Chapter 651: What makes you think we’d hold a funeral?
After the disastrous anniversary event, every single individual had their own take on the situation and aftermath. It was already mentioned all over the news what the public thought about it, but everyone in the room had their own concerns.
That was why Bear arranged a meeting under Dominic’s orders so they settled things down. They cleared all their schedules just to be there. For Dominic and Bear and everyone who already knew the truth, communication was the key. But now, they figured they were wrong in this scenario. It wasn’t about communication; it was comprehension. Patience, as well.
A loud slam on the table stopped the continuous series of questions filling the private room in one of Zhu’s business establishments. Everyone stopped asking, setting their eyes on the woman sitting at the other end of the table.
"Oh, my goodness." Heaven shook her head in dismay, scanning the faces of those who were bombarding her with questions. She couldn’t even understand a sentence because they were all talking at the same time. "I take it back. Don’t ask."
"What?" Tiger clicked his tongue, moving closer to the table, eyes on her. "You cannot just take it back. You gave your word and, to be honest, it’s not fair to be kept in the dark."
"Your existence is already shrouded by darkness, Tiger. Haven’t you grown used to it?" Moose tilted his head to the side, casting Tiger a quick look before shifting his attention to Heaven. "His concerns are not worthy, Young Madam. Please excuse his... impudence. He doesn’t know better."
"And you think you know better?" Tiger scoffed.
"Yes. So, Young Madam, any plans for the dipping stock market? As you know, I deeply recognize the value of the Lyon Group and its potential. What I am saying here —"
"What you’re saying is nothing but bullshit," Joker chimed in, rolling his eyes as both Tiger and Moose were nothing but a nuisance. He snapped his eyes ever so slowly to Heaven, arms crossed. "So? Care to give me a proper explanation why I should stick around?"
"I believe that’s not important right now." Wolf also spoke his mind, offering Heaven a kind smile, and ignored the bunch of monkeys sitting with him. "Young Madam, I heard a lot of things about you. To be honest, I’m impressed. However, will you explain why you’re here instead of Mr. Zhu? As far as I know, he is not in a comatose unlike what’s in every tabloid and news."
"What do you mean?" Tiger returned to Wolf, right brow arched. "If you have business with Mr. Zhu, you go talk to him. You’re being a nuisance here for those who really have business with her!"
"Oh, I also have business with her."
"Like what?" Moose jumped in, and his tone had a vestige of annoyance and mockery. "Like what she had for dinner?"
Wolf smiled, but it didn’t reach his eyes. "That scar on your face really suits you. Want my autograph on the other cheek?"
"Come on." Joker rolled his eyes grumpily. "If you two have some business with each other, then just do it outside. You’re free to do so. Kill each other, go. No one’s stopping you."
"You know what I think? You three should leave." Tiger suggested with a reassuring smile. "Don’t worry. If one of you is at the brink of death, I’d step in to —"
"Shut up!" The three retorted in unison, looking at Tiger in utter dismay.
"Oh, my goodness," Heaven mumbled to herself, pinching the bridge of her nose as the three of them continued their banter. None of them wanted to back down or let each other have the last word.
"Also —" Tiger suddenly stopped as he slowly veered his eyes to this side where Gray sat. "Hey, why aren’t you talking?"
"Huh?" Gray raised his brows, earning the other three’s attention. "Because I’m tired and I’m no fool to argue with a bunch of monkeys?"
"Did he... just call us a bunch of monkeys?" Joker scrunched his nose up, casting Wolf a quick look before the two looked back at Gray.
"Gray, I know your lactose intolerance has nothing to do with this. But I’m telling you I have a bunch of cheese in my car which I can shove down to your throat." Moose warned, causing Tiger’s face to scrunch up as the latter looked at him in dismay.
"Why?" Tiger asked.
Moose shrugged. "Side hustle? I was planning to deliver it after this meeting."
"There’s no illegal substance in it, is there?" Wolf narrowed his eyes suspiciously.
"Oh, come on! Do you really think I’d go down that path?!"
"Well." Wolf shrugged as he leaned back, folding his arms underneath his chest.
"Ok. I like money, and I know money is the root of all evil. But just to make it clear, I am the kindest person in this room," Moose clarified, and obviously earned glares and dismal gazes from everyone in the room. Seeing the looks they were giving him, Moose opened his palms on top of the table. "What? That’s true. Just not long ago, Joker left me alone to fall from a few-story castle-like venue. If I didn’t take a leap of faith and jumped from the window he came from, you guys would be holding a funeral instead of a meeting. But despite that, did I hold a grudge against Joker?"
A moment of silence befell the meeting room before Moose continued. "No, right? I didn’t. I forgave him even though he hadn’t said sorry. I’m a good person."
"A good person doesn’t call himself a good person," was Wolf’s rebuttal, which was then followed by Tiger.
"What makes you think we’d hold a funeral? For you?"
"If there’s something we would do, that would be dumping — I mean, burying you somewhere," Joker added in a knowing tone. "Though I appreciate that you are putting a lot of faith in us. Next time, climb a much taller building. I’ll send my drones to assist you."
All the expression on Heaven’s face was long gone, dead. She slowly moved her lifeless eyes to Bear, who was standing just right beside her seat.
"Bear," she called, pointing at her face as she requested. "Can you punch me in the face and take me to the hospital? I won’t get angry. Just make sure you’d knock me unconscious — it’ll be nice if I’d be unconscious for three days."
