Chapter 685: Office drama unfolds

Heaven and her colleagues ignored the snickers and mocking looks from the other table. They continued to eat their lunch, talking about anything they could broach. But when they were almost done, the women from the other table suddenly approached them.

"Nice watch, Errand Girl."

Heaven and the other three women sitting around the table stopped. They slowly turned their attention to the group of women standing beside their table. The first woman with platinum hair smirked, arms crossed, glancing at the women until her eyes fell on Belle.

"Hello there, Bella," the blonde woman remarked with a hint of mockery. "I see that despite the rumors about the errand girl in your department, you’re still hanging out with her."

"Marissa." Belle rolled her eyes and then raised a brow. "The rumors aren’t true, and why do you care who I hang out with?"

"True. It’s not surprising that you’d hang out with someone like you." The blonde woman, Marissa, glanced at Heaven. "I heard you were called into the CEO’s office and investigated by the human resources. I’m surprised you’re still here."

"That’s because the rumors aren’t true," the other woman with Heaven scoffed. "Marissa, can you please stop acting like a mean girl? This is not high school where you can bully Belle whenever there’s an opportunity."

"Bully? That’s a big word." Marissa frowned. "I came here because I was just worried that it won’t be good for you if you keep hanging out with her."

"Hey!" Belle rose from her seat, confronting the other woman who had come to cause trouble for no reason. "You don’t talk about my colleague like that. Just because you’re in the finance department doesn’t mean you’re better than us in the art department."

"I never said that." Marissa shook her head. "All I’m saying is this errand girl always wears luxury items from head to toe. Even that simple tote bag she always carries around is worth your entire paycheck."

She paused and cast Heaven a look. "But considering she’s still new in the company, her paycheck is different from everyone else’s. Strangely, she can afford such things when her pay grade isn’t as high as mine. Isn’t that true, Errand Girl?"

"You!" Belle clenched her teeth and balled her hands into a tight fist, having the urge to strike this woman in the face to put her in her place. But acting on that ’fantasy’ of hers would risk her job.

Marissa, who was expecting the same reaction from Heaven as the rest, arched a brow. Heaven continued to eat and finish her food as if she wasn’t hearing anything.

"Are you resorting to silence? Do you think ignoring me and not defending yourself is the best course of action?" Marissa’s face twitched, a little annoyed at the lack of reaction from the errand girl. She glanced around the cafeteria, realizing they had already gathered quite the attention. It wouldn’t be good for her image if Heaven didn’t react. It would only make Marissa look like a bully.

"My colleagues told me not to mind you, so I thought they had a point." After a moment, Heaven spoke while wiping the corner of her lips. "Arguing with someone lonely and helpless is not worthy of one’s attention. People like that tend to pick on those weaker to give themselves self-satisfaction. It makes them think they are doing better than others when, in fact, they’re not. They’re just miserable."

Heaven slowly turned her head, looking up at Marissa. "I don’t like looking up. Why don’t you sit so we can talk?"

"Hah..." Marissa scoffed. "They told you that?"

"No. That’s just what I realized when you approached this table, when you got no reaction from us," Heaven explained with a smile. "You should sit, or people might think you’re bullying us. I heard the CEO is keen on finding bullies in the company nowadays. The Lyon Group has been in the spotlight because of the previous CEO’s candidacy. They don’t want other people to think that the employees in the Lyon Group are bullies."

"I’m not bullying you," Marissa’s words sounded like they were going back and forth in her throat, trying to think of a proper rebuttal. "I’m just calling you out!"

"Oh? Is that so?"

"You—"

"Marissa, don’t embarrass yourself any further," Belle jumped in, a little satisfied at Marissa’s reddening face. "This is not high school anymore, where everyone will think everything you do is right. If you still have a problem with me, then confront me. Don’t drag other people into it just to hurt me."

"Ha ha." Marissa laughed in ridicule, darting her eyes between Belle and Heaven and then the rest around their table. She approached, thinking they would react the way she expected them to. People in the art department were all a pathetic bunch. They were emotional people, and with the rumors about the errand girl being so widespread, it was a good opportunity for her to stand out.

After all, many people were displeased that the errand girl was still around. In other departments, they concluded that she pulled some strings. If Heaven had married a rich, old man, that wasn’t impossible. However, if Marissa put this issue into the spotlight, there were definitely benefits.

Who knew? It might catch the attention of the handsome new CEO, who was a bachelor. She also heard the new CEO hated people who were trying to get into the company through connections. Therefore, this was a perfect opportunity. But alas, the outcome was the complete opposite of what she expected.

"I can’t believe you..." Marissa shook her head and laughed. "Is this how the art department protects each other? Twisting people’s words and kind intentions just to make themselves look like victims?"

"Marissa..." Belle hissed, only to raise her brows when she saw a figure standing behind Marissa. The anger in her eyes instantly dissipated and was quickly replaced by surprise. Marissa, who saw the change in Belle’s expression, smirked confidently.

"I’m so disappointed in you, Belle." Marissa shook her head and sighed. She then cast Heaven a look, the only person who wasn’t looking at her with the same expression as Belle. "Errand girl, I don’t know how you made others believe your defense, but not me. I know that hair clip, that blouse, those heels, and even that skirt aren’t knockoffs. If I were you, I’d be very careful."

Marissa took a momentary pause as she planted her hand on the table, lowering her head as she dawdled. "If I were you, I wouldn’t wait until the time your dirty laundry was out."

"If there’s anything dirty here, it’s the one in front of me."

Marissa froze when she heard a woman’s voice from behind her. She slowly turned her head to see who it was and immediately recognized the woman.

Ivy Wei.
