Chapter 645: [Bonus Chapter]Deadlock
Meanwhile, inside the chopper, Heaven and Dragon engaged in close combat. Yet, they were in a stalemate. They looked at each other with Dragon holding her securely, his arm against her upper chest, to her throat with a gun under her chin. Heaven, on the other hand, was motionless in their position. Her back was against the pilot’s seat and his foot was raised to her leg. He got her in a good position where it seemed to be a checkmate. But the smirk on her face said otherwise.
"You’re good," Dragon mused, glancing down to his side, where he could feel something pressing on the side of his abdomen. He slowly lifted his eyes back to her, raising his brows briefly. "Though I don’t understand this antagonistic air you emit."
"You tried to kill me."
The man blinked and then remembered the occurrence a few minutes ago. "Now I understand." He nodded in understanding. "But are you sure you’re going to continue?"
"My pleasure."
"I take this as your foolishness," he returned calmly, pressing the muzzle under her chin, only to feel the gun on the side of his stomach press against his skin. "You don’t know who you’re trying to make an enemy of."
Heaven squinted, only to laugh as a surge of relief engulfed her heart. As she laughed, Dragon furrowed his brows and tilted his head to the side.
"Did I say something funny?" he asked out of plain curiosity.
"No." Her laughter subsided slowly, setting her eyes back to him. "I just remembered something." — she just remembered she was Heaven right now. Fortunately, she didn’t say anything stupid because her anger at the thought of this man took over her.
"What a strange woman," he mused. "Miss, do you want to become my family member?"
"No."
"With your skills, I’m sure you wouldn’t need to start from the bottom," he continued despite her outright refusal. "If you need a guarantee, then I can guarantee that you will become a part of the core. You’ll live in luxury —"
"And danger?"
"I think you’re already living a dangerous life. However, I don’t think you’re getting enough compensation for sacrificing your peace," he explained as if he truly believed his proposal was tempting enough. "I don’t have any business with you and I never cared if you live or not until now. But now, it’ll be a shame to let go of such a talent."
For a moment, they only stared at each other before her smirk slowly turned into a gentle smile. Her eyes softened as if she was looking at someone she longed for all her life. Seeing the change in her aura and expression, the man slightly furrowed his brows.
She looked sentimental, he thought, which confused him for a moment. That confusion was short-lived when she leaned her face a little closer and dawdled;
"Never in nine hells."
A layer of frost covered his rigid expression, sliding his eyes to her. The softness and longing in her eyes disappeared, replaced by malice that could make one wonder if what he saw was simply a figment of imagination. But that wasn’t what surprised him, but how she constructed her refusal.
"You’re a good actress," he pointed out, earning a smug smirk from her.
"Because I am. Not to brag, but I am an award-winning actress. I just got nominated for the Best Supporting Actress from my last film, which I turned down because that means my husband will have to watch it." She shared a bunch of nonsense before her expression slowly turned cold. "Mister, you said you don’t have any business with me, but care to explain why did you try to burn me?"
"My target is not you."
"I see..." She rocked her head mildly, feeling the muzzle graze against her chin. ’So, he didn’t really come here for me, huh? But for No One?’
"Your target is the man I was with?" she asked just to confirm, and Dragon nodded. "I see."
"Is he dead?"
"Yep."
"Your tone makes me doubt you."
"You don’t know me, Mister." Heaven offered him a kind smile. "So, even if I’m telling the truth, you’d doubt it. That’s only my guess though, since you seem the type."
"You’re right." He nodded in agreement.
"Then just take my word for it."
"That he’s dead?"
"Exactly."
"You’re confusing, but no."
"Then that means we’ll have a problem."
"I suppose you’re right." Dragon nodded once more, sliding his eyes to the side and then back to her.
The corner of his lips curled up slightly, a little amused at this deadlock situation. He could pull the trigger and blow her head off. But from the angle of her rifle, she might not blow his head off, but she would kill him.
"How about this?" he proposed. "I will leave you alone and you leave me alone."
"No." Heaven shook her head in an instant.
"But why?"
"Leaving me alone doesn’t count those guys on the rooftop."
Dragon blinked ever so slowly. "You’re clever."
"Thanks."
"You shouldn’t care about them, Miss," he said in a knowing tone. "Most of those people on the rooftop weren’t worth protecting."
"They’re quite a handful, but they’ve grown in me."
The man didn’t speak for a while as he assessed her quietly. "You remind me of someone."
"I don’t think we’re in a situation where you have the luxury to reminisce. Unless this means life is flashing back on you, then you’re free to do so. You’re just one bullet away from death."
"Haha. You’re interesting."
"And you’re about to make me nod off," she smirked arrogantly. "Before we find out who dies first, how about you tell me what you want from Primo Rossi?"
"Nothing."
"Hmm?"
"I only want him dead."
"Woah..." she whistled, but her eyes twinkled with curiosity. "Why?"
"Because he’s poking his nose where it doesn’t belong. I believe he is the man who will keep his mouth shut, even if I torture him. So, it’ll be best to keep his mouth shut and take all the information he knew in his grave."
"Oh." Heaven rocked her head in understanding, but she didn’t want to pry anymore.
Whatever mess Primo got himself into didn’t interest her. Primo was a lot of things. And sometimes, he was dumb and too ambitious for his own good. Even Moose was careful and often considered his next business ventures so as not to attract unnecessary troubles. Primo’s small power probably got into his head and unknowingly offended this evasive man.
However, all the logic she made to understand the situation instantly died when Dragon opened his mouth once again.
"No family will appreciate it when a creep like him keeps running his mouth, telling everyone he’s marrying my sister."
