Chapter 668: Heartbreak
"He said I deserve to have it after what I went through — ah!!"
Just as Axel fixed the rearview mirror, he immediately caught a person in the backseat, causing him to scream his lungs out. Out of instinct, Axel reached for the small bag that was slipped between the driver’s seat and door and pointed a pistol at the person on the back as soon as he got it.
Moose, on the other hand, flinched when a scream suddenly escaped Axel’s mouth. After a second, Axel was already holding a pistol while pointing it at the backseat. He furrowed his brows and looked back to see what caused Axel to act like this. His face twitched as soon as his eyes landed on the person in the back seat.
"The hell are you doing here?" Moose asked, assessing Joker who was melting in the backseat while petting a cat on his lap.
"Yes, just kill me," said Joker lifelessly, closing his eyes as he accepted his fate. "I don’t think I can live for another second anymore. What’s the point of living when your beloved cheated on you and is now married to another man?"
Moose’s face twitched at the dramatic sentiments coming from Joker. The latter’s complexion was pale and the bags under his eyes were darker than they’d ever been. Joker was petting a cat on his lap, and even that was the only indication he was still alive.
"Man..." Moose sighed as he raised a hand, planting it on top of Axel’s pistol, and pushing it down gently. "It’s okay, man. I know this guy."
Axel warily lowered the gun, darting his eyes between Moose and the person in the backseat. "You know him?"
"How I wish I didn’t, but yeah. I know him." Moose sighed for the second time, looking back at the back seat. He assessed Joker for a while, running his tongue across his inner cheek. "Just don’t mind him. Let’s go."
"What?" Axel gasped in disbelief. "You’re letting him be?"
"Yeah." Moose buckled up his seat. "That guy’s a goner. Don’t mind him. Just let him be. He’ll recover before you even know it."
Axel pressed his lips into a thin line, obviously displeased with this situation. He huffed and slowly placed the pistol back into the small bag, slipping it into the secret compartment.
"Mr. M, I know you know this guy, but I don’t appreciate that a stranger is inside my car," he expressed honestly. "How did he even get in the first place?"
Moose shrugged, but before he could give his guess, Joker spoke.
"Easy. I picked the locks and failed," Joker answered monotonously, staring into nothingness as if there was no meaning in his life anymore. "So, I have to hack its system and give me access. Good thing I already have an existing system for this brand because I had to open the same model smuggled to another country a few months back."
Axel and Moose looked back at Joker in dismay.
"Oy, what are you even doing here?" Moose inquired in a dead tone. "No one cares what sort of hocus pocus you did to get inside. There’s a lot of cars in here and you chose this one?"
"Because if I’m going to cry, I’d rather cry in this fancy car. I’m broke." Joker slowly blinked as he set his eyes on Axel. A thin layer of tears coated his dead eyes. "Second Young Master, what will you feel if the woman you pledged to marry suddenly comes back and claims she now has a husband and two children?"
"..." For a while, Axel was speechless. "I don’t know..."
"I know you’d be just as devastated as me." Joker drew a deep breath and sighed. "But yep, that’s what I’m going through right now. My heart’s bleeding and I can’t see the purpose of his life anymore. All the promises, our future together..."
"Eh... don’t mind him. He’s crazy." As Joker dramatically went on and on, Moose smacked his lips and faced Axel. "Let’s just go to your destination."
"You want me to go with that guy in the backseat?"
"Well, unless you want to change cars, then I’m afraid we’ll have to take this guy." Moose sighed for the umpteenth time, glancing at the back seat while Joker was still mumbling. His eyes fell on the cat Joker was continuously petting, making Moose shake his head in dismay.
"He’s harmless, don’t worry." He offered Axel a wide smile, nodding at him encouragingly. "Just think of it as helping another person. This guy might throw himself in the river — he’s heartbroken, you know? I’m sure you know how it feels to be heartbroken."
"No, I don’t. At least, not that kind of heartbreak." Axel cleared his throat, pausing as he assessed Moose’s face and then that barely existing man in the backseat. "Fine. I still don’t appreciate that he trespassed in my car."
"Yep, yep. Your feelings are valid." Moose raised his brows briefly as he raised his hands over his shoulders. "He’ll apologize once he gets himself together." — if Joker would ever recover from this, which Moose doubted.
"Tch." Axel shook his head and clicked his tongue, staring at the car and allowing another person to tag along with them. For him, he shouldn’t be surprised that Moose knows all sorts of strange people. "He’s not an addict, right?" he asked as he drove away from the underground parking space.
"Second Young Master, this guy’s crazy, but not an addict." Moose looked back at Joker and shook his head mildly again. "What a poor soul. I’ve never seen him in such a pathetic state. Surely, this is a huge blow to him."
Despite that Joker left Moose hanging on the wall not long ago, the latter still feels sorry for him. But then again, Joker deserved this. Served him right.
Meanwhile, Joker cast his eyes down to the cat sleeping on his lap. His lips curved down until he was biting his bottom lip, weeping his heart out.
"How can she disregard our promise? It’s as if everything we talked about is nothing! Huhuhu! I gave her everything, but she just went with another man and — huhuhu!" Joker wept on and on, torturing the other two in the front seat with his cries and rants throughout the journey.
