Chapter 699: Damn, I’m amazing!

"I like you," Ivy’s voice quivered as she confessed, her jaw tightening. Slowly, she reopened her weary eyes, catching a glimpse of Tiger’s stoic side profile.

’Did he not hear me?’ she wondered, questioning whether she had spoken her confession loudly enough. She pressed her lips into a thin line and sighed. ’I guess that’s too abrupt. If he didn’t hear it, then maybe it’s for the better.’

Another deep exhale slipped past her lips as she closed her eyes to rest. She still felt a little woozy from all the alcohol in her system. Fortunately, she had thrown up before this ride; otherwise, she would’ve done it in the car.

Meanwhile, Tiger remained quiet with his eyes fixed on the road. When his brows creased, he turned his head to check on her. She had her eyes closed, resting but not sleeping soundly, evident from the way she gripped her seatbelt tightly.

His mouth parted as if to break the building silence in the car, but he thought better of it and remained quiet. His eyes squinted every once in a while as various thoughts crossed his mind. In the end, the entire journey was consumed by an almost awkward silence.

After the seemingly endless journey, Tiger slowed down and parked the car in the building’s driveway.

"We’re here," he announced with a faint huff, turning his head to see Ivy reopening her eyes.

Her brows rose as she peeked out, and upon seeing the building, nodded. She unbuckled her seatbelt without a word and slowly straightened the reclined front passenger seat. She picked up her purse from the floor by her feet and turned to face the driver’s seat.

"Thanks," she whispered with a forced smile. "Always. I promise I won’t bother you next time."

Tiger didn’t respond and kept his eyes on the windshield. Seeing that he wasn’t talking or even looking in her direction, Ivy bit her lip out of habit and turned around to open the door.

’I’m so stupid,’ she mentally berated herself. ’What made me think confessing to him would help? Heaven was right. I should’ve learned from Dane and his reaction when I abruptly confessed to him, just like this.’

"You like me?" Just as Ivy held the door to open it, she stopped when Tiger suddenly spoke. Her shoulders tensed slightly as she gulped.

"Or did I mishear it?" he continued.

She pressed her lips into a thin line, casting her eyes down. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes. When she reopened her eyes and huffed, she twisted her upper body to face him again.

"You didn’t hear me wrong," she clarified with a resolute tone, prepared for another refusal. At this point, she told herself she should be numb by now. Dane had trained her. "I said I like you... I mean, I think I do."

"Oh," Tiger responded, a slow smile forming. "Really?"

Ivy’s brows rose in surprise. His reaction was completely unexpected. She remembered Dane shutting down when she confessed, so she had expected a similar response.

"Yes," she stammered as her lips quivered. Her shoulders and head lowered, peeking up to see his reaction.

"Well, that’s a surprise," Tiger laughed. "The intelligent, beautiful, and successful Miss Wei fell for my irresistible charm. Damn, I’m amazing!"

Ivy pressed her lips into a thin line, unsure of what to say. She had expected various outcomes from her confession, but not this one. Tiger was proudly gloating, but he wasn’t addressing the two of them. She wasn’t even sure if this was a good thing or bad. After all, she had only planned to let him know about her feelings and nothing else.

"But... I don’t want to date yet," she confessed, her voice shaking. "I mean, I like you. I’m not sure why or how, but I think I do. However, I just had a heartbreak. I don’t think I am mentally and emotionally prepared for a commitment," she explained, gaining a little more confidence as she spoke. "I just said it because I wanted to put it out there. Also, maybe, a little hopeful."

"Hopeful, for what?" Tiger asked.

"Please don’t be a jerk," Ivy blurted out even before he could add something to his query. "All I’m saying is that I like you, but I want to focus on myself more. So, if in the future you’re still available, I won’t be so disheartened if you refuse me."

"Dang," Tiger frowned and sighed, shaking his head mildly. "The very first woman who confessed to me also doesn’t want to date me. What a plot twist!"

"Is that bad?"

"Nope," he grinned. "It’s cool. Good for you."

Ivy pressed her lips into a thin line, a subtle smile forming on her face. "So, does that mean nothing will change?"

"Are you sober?"

"Well, I think so," she shrugged since she had sobered up during the ride. "Why are you asking? What’s that got to do with my question?"

"Because I wanted to make sure you’ll be able to remember what I’m going to say," he said with a knowing look. "The answer to your question is no. Something will definitely change. I don’t think I’d look at you and not wonder what you’d look underneath me."

Her face turned red, and her breath hitched. Her lips quivered as she opened and closed her mouth.

"I think I should go," she breathed out with an awkward laugh before clumsily opening the door. As she tried to flee after his abrupt remarks, Tiger’s lips stretched from ear to ear.

When Ivy stepped out of the vehicle, Tiger whistled.

"Hey, let me tell you something," he called, making her turn around and bend down to look at him.

He leaned closer to the front passenger seat, smirking as he said, "Once you’re ready, rest assured I’ll still be single. So, take your time. No rush. You don’t have to chase, I don’t run. I’ll still be in the same spot where you left me," and then winked at her.
