Chapter 689: Advice on love dilemma

Chapter 689: Advice on love dilemma

"What should I do?"

Heaven studied the conflict in Ivy’s eyes, which made her sigh in disappointment. Surely, Ivy had a bad taste in men. But compared to Dane, Tiger was much better in terms of other things. At least Tiger was capable of protecting her. Not that Heaven had any say in it.

Ivy was pretty, intelligent, and a woman who almost had it all. Meanwhile, Tiger might look like that, but on a serious note, the man was very capable and well-respected in the underground. The only problem was that Ivy’s life would change if the two ended up together.

’She has no idea,’ Heaven thought, sighing for the second time.

"Come here, you poor thing," she murmured, taking a step toward Ivy and pulling her into her embrace. "Why are you like this?"

"I don’t know." Ivy pressed her lips, hugging her friend back. "I can’t understand myself sometimes."

"So?" Heaven pulled back. "You don’t want to pursue this guy and want to focus on yourself, but you feel like you’re going to regret it if you choose this?"

"Yes."

"Ivy, what are your priorities?" asked Heaven. "To be honest, I can’t give you the answer right now. But I’ve been in a position where I had to choose between my wants and needs."

"What did you choose back then?"

"My needs." Heaven’s expression turned solemn, recalling that time when she was Hera. "Because if I chose what I wanted, those who relied on me would have to suffer. I would suffer as well. In life, we have to make hard decisions."

"I know that. It’s just that... I don’t know."

"Ivy." Heaven placed her hands on Ivy’s shoulders, offering her friend a reassuring smile. "What I’ve learned in my life is that if it’s meant to be, it will happen. If you’re done working on yourself and loving yourself more than anyone, if he’s still available, ask him out. But once he can’t wait, then that’s an indicator that it’s not meant to be. It won’t work, no matter how hard you try. I hope you remember your situation with Dane when you reconsider your options."

She slowly slid her hands down, clasping Ivy’s hand, her eyes still holding hers. "This time, I’m asking you as a friend and someone who cares for you. Please choose yourself."

A moment of silence fell between them as Ivy processed Heaven’s remarks. A small smile slowly turned up on Ivy’s face, and she nodded in understanding.

"That clears up everything," she whispered, squeezing Heaven’s hand back. "I need a hug."

"Come here." Heaven didn’t waste a breath as she embraced her pitiful friend, who often sought warmth and love from others. Even though she still found it unpleasant that Ivy somehow liked Tiger, what mattered was Ivy’s feelings.

’I meant everything I said,’ Heaven thought as she mentally sighed, patting Ivy’s back gently. ’But I deeply hope your feelings for him are a momentary emotion. You and Tiger... I’ve seen how many people changed since waking up in this body. I’ve already caused enough damage; I don’t want you to be another casualty.’

Bitterness flickered across her eyes as she recalled the situation of everyone around her. Heaven wasn’t verbal, nor had she ever shown it to others — even to her husband. But the guilt in her heart had been weighing her down.

Dominic had changed in one way or another. His hands were sullied because of her, and even now, Dominic sought to become a politician because of what happened after Sebastian’s abduction. He knew that if he wanted to be with Heaven and protect their family, he had to be more powerful than he was.

Axel, on the other hand, wasn’t talking with his parents anymore. Even when there were family gatherings, he hadn’t attended since he was discharged from the hospital. Although this was a more personal matter, Heaven believed she was at fault one way or another.

Her children should have more freedom to go outside without bodyguards watching them. But alas, because of Heaven, their lives were in constant danger.

These were just things that everyone simply accepted, but for Heaven, it wasn’t that easy. Even so, she didn’t allow it to stop her, knowing that once she stopped, she could never afford the price. It would be better if Ivy stayed away from this situation, but close enough to be her friend.

"Thank you, Heaven," Ivy expressed sincerely as they parted. "You’re right. If it’s meant to be, it’ll happen. But if it’s not, then no matter how hard I try, it won’t work. I feel much better now. Thank you, really."

"I’m glad I could help," Heaven smiled back, and with that, the two women continued to make their way to the office. When they were closed, Heaven checked the time and winced.

"Are you okay?" Ivy inquired, only to see Heaven look at her helplessly.

"You should help me," said Heaven. "I’m late, and my boss can be very scary at times. Sometimes, I can’t help but wonder if he thinks he’s the heir to the Lyon Group."

Ivy chuckled and grinned. "Employees like that are assets to the company."

"But they’re hell to their co-workers."

"There are always pros and cons regarding these matters, but don’t worry." Ivy winked at Ivy. "It’s my fault you were late, so I don’t mind using a bit of my influence here. Rest assured you won’t get scolded."

"I trust you." Heaven heaved a sigh of relief. If it was Ivy, she was certain Mister Yang wouldn’t dare.

When Heaven and Ivy reached the art department, Heaven’s face twitched. The moment they arrived, everyone in the art department was looking at the entrance as if they had seen a celebrity. Mister Yang, especially, hurriedly welcomed Ivy with his horns tucked inside his balding head while putting up a fake halo.

"I’m sorry, Mister Yang," Ivy displayed a beautiful smile, looking at Mister Yang and recognizing the man. Ivy remembered this man from the anniversary celebration. "I know a man like you is keen on time, but Pepsi, right here, ran late because of me."

"Miss Wei, that’s alright!" Mister Yang chuckled while Heaven scrunched up her face.

’This feels like I’m seeing Director Guan — the bald version.’

"Thank you. It’ll be on my conscience if she gets in trouble because of me. I heard she was scolded the other time too, so I’m a little worried she’d get scolded again."

"Of course not! Pepsi right here is a great addition to this department. We value her just as much!" Mister Yang went on and on, saying things that Heaven had never felt while working as an errand girl. Since when did Mister Yang see her as valuable?!

Ivy stuck around and entertained Mister Yang until she bid him farewell. On the other hand, Heaven started going back to her desk, grateful that Ivy saved her from a potential scolding from her boss. But when Heaven sat down and Ivy left, all her workmates, including Mister Yang, flocked around her desk.

’Great.’ Heaven looked around while everyone around her was asking for favors or questions. ’Great, Ivy. I should’ve known getting scolded was better.’
