Chapter 709: Clarity about the office rumors
Chapter 709: Clarity about the office rumors
"I did my best. You’re on your own now."
Everyone’s mouths fell open, watching Axel run away as fast as he could. He ran so swiftly that they could almost see smoke rising from beneath his feet.
What in the world was that about?
Meanwhile, Heaven’s face twitched in dismay. She wasn’t the only one involved in this rumor! And she hadn’t done anything to deserve such attention.
"Ugh..." Heaven pinched the bridge of her nose, only to raise her brows. When she looked up, she noticed that everyone’s attention was already fixed on her.
Great.
"Pepsi?" Belle, who was struggling to understand the situation, looked at Heaven with utter confusion. "What’s going on?"
"Uh... Belle, the thing is..." Heaven hesitated as she pondered her next words. "Did I mention that my husband was upset about the rumors involving my brother and me?"
Belle lowered her head slightly while her brows furrowed.
"Well, the thing is, I promised that no such rumors would involve me. Otherwise, he’ll come to the office and set the record straight." Heaven cringed as Belle looked back at her blankly.
Her voice was quiet, with a hint of difficulty, but everyone was listening intently. In other words, she was saying that if another ridiculous rumor appeared, her husband would...
Everyone’s thoughts trailed off as their already gaping mouths nearly hit the floor. Their eyes darted from Heaven to Dominic and back to Heaven and Dominic again.
How had they not considered this possibility?
After a brief silence, the sound of glass shattering on the floor pierced the tense atmosphere. Some of them flinched and instinctively looked toward the source of the sound. Their eyes landed on the broken cup on the floor, along with spilled black coffee. Slowly, they raised their eyes, only to see horror on Mister Yang’s face.
"I’m really sorry, guys!" Heaven exclaimed as she threw up her hands. "Trust me, I didn’t want to deceive anyone. It’s just that Mister Yang mistook me for Pepsi when I was simply attending the board of directors’ meeting! I thought it was fun at first and didn’t plan to show up the next day, but Mister Yang kept sending me important notes to be done the next day!"
"..."
Dominic slowly peeled himself away from the wall, and Heaven perked up upon seeing his motion.
"Anyway, Axel is not my husband, all right?! He’s my little brother-in-law. Stop that nonsense!" Heaven hurriedly explained and then looked at her husband in horror. "Darling, I’m still working. I forgot I need to run an errand — see you later, and love you!"
"..."
Just like Axel, Heaven suddenly disappeared as she fled the scene as fast as she could. Everyone could only stare at the entrance in a daze.
"Please tell me this isn’t happening," an employee mumbled listlessly. "Pepsi... all along... is the Young Master’s mystery wife?"
The only answer the employee got was pure silence. Everyone had finally obtained clarity about the rumor. Axel wasn’t secretly married; it was inconceivable.
Now that they thought about it, their errand girl was telling the truth, albeit just half of it. She was indeed married, and her husband was currently unemployed because, upon reflection, Dominic was still running for a government position. He hadn’t won yet. She mentioned having two children already; how many children did the previous CEO have?
As far as they knew, Dominic had mentioned expecting a new one. Their errand girl had mentioned that she had just given birth not long ago.
How had they not considered that Heaven and Axel were in a family relationship instead of a romantic one? They hadn’t stretched their brains to think outside the box, and now they were reeling in surprise.
"Hah... see? It wasn’t that hard," Dominic remarked, shaking his head. He kept his gaze on where Heaven had originally stood before turning his attention to everyone. Instead of saying more, he looked at Mister Yang.
"Mister Zhu! I — I’m sorry!" Mister Yang trembled in fear the moment he locked eyes with Dominic. "I didn’t know she’s the Young Madam — I mean, I didn’t mean to mistake her for an employee! The art department has been extremely busy for the past several months, and I didn’t double-check immediately! Please don’t fire me! I’ll do my best, and I promise you this won’t happen again."
"As you should," Dominic replied coolly before peeling his eyes from Mister Yang. "Several months ago, during the announcement of the new members of the board, my wife was ought to attend the meeting. However, she ended up swamped with work she shouldn’t have been doing."
Mister Yang and everyone swallowed hard, wondering where this was going.
"However, my wife somehow enjoyed her experience, and she believed that everyone needed an extra pair of hands and feet. So, even when she wasn’t obligated to come to this office, she still showed up."
Dominic paused, scanning everyone’s faces. "My wife can be unpredictable, but she takes her role here very seriously. Please, stop picking on her and making ridiculous rumors about her. This is not what I was expecting in return for her willingness to help everyone in here."
Sincerity replaced the frostiness in his eyes, and he inclined his head slightly to show his sincerity. When he straightened his back, Dominic drew a deep breath before he added,
"Treat her as an equal because the only reason she didn’t reveal the truth is that she wanted to be treated like any other employee." Dominic let out a shallow breath as he took a step. "Anyway, I apologize for this inconvenience. I thought my presence here would clear things up and create a better working environment for my wife... and for everyone."
Dominic bowed slightly again before turning on his heel. He walked away from the department, even though he hadn’t received any response from any of them. But just as he was about to exit, he stopped and looked back.
"By the way, her name is not Pepsi. It’s Hera — I mean, Heaven Liu."
