Chapter 687: First, I’m sorry.

"Great. Now I have more explaining to do."

Ivy raised her brows after Heaven’s murmuring, turning her head as the latter shifted her attention in another direction. The moment Ivy’s eyes fell on the three beautiful ladies with Heaven, she bit her tongue.

’Right,’ she thought, remembering that these ladies knew Heaven as the errand girl. Ivy smiled at the ladies, whose faces showed a mix of surprise and confusion.

"Pepsi helped me back then while she was doing errands," explained Ivy to the ladies with a big smile, casting Heaven a look. "Right? If not for her, I would’ve been in big trouble."

Heaven furrowed her brows but then nodded in understanding. "I told you it’s nothing."

"Ahh..." Belle nodded as she processed Ivy’s explanation. "Is that so?"

"I see. So, that’s how you knew Pepsi?" Heaven’s other colleague chimed in. "I was honestly shocked."

"Well, Miss Wei was in a dilemma while I was doing errands. I remember getting scolded by Mister Yang because he thought I was idling around." Heaven chuckled nervously, stretching out the lie a little. "At first, I didn’t know who she was. I was just as shocked as you when I found out who she was."

Ivy and Heaven chuckled, going along with this lie. Although Ivy’s chuckles weren’t fake, she found these circumstances amusing. Lying and living through this web of lies wasn’t a good example for other people, but then again, this lie wasn’t harmful. It was cute.

"Anyway, I’m borrowing her for a moment." Ivy hooked her arm around Heaven’s, making the latter lean back while looking at her suspiciously. She was still looking at Heaven’s colleague with a beautiful smile. "I’m in need of a friend today. I hope you won’t mind."

"Of course not!" Belle waved dismissively. "Very well. It’s almost time for us to go back to the office. Pepsi, you should return on time or Mr. Yang will scold..." she trailed off as she glanced at Ivy. "Nevermind. We’ll tell him you’re tending to a very important person in the company."

With that said, the three ladies from the art department bid Heaven and Ivy farewell. Heaven simply watched her colleagues with a blank expression, while Ivy smiled from ear to ear.

"I think I handled that very well," Ivy proudly remarked with a giddy smile, feeling a little mischievous for lying to people. She glanced to her side, her eyes landing on the other woman walking beside her. Since Heaven had to return to the office in time, they decided they could talk on the way, albeit at a slow pace.

"What’s with that look?" asked Ivy, furrowing her brows. "Did you think I didn’t do a good job?"

"I don’t know." Heaven cast her friend a quick look. "How did you know I was in the cafeteria?"

"Axel." Ivy shrugged. "I came to meet him again for the revised business plan he trashed the last time. When I was leaving, I asked him if he knew where you were. I didn’t want to wait for so long again. He told me you were in the cafeteria."

Heaven frowned while Ivy chuckled.

"Don’t worry. Your brother-in-law isn’t stalking you. I’m sure he was just worried about you. Also, as the new CEO of this company, he needs to know even the smallest details."

"Smallest details... like knowing where an errand girl is in real-time?"

"Axel is the new CEO, and I’m sure you understand the pressure of replacing Dominic," Ivy smiled warmly. "Try to understand."

"I’m not saying I don’t." Heaven shook her head and sighed. "Anyway, what’s up? Why did you come for me?"

Ivy bit her bottom lip as she stopped in her strides. She turned on her heel, facing Heaven squarely. The latter furrowed her brows as she stopped and faced Ivy as well.

"First, I’m sorry," Ivy breathed out.

"For?"

"For having a dirty mind." Ivy gulped the shame rising in her throat as she continued with a deep breath. "When I saw you with Tiger, I initially thought something was going on between you two."

Heaven raised a hand at her to stop before turning her head to the side to gag. Ivy frowned, watching Heaven throw up invisible fluid as if she had been drinking.

"Please!" Heaven wiped the corner of her mouth, looking at Ivy as if the world wronged her. "Stop this madness right this instance. Me and Tiger? Oh, my God! I’m married! I’m not stupid and purposely choose a downgrade! Goodness! I’m getting goosebumps!"

Ivy frowned, seeing the profound irritation in her friend’s eyes. "You didn’t have to go that far," she murmured with a pout. "I mean, Tiger doesn’t look that bad. He’s tall, tan, and handsome. Although he looks like a mess most of the time, he surely is a hot mess."

"Are you crazy?" Heaven gasped dramatically. "Wait. Are we talking about the same person here?"

"Heaven."

"Darling, sweetest, is there something wrong?" Heaven took a step closer to hold Ivy’s hand, looking at her friend with deep worry. "Didn’t you say you got your eyes checked? How come you see differently than everyone else?"

Ivy pressed her lips into a thin line, keeping her response to Heaven regarding the matter to herself. But if she was going to, she wanted to tell her friend it was actually her who saw things differently than everyone else. Tiger wasn’t bad — he was hot for women’s taste for sure; a bad boy type of guy that women would fawn over.

"Anyway, I’m really sorry for putting malice in what I saw." Ivy let out a deep exhale. "I feel like I failed you as a friend."

"No, forget about it. You’re not the first person. It’s just good you came to me because your conscience is eating you from within." Heaven shook her head. "But why, though? Why did you think there’s something going on between the two of us?"

Ivy bit her bottom lip as she recalled the root of why she put malice in Tiger and Heaven’s relationship. After all, if she had only seen the two of them together, she would instinctively think Heaven was with her husband’s bodyguard. But she saw Tiger’s eyes before he met Heaven earlier that day. It was a look she had never seen before, and the fondness swirling in them as he talked about Heaven was as clear as day.

"He looked differently at you than everyone else," she remarked, remembering how Tiger watched Heaven’s back when she returned to the office. "I think he likes you."
