Chapter 648: He’s the reason Hera Cruel died.

The night of the Lyon Group’s anniversary celebration was a night many people would never forget. For those who attended the night, it was a total nightmare they were glad to be woken up to. Very few of them left, while some took a break from the company for their own peace. Others chose to stick around just for the mere fact their big boss made a heroic sacrifice.

When the battle was over, authorities from across the country arrived. As usual, they were late. However, they were still helpful to those who were outside the venue. Thanks to the Wei Family’s assistance, the aftermath of the hostage-taking was dealt with accordingly. After all, it happened on their own premises, and thus; they had no choice but to make sure the situation wouldn’t look as bad as it sounded.

However, that attempt was futile because the next day, the news of what happened shook the entire nation. Women, men, children, and the elderly had heard the horrific news that befell the Lyon Group’s celebration. Every media outlet covered the story and even the internet didn’t stop talking about it. Overnight, the Lyon Group, which was only often talked about in the business news, was all over the place.

No matter where people go, they know the story. But most of them didn’t talk about the criminals, but rather, the heroic sacrifice the CEO of the said business empire had made for his people. Many considered Dominic as a hero without a cape, while a small group blamed him for everything.

It was crazy.

It was rare to get a glimpse of the Zhu family’s private life, but when they did, no one was ready for it.

"And update for the investigation of the horrific night that happened during the Lyon Group’s anniversary... the CEO of the Lyon Group, Dominic Zhu, is still in a coma. Supporters from the employees and some citizens made a strike in front of the police’s main office —"

Dominic raised the remote and turned off the television in the middle of the news.

"Why did you turn it off?" Heaven frowned, sitting on the side of the hospital bed where her husband was lying. "I’m watching."

"It’s the same news we had to watch minutes ago," he said, turning his head to the side where his wife sat. "Why are you sitting there? Come here."

Dominic patted the space beside him, gesturing for her to join him. Heaven sighed as she carried the plate of grapes before joining him on the bed.

"Darling, I think you’re being too much into this character you’re portraying," she muttered, casting him a knowing look. "You’re not really hurt, you know?"

"But I like it when you feed me."

She blinked. "But I am hurt."

"Where?"

"Well... somewhere." She shrugged, keeping the grape in between her fingers as she guided it to his lips. She fed him a piece and sighed, picking up the remote control that was between them to watch the news. "Darling, look at them."

Heaven cast him a side-eye before setting her attention back on the screen. Right now, the news is covering the protests of the masses, seeking justice and criticizing their slow response in emergencies. Dominic’s heroic sacrifice and ’terrible’ condition after the nightmarish night earned many people’s sympathy. So, the public turned their dismay and anger toward the government, as they only appeared at the end of the night when everything had already ended.

"My..." Heaven rocked her head in satisfaction. "Darling, I think it’s a success."

She looked back at him, only to see him watching the news. "We did a good job."

"We did?"

"Huh?" Heaven tilted her head to the side. "What’s with that doubtful tone? Silas and Primo were arrested — though the latter was still in the hospital. Our family is safe. The people who were saved can only speak of your heartwarming sacrifice. The public sympathized with you and our family while venting their outrage at the police, and lastly, none of your men died. Some got injured, but they’re alive and getting better."

She listed all the good things that they earned throughout the night and, honestly, the result was much better than they expected.

Dominic pressed his lips into a thin line as he stared at his wife. "Who is Dragon?" he asked. "I’ve been thinking about him ever since that night, but I understand everyone was busy. But now that things have quieted down, I think it’s time for us to talk about it now."

"Oh, right."

"When Bear and Tiger saw him, they seemed... shocked and at the same time, alarmed," he continued, eyes still on her. "And when I mentioned him to you the first time, I almost didn’t recognize you. I would be lying if I said I didn’t feel scared. So, I’m curious. Is he your former lover?"

"What?"

"I’m just curious."

"And that’s what you’re curious about?" she scrunched her nose up while Dominic shrugged.

"At this point, I already accepted that my wife lived a dangerous life and thus, she’s dangerous herself," he explained calmly, but his eyes swirled with curiosity. "So worrying about danger is futile, since I have to accept this is already a part of our lives now, especially with the next phase of our plan. However, I think I deserve to know more about the people who used to be in your life in the past and not just those in the present."

Heaven pressed her lips into a thin line as she relaxed her back against the headboard. She peeled her eyes from him, setting them on the plate and grapes on her lap.

"Dragon... or Frank, is someone who used to be a family," she confessed quietly, eyes drooping. "Every single one of them was my family, but Frank, Princess, and I watched each other grow up before Fig joined the party."

"What happened?" he asked. "Did he betray you?"

"He disapproved of the idea that I’d take over the family when I lost my mom," she sighed, scratching her temple to keep her story short but clear. After another breath, she faced Dominic squarely. "But that’s not why everyone is like that. Betrayals in the underground are normal and somehow, we’ve kind of accepted that’s how it is and will always be. But Frank did something that none of them would ever forgive."

She took a momentary pause before she continued, "He’s the reason Hera Cruel died."
