Chapter 647: Stick around

"I’m alright! Don’t shoot — especially you, Tiger!"

Heaven let out a short huff as she glossed her eyes over the rooftop. Aside from the burning chopper, everyone seemed fine. Although Silas looked stupid while looking in her direction. She snapped her eyes down, catching a figure flying up.

’I knew it. He’d be here,’she thought, blinking back and turning her head back to the person inside the chopper. "I’m jumping."

"Bold." Dragon nodded as he motioned with his hand. "Very well."

"Dragon... is it? Bear called you that?"

"Yes?"

The corner of her lips curled up into a short smile that didn’t reach her eyes. "Let’s not cross paths again. I appreciate that you’re letting me go; you’re in good luck."

"What a way to say that." Dragon smiled back, staring at the woman standing by the open door.

The stray hairs of her messy updo flew back with some of it stuck on her cheek. She had a small face, about the size of his hand, and had a petite figure. One look and a person’s first impression was that she was like those fragile women who should be protected at all costs — like a princess who was more fit to stay in the castle to pray for her soldiers’ safety rather than leading them to war.

But alas, what he had seen was enough for him to realize he couldn’t judge her based on her looks. Those pair of phoenix eyes that were burning with confidence and fearlessness were solid proof she didn’t need protection.

"Though I get the feeling we’d meet again," he continued after a momentary pause, holding her gaze without the intention of looking away. "Until then, Pepsi."

A momentary silence descended on their shoulders as they held each other’s gazes. Heaven nodded once without a word, turning her back on him without any fear he would shoot her from behind.

"The feeling is mutual," she muttered and somehow, despite the loud rotor sound of the helicopter, her remarks reached his ears. "But until then... I hope you enjoy the life of no regrets, Dragon."

The second the last syllable rolled out of her tongue, Heaven turned around to face the man once again. Without a second hesitation, she jumped back and raised the rifle in her hand.

BANG!

Her lips curled up into a cunning smirk, falling down from the chopper, but her eyes fixed on Dragon. The man, on the other hand, raised his brows and maintained eye contact until she was out of sight. He turned his head in the direction where she opened fire and his eyes landed on the pilot, now bleeding in the cockpit, dead.

"What a truly interesting lady," he murmured and then chuckled, shaking his head mildly as he strutted to the pilot’s seat. Dragon unbuckled the pilot and dragged him out of the cockpit. Once he did, the lifeless pilot slowly rolled out of the open door while Dragon squeezed himself into the pilot’s seat.

Dragon didn’t even look back if his men inside the chopper would fall or not. He just had this simple smile plastered on his face, chuckling from time to time, remembering that a woman was able to force him to retreat.

"This world is truly vast," he mused, as he picked up the headset to pilot the chopper away. "I thought there was only one woman who could ever make me retreat. But I guess I truly haven’t seen this world as I thought I did."

His smile turned into an amused smirk, pleased to meet Heaven despite not being able to obtain success. He failed in killing Primo and he also failed in taking down even one Reaper. Normally, he’d find this failure unpleasant. But letting them go was worth it.

"If fate allows," he whispered, snapping his eyes ahead. "I’d really want to see her again and maybe introduce her to her. I’m sure they’d get along."

He chuckled once more before talking to the people through the mic of the headset. "I changed my mind. Mission failed. Let’s retreat... for now."

Meanwhile...

"Boss!" Bear was prompted to jump and catch the second he saw Heaven jump off the chopper. But alas, he heard a faint sound from below, making him look down and see Joker flying up.

Deep lines appeared between Bear’s brows as he squinted his eyes. "Are those wings?" he wondered, but didn’t dwell on it as he gazed up at her. "Ah. For sure, she saw him."

His tensed muscles relaxed, knowing she was safe. He snapped his eyes to the chopper and caught it descending for a bit. When Heaven jumped away from the chopper, she opened fire once. With the angle of her rifle, Bear could guess she shot the pilot. But that wasn’t enough to make him think Dragon wouldn’t get away for now.

’He’s one lucky bastard,’ he thought, huffing as he watched Joker catch Heaven, and both of them descend drastically. "Or maybe we are... because she’s still alive."

Bear moved forward as he gazed over the railing, frowning as both Joker and Heaven continuously fell. Thanks to his modified wings, though, it was able to slow down their speed.

"Are those wings support one person only?" he wondered, getting a little bit worried now. "She really stuck to some old habits. I guess that’s something she couldn’t get rid of anymore. I’m sure they’ll be fine, though."

With that thought in mind, Bear slowly lifted his head and set his attention back to the chopper. The chopper picked up its pace again and steadily rose to the sky. Another shallow breath slipped past Bear’s lips, torn whether he should feel relieved that that man left without a word or worried for the same reason. Because that means Dragon was still alive.

"I guess that’s not important right now." He shook his head and turned his head back, only to see Dominic squatting down beside Primo while checking his pulse.

"Bear." After a second, Dominic turned his head in Bear’s direction. "I think... No One is dying."

"Ah!"

Heaven and Joker didn’t pick up their pace as they steadily descended until the two of them hit the ground. A loud grunt and shriek escaped their mouths as they met the ground. Thankfully, they didn’t get any injury because Joker’s invention slowed down their speed.

"Ugh..." Heaven winced, clasping the grass on her side as she tried to push herself up. "What the hell? Can’t those wings support two people?"

Joker also had his teeth clenched, still lying on his side. He snapped his eyes to the ingrate, who was sitting up with great difficulty.

"After saving you, is that how you thank me?" he sassed through his gritted teeth. "Ah, my side. Ouch!"

Heaven sighed and ignored him, looking up, and saw the chopper leaving. Another deep exhale slipped past her lips, making her shoulders lower.

"Thanks, Joker."

"You’re welcome —" Joker furrowed his brows and squinted his eyes suspiciously. "How did you know it was me?"

Her expression died in an instant, setting back to the man not far away from her on the ground.

"Uh... I recognized your voice?"

"I’m using a voice changer."

Right.

Heaven pressed her lips into a thin line while looking at him as if she was caught red-handed. This man surely knows how to make her feel guilty about something even though there wasn’t anything to worry about.

"Don’t leave," she said under her breath, looking up once more as she continued. "We have a lot of things to talk about. Stick around. I think it’s about time... since my own hell really caught up with me, even in this life."
