Chapter 694: Call

Meanwhile...

When the new Hera found the phone, she hesitated for a moment. The phone was turned off, and she was afraid that if she turned it on, it might alert someone. She mulled it over for a moment, and after minutes of pondering, she sighed.

"If it alerts someone, I can just play it off," she said, shaking her head. Help was within her reach, and she should take a leap of faith.

The new Hera watched as the phone lit up, holding her breath. Her heart skipped a few beats as she glanced nervously at the door. When the phone displayed its home screen and no one came to the door, she breathed a sigh of relief.

She bit the tip of her thumb as she focused on the phone. She checked for reception and was relieved to find a signal. Without hesitation, she went to dial a phone number, only to stop.

"I don’t know his phone number," she muttered, remembering she had no idea how to contact Dominic. She hadn’t been interested back then. She could call the phone number of the real Hera — who was apparently in Heaven Liu’s body — but she was certain she had changed her number.

Her heart sank as she realized she didn’t remember any contact number from the Zhu family. How was she supposed to call for help now? Paula Shen was now behind bars, so her phone number wasn’t working anymore, for sure. The new Hera felt regretful for not caring back then. If only she did, she wouldn’t be in this dilemma now.

"What am I going to do..." The new Hera trailed off, raising her brows as an idea crossed her mind. "Right."

Hope shone in her eyes as she immediately tapped the numbers on the screen without hesitation. Besides her own contact number, she remembered one person’s contact number.

Leo Wu.

The sound of the phone rang in the large bedroom of one of the exclusive low-rise condominiums. The ring persisted, disturbing the peace this place usually had. Leo, still in his bathrobe with water still dripping from his hair, marched back to his room to answer the call.

"I told them not to bother me while I’m on leave," he grumbled in irritation, guessing this was another call from either his manager, assistant, or the management. Only a few people knew his personal number; some of them were his family, close friends, and the people he usually worked with.

When he picked up the phone from one of the drawers on the desk, deep lines appeared between his brows. It was an unknown foreign number.

"Is this what Manager Yang told me about?" he wondered to himself, as he had been expecting a foreign call. His manager had told him about it because an international luxury brand was inviting him for a fashion week. Although his manager did mention they would probably call him in a few days.

"Isn’t it a bit too soon for this?" he murmured, then shrugged nonchalantly.

Convinced that this call was an international call he had been expecting, Leo answered it without hesitation. But before he could say anything, he heard a woman’s voice from the other end of the line.

"Thank God you answered!"

"Who’s this?" Leo frowned, detecting relief in the woman’s voice.

"It’s me!"

The lines between his brows deepened. "You need to say more than that for me to know who you are."

"It’s Heav—"

Leo waited for the person to continue, but there was silence. The woman suddenly stopped talking. He pulled the phone away from his ear to check. The line was still connected, but the woman suddenly turned silent.

"Hello?" he called. "Are you still there?"

Nothing.

"Is this a prank call?" he wondered, only to flinch when he heard the faint thud of the phone, as if the person from the other end of the line dropped it. "Ouch."

Leo glanced at his phone once again, and the line was still connected. Despite the earful sound, he still placed the phone in front of his ear out of pure curiosity.

"Hello? Are you still there?" he asked, but after a second, he heard her voice once again. This time, however, her voice sounded faint.

"What are you doing here?"

"Who?" Leo asked once more, but much to his dismay, he barely heard another man’s voice from the other end of the line.

"Because I missed you," was what the man said, and then the line suddenly disconnected.

Leo, who was now hearing continuous beeping sounds, looked at his phone with great puzzlement. His brows were knitted together, and his eyes swirled with curiosity.

"What was that about?" he murmured, then shrugged after a minute. "Probably a wrong number."

Leo didn’t think much about it. After all, the woman who called him didn’t mention his name. It wasn’t like this was the first time it had happened. It happened to him once in the past, so he didn’t think it was anything important.

"Still, what a coincidence she speaks our language fluently," he remarked as he put the phone back in the drawer to resume what he was doing previously.

Unbeknownst to him, that few-second call would bring a great omen he never thought would come his way.

Dragon’s eyes fell on the phone that Hera had dropped. When she saw where he was looking, she instinctively stomped her foot on it until its screen broke.

"I knew you were faking it," he murmured as he slowly lifted his eyes to her. His expression was calm yet dark. "Hera, dear, do you really think I’m not watching you?"

Hera’s heart thudded against her chest as she gulped. She took a careful step back, glancing at the men standing behind Dragon.

’What was he doing here?’ she wondered. ’He said he’d be out of the country! Why did he come back?!’

"I knew you’ve been sneaking around here when you’re alone," he said with his deep baritone while her breath hitched.

How did she not think he might’ve placed cameras in this room to monitor her?

"How sneaky, like always." A subtle smile appeared on Dragon’s face before he glanced over his shoulder. "Take her. The second phase of my plan will now commence."
