perfectly fine."

The brunette cast him a plain look. "You’re handsome and have a lot of money. It’s a shame you’re insane."

"Hah," he let out a short laugh as he slowly looked at the woman. "I needed reassurance, Deb. You know her. She’ll kill all of us if it turns out she’s simply acting."

"She doesn’t need to act. She’ll kill you." The woman he called Deb corrected. She looked away and her eyes fell on the monitors near Hera’s bed. "So, are you trying to erase her memories again?"

"It’s in the plan," he said. "But they’re still checking her brainwaves."

"Poor Hera Cruel," she muttered. "The once untouchable queen ended up as a sick bastard’s toy to play with."

"Don’t make it sound that bad," he replied.

The woman’s eyes narrowed a little as her expression turned solemn. "She’ll die if you keep injecting all sorts of drugs into her system."

"She’s Hera. She won’t die."

"Hera is not immortal, Dragon." The woman slowly faced Dragon with her eyes flickering. "It’s already amazing she is still alive despite all the drugs you’ve been feeding her all these years. But her body is at its limits, Dragon. If you truly want to keep her alive, then you should stop treating her like an animal."

"Haha," Dragon let out a series of low chuckles before he cocked his head back. His eyes slid to the woman. "Deborah, do you think it matters to me if she’s alive or dead?"

"What?" Deb furrowed her brows, confused. "Then why did you fake her death and revive her to life?"

"It’s fun," he shrugged, looking away from her, and his attention was back to Hera. "Seeing her act like a fool and know nothing... it’s amusing to watch someone like her who used to have everything under control fall from her grace."

The corner of his lips stretched from ear to ear as he laughed out loud. "She’s stupid! It’s amazing how she acts so stupid, don’t you think?"

"You’re crazy," Deb shook her head, unable to deny the dread that was creeping up her spine. "No wonder she never liked you back."

"She did like me before," he argued indifferently. "It’s just that we’re in a different place in our relationship."

Deb opened her mouth, but she closed her lips. She shook her head mildly once again, knowing it was pointless to argue with a man like him. She slowly set her attention ahead, staring at the situation through the transparent glass.

"Dragon," she whispered after some time of silence. "You are never a match for her if she’s still in her prime. I advise you to kill her before she remembers anything. You don’t want her to remember what an evil person she was."

She cast him a side-eye once more, only to see Dragon shrugged nonchalantly. Again, she shook her head, powerless to command the man. After all, even if Hera remembered anything, Dragon had already reached so far all these years.

’Seeing her there... is proof of how powerful he had become,’ she thought, letting out a shallow breath. ’Hera, you lost.’

[Six years ago]

"Dragon," Deborah breathed out as she stood in front of the entrance to Dragon’s small home. She was soaked from head to toe due to the heavy rain outside.

Her eyes were wide, seeing her shadow stretch toward the body lying in the middle of the entryway. Even though all the lights were off, there were candles lit to give her a chance to see this gruesome sight.

The body lay in a pool of blood. When she sensed another person’s presence, the woman slowly raised her head. She tried to crawl away, reaching her hand out to Deborah.

"June!" Deborah called as she rushed to the woman. She immediately checked the woman’s pulse, only to feel a faint beat from the side of her neck.

"Deb..." the woman breathed out, clasping the hem of Deborah’s clothes. "Help... me..."

"June!" Deborah yelled as she held June’s shoulder, only for her to hold her breath upon catching a figure from the corner of her eyes. She slowly turned her head, only to see Dragon smoking on the couch.

"Dragon," she called under her breath, catching some speck of blood from his neck up to his sharp jaw.

"Let her be, Deb," Dragon took a long drag, puffing the smoke up. "Hera scheduled her death for tomorrow. I didn’t want to do this to June, but she found out about my plan. So..."

He trailed off as he cast the woman, bleeding to her death with a nonchalant look. "... that’s what happened. Instead of dying painlessly and soundlessly, this happened."

Deborah opened and closed her mouth, but her voice was stuck in her throat. What was Dragon saying? And how could he act so nonchalant toward his wife, June? Although Dragon was crazy enough to make a woman, his wife, and ask the same woman to go under the knife to look like someone, Deborah was convinced he loved this woman.

"Dragon," Deborah breathed out with a shaky voice. "Don’t tell me... you asked June to go under the knife to look like her because..."

She couldn’t finish her sentence as her conclusion didn’t need any confirmation. She had always known this man was insane and that he was obsessed with Hera Cruel. The reason she said nothing when June went under the knife to look exactly like Hera was that Dragon was happy at that time. Deborah believed it, June believed it, and everyone around Dragon believed his feelings were real toward June.

But it seemed Dragon simply weaved perfect webs of lies for everyone.

"Try to keep her alive until tomorrow, Deb, and take care of her face." Dragon slowly rose from his chair, tossing the cigarette to the side. As he turned around to leave, he added, "The Reapers will bury her for us."
