Chapter 722: Staying because he wants to
When Tiger returned with the tray and food, Ivy sat up and rested her back against the headboard. She was expecting fancier dishes, but he returned with reheated food from the convenience store. Luckily, she was friends with Heaven for a long time, and Heaven would occasionally take her to eat at the convenience store or try street food. Therefore, these foods weren’t too unfamiliar to her.
"Ahem!" Ivy cleared her throat aloud, peeking at the man sitting on the chair beside the bed. Tiger was holding the bottom of a paper bowl with one hand and a plastic spork with the other.
His brows rose as he snapped his eyes at her. "Any problem?" he asked with genuine wonder in his eyes.
"No," she shook her head as she cast her eyes down. "I just need some water."
Her hand trembled as she reached for the glass of water on the tray over her legs. She took a mouthful, clearing her throat afterward to make a more believable lie.
"You don’t like the food?" he asked once again, cocking his head to the side. "Should I order something different?"
"No, it’s fine." Ivy looked back at him and flashed him a smile. "Heaven always makes me eat food from the convenience store and sometimes gives me buns from the bakery. It’s okay."
"Oh. Okay," Tiger shrugged. "Just let me know if you prefer something else. I’ll get anything that suits your taste."
Ivy pressed her lips into a thin line as she smiled, watching him eat his food with an air of nonchalance. She raised her brows briefly as she refocused her attention on her food. At least, Tiger made an effort to transfer the food onto the plate.
"About last night..."
Just as Ivy shoved the food into her mouth, Tiger suddenly broke the building silence between them, causing her to almost choke on it.
"Are you okay?" he asked with furrowed brows, watching her glance at him and nod.
"I’m fine—cough!" Ivy reached for the glass of water to clear her airway. She covered her lips with the back of her hand, looking back at him once again. "What about last night?"
Tiger ran his tongue across his inner cheek as he pondered about it. "It was amazing."
Her face instantly turned red as she held her breath. Ivy forced out a shallow laugh as she looked away.
"It was," she muttered. "Though it’s a little painful."
"How are you feeling now?"
"I’m okay, I guess?" She forced a smile and looked back at him. "All I need is rest, but I’m sure I’ll be fine."
"Good." He nodded in understanding, assessing her face intently. "Can you remember what I said before that?"
"Ah... yes," her smile stretched a bit. "Don’t worry. I’m not expecting us to date or anything like that. What happened last night... it’s an amazing experience, but it changes nothing. So, you don’t have to worry about anything."
Saying her piece brought this unpleasant taste to the back of her throat, but she maintained a friendly smile. "I’m not going to chase after you just because you took my virginity. My thoughts and feelings about focusing on myself didn’t change, Tiger."
"It’s Clark."
"Huh?"
"Tiger is more like a nickname. Something that my sister named me," he explained nonchalantly. "Though call me Clark if there’s only the two of us. I don’t like the name that much."
Deep lines appeared between her brows at his remarks. "Oh... I see." She cast her eyes down a bit as she bit her bottom lip.
"You should stop doing that," he remarked, earning her attention once again. He puckered his lips, pointing at her lips. "It’s giving mixed signals. It’s inviting."
"It’s a habit," she frowned. "But anyway, don’t you have other things to do for the day? If you’re staying here because you feel responsible for this mild fever, don’t be. I can handle it. This isn’t the first time I fell sick."
"I have other things to do, but I’m staying because I want to. Unless you don’t want company, then I don’t mind going away."
"That’s not... never mind." Ivy rocked her body slightly, unsure of how to respond to that. For some reason, his answer sounded indifferent, but it was quite flattering. "If you want to stay, then I don’t mind having company. But I’m telling you, I can be quite demanding when I’m sick."
"That’s why I’m staying to run your errands."
Her lips stretched as a soft chuckle slipped past her lips. "You’re underestimating me."
"Bring it on." He shrugged, winking at her mildly. "You finish your food. There are some medicines in the drawer. Take them right after the meal."
"Mhm."
With that being said, the two of them continued their meal in silence. Ivy would glance in his direction from time to time. Tiger was still wearing her robe, which was a little short for his height. His hair was still unruly, and his naturally droopy, thin eyes looked a little sleepy and lazy.
’After this meal, what are we going to do?’she wondered to herself as she set her eyes on her plate. ’Sleep again? Or does he plan on doing it again? But right now, my entire body feels sore, especially down there.’
Ivy shook her head as she shut her eyes for a moment. ’Let’s not think about that. Once I finish this meal, I’ll take the medicine and sleep! He might be like this, but I’m sure he will not force himself on me. That’s right. Maybe I can ask him to do me some errands, so he has other things to focus on.’
While Ivy thought of ways to ease her heart and mind from any possible happenings between the two of them, Tiger’s solemn voice pierced the thickening air. She slowly turned her head in his direction, only to see him staring intently at her.
"What did you say?" she whispered with furrowed brows.
"Remember when I said my sister died?" he repeated under his breath. "It turns out she’s actually alive."
