"Good job."

Axel turned his head to his side, only to see Moose smirking at him proudly. He smiled back, nodding as he set his eyes ahead as they took the hallway heading to the elevator.

"Should I say it was a success? I’m surprised, Second Young Master," Moose remarked as he shoved his hand inside his pocket. "I thought you’d be so nervous and wet yourself."

"I was nervous," said Axel. "But I have to make it through no matter what. My brother and sister entrusted me with the company. I can’t let them down."

"What a nice boy you are."

"Also, I can’t waste your efforts, Mr. M." Axel cast Moose another quick look. "I know it’s a little late, but thank you for everything."

Moose looked back at him and winked. "You’re welcome."

"Anyway, do you have any plans for today?"

"I and some members of the board are planning to play golf in the afternoon."

"Oh."

"Wanna join?"

"Well, I’m tempted, but I’ll pass."

"Nope." Moose shook his head, earning another look from Axel. "Let me say it again. You should come whether or not you like it."

Deep lines appeared between Axel’s brows as he asked, "Why?"

"Why?" Moose stopped in his tracks, turning on his heel to face Axel. He raised a finger and pointed it at him. "Second Young Master, it’s only your first day as the CEO of this company. Sure. Your first board meeting was a success, but you have to keep the momentum. Do you understand why your brother spares them his time, even when he doesn’t want to?"

"Because they have a power in the company?"

"Exactly. He needs to keep a close eye on them." Moose nodded. "And do you know how the hell you got into that position when all the other candidates were far more suitable than you?"

Axel didn’t answer immediately as he pressed his lips into a thin line. "I see," he said, nodding in understanding.

"As the CEO, you run this company. However, if the majority of the board doesn’t want you, then it’ll be a huge problem for you." Moose turned on his heel and resumed his steps. Meanwhile, Axel stood still for a second before jogging to catch up with him. "My point is, the majority of the board are now my friends. And they listen to me. It’s fine because it’s me, but you shouldn’t be too complacent. Me, having the authority to change their minds only gives me the same authority as you, the CEO."

He cocked his head back, sliding his eyes to the corner. "That’s your first assignment. Take away my authority, Second Young Master."

"Is that even possible?" Axel murmured, earning laughter from Moose.

Although Axel had been running his own small company, the Lyon Group was different. It was as if he skipped a few steps before running this business. Not to mention, the one he replaced was Dominic. People would compare them no matter what and thus, Axel had to carefully think of his steps.

Moose, on the other hand, might be a new member of the board not long ago. However, it would be foolish to underestimate the man. Moose had a lot of experience running businesses and also, and he had his own ways of getting people’s trust.

"Haha. Anyway, where are you going?" Moose inquired as they almost reached the lift. "Don’t tell me you’re planning to go home?"

"No." Axel shook his head. "My next appointment is in three hours. So I have three hours of vacant time."

"Hah..." Moose pouted as he rocked his head. "You should use that time working or preparing yourself for your next appointment."

"I know that." Soon enough, Axel and Moose stopped in front of the lift. Axel pressed a button going down, straightening his back, eyes on the shut elevator door. "I could be doing a lot of important things, but I’m afraid I won’t have the time next time. So, I want to take advantage of this time to close a Chapter in my life."

Moose arched a brow, assessing Axel’s side profile. The latter cast him a quick look and smiled.

"I’m going to the city jail," said Axel. "That’ll be the last time I’ll willingly see him in this life, Mr. M."

"I bet." Moose shrugged nonchalantly. "Then let me tag along."

"Huh? Why?"

"Nothing much. I’m just curious, that’s all."

"Curious about what?"

Moose didn’t answer this time but instead looked at Axel with a dead expression. The latter cleared his throat and didn’t answer, nodding.

"I won’t ask anymore," Axel murmured, zipping his lips into a thin line. "Anyway, I’m driving."

"I never offered you a ride. Don’t worry. I have tons of free time, so I can spare you the next three hours."

With that being said, Moose and Axel stepped inside the lift and headed to the underground parking space. Axel took a deep breath as soon as he walked through the quiet parking space, remembering the unforgettable memory he had in this place. But he didn’t want to dwell on it.

Axel repeatedly told himself he wouldn’t allow the past to control his life. He got to learn from Silas’s mistakes. Therefore, he has been taking care of his mental health for that reason.

’No one will hurt me again,’he told himself as they marched toward his car. ’It’s not like there would be a person inside the car, waiting for me with a gun. I locked this car properly and also, Mr. M is with me.’

Axel glimpsed at Moose and let out a sigh of relief. Nothing bad would happen and even if something bad would, Moose was with him. Good thing the man offered company. With that thought in mind, Axel confidently hopped inside the driver’s seat while Moose got in the front passenger seat.

"Oh, nice car." Moose whistled as soon as he sat in the front passenger seat. "Is this new?"

"It’s a gift from my brother not long ago," Axel shared as he buckled up his seat. He then leaned forward to fix the rearview mirror while adding, "He said I deserve to have it after what I went through — ah!!"
