Chapter 700: Confession and Rejection

"Once you’re ready, rest assured I’ll still be single. So, take your time. No rush. You don’t have to chase; I don’t run. I’ll still be in the same spot where you left me."

Warmth surged in Ivy’s heart as her eyes softened at Tiger’s remarks. Her smile turned soft as her cheeks turned a little pinkish, understanding the meaning of his words. She appreciated that he didn’t leave her confused tonight. It was clear as day that he’d wait, and they could try and see how things progress from there.

"Thank you," she expressed sincerely. "That means a lot to me."

Tiger smiled as he raised his shoulders a bit and tilted his head. "Also, you’re lucky you’re Heaven’s friend. You shouldn’t confess to people like that so abruptly. You almost lost your virginity in this car."

The softness in her eyes drastically disappeared as her face turned beet red. Tiger laughed aloud while she glared at him.

He shook his head once more as he set his eyes ahead. He arched a brow and waved at her before the car slowly moved away. Meanwhile, Ivy stood in the same spot while staring at the car’s bumper.

"Goodness. Does he really have to say that?" she murmured, touching her red face with the back of her hand. "It was already perfect. He didn’t have to mention my virginity and what could’ve possibly happened if he didn’t behave."

Ivy pressed her mouth and bit her bottom lip, glancing up to see that the car was already out of sight. The corner of her mouth slowly curled up, unable to stop her suppressed giggle.

"Heaven is probably right," she murmured in between her giggles. "I should reconsider her offer to see the psychiatrist and an ophthalmologist. I think there’s something wrong with my head for hoping something actually happened."

A low chuckle escaped her mouth as she turned around. The smile on her face never left her as she walked inside the building where she lived. On her way, she couldn’t stop giggling to herself, tucking a portion of her hair behind her ear.

’I wonder what his body looks like without all those suits on...’ her slightly perverted thoughts of Tiger’s naked body trailed off as she caught a person from the corner of her eye. Ivy slowly turned her head. Her eyes landed on Dane, who was sitting on the couch in the lobby.

"Mr. Zhang?" she called, brows furrowed.

Dane slowly raised his head and smiled a little. He rose from his seat, standing straight to his height. He only stared at her quietly while she slowly tilted her head to the side.

"Mr. Zhang." Ivy marched in his direction until she was close enough to talk to him. "What are you doing here?"

"I just came by to check on you," he explained with a smile. "But I see that you had company."

"Well." Ivy bit her bottom lip to stop herself from smiling widely. "Tiger just drove me home. He wasn’t really with me, but I called him to drive me home."

"I’m surprised he didn’t lash out at you. He had quite the temper," Dane chuckled. "Trust me. It’s scary."

A wave of laughter escaped her mouth, and she looked back at the entrance on instinct. "That’s why it’s more flattering that someone like him doesn’t care to hurt others or even curse them. But he doesn’t do that to me. It makes me feel a little special."

"I see."

"Anyway, do you want tea? I threw away all the coffee from my place, and —"

"No need, Miss Wei. I just came by to see how you were doing. But since I see that you’re doing better, I’m already glad." Dane maintained a friendly smile as he nodded at her. "I’ll go. Good night, Miss Wei."

Ivy pressed her lips and nodded, watching him march away from his spot. But just when he walked past her, her voice already flew out of her mouth even before she could realize it.

"I like him," she blurted out, surprised by her own confession as well. However, after a second, she sighed in relief as she didn’t regret telling him.

Dane, on the other hand, stopped in his tracks. He slowly raised his eyes, sensing her turning around to face him.

"I like him, Mr. Zhang," she repeated. This time, in a much calmer yet confident tone. "I don’t know why I am telling you this, but I feel like I should. I like Tiger, but we decided not to date yet. I want to focus on myself first, so he doesn’t have to fix me or break himself to complete me."

"You don’t have to tell me that," he replied quietly as he looked back to face her. His understanding and friendly smile remained, nodding at her reassuringly. "I’m happy for you, Miss Wei."

Ivy’s expression softened as she smiled. She was expecting this response from him, and she expected it would hurt. Surprisingly, it didn’t even sting. If anything, she felt relieved. Perhaps the years of rejection from him helped in this scenario.

"Thank you for checking on me, but I’d really appreciate it if you don’t do this without telling me anymore. I don’t want any more confusion," she expressed, being true to herself. "Take care on your way, Mr. Zhang. Good night."

Ivy lowered her head slightly before turning on her heel to walk away. Meanwhile, Dane stayed where he was and stared at her back. When she reached the elevator and stepped inside, the friendly smile on his face gradually disappeared.

"Why am I expecting she’d look back?" he murmured. "She already said she would stop if I refused her again... and so she did."

A short, bitter laugh escaped his lips as he cast his eyes down. Dane said nothing anymore as he walked away. Each step felt heavy with the growing bitterness in his mouth.

"I should’ve believed her when she said she was serious."
