Chapter 637: What a silly life.
[Minutes before the explosion]
Heaven closed the door behind her, confident Grandma Zhu was in a place away from any bullets from the rooftop. She stopped for a moment, crossing her eyes, watching the person in the helicopter with interest.
"Fuck!"
A short giggle slipped past her shut lips, seeing that Primo was throwing a huge pit in the cockpit. She shook her head mildly, marching toward the unmoving chopper. When she reached it, she stretched her hands to the handle, jumping inside and leisurely getting inside the cockpit.
"God damn it..." Primo ground his teeth, ignoring the presence that appeared in the co-pilot seat as he busied himself through the wires.
"I’m getting a little disappointed." As if they were friends who had the leisure to chat, Heaven lifted her leg over the other, arms crossed. She cocked her head back, eyes on Primo. "You only have three minutes, No One. Once the five-minute truce is over, I’m going to kill you."
"Right, right, I know. Don’t talk to me. I’m busy."
"Need help?"
This time, Primo paused and lifted his head to her. "Do you see me for a fool?"
"No, but it was worth the try."
"I don’t need your help, alright?" He rolled his eyes, setting his attention to the wires in his hands. "Though I’m amazed that you are this relaxed around me. For your information, I have a rifle here on my side. I looted it on the way here while you took your grandmother-in-law. So, if I don’t fix this, I’m going to shoot you in the head."
He stopped for a moment once again, casting her a quick look. "Or I might shoot you early so you stop pressuring me."
"Haha. It won’t work." She laughed languidly, watching him try his best to get the chopper starting. "I’ve ended Elmo after that phonecall, and planned to end you the second I see your shadow. But alas, you took your precious time."
His hands that were holding the wires stopped at her remarks. Primo slowly straightened his back, turning his head to her, only to see the playful smile on her face.
"Do you get what I mean, No One?" she arched a brow, sporting a knowing and cunning look. "I’m a person who dislikes waiting. I always look for things to do while doing so. So, to kill time, I thought this chopper was a bit useless. I don’t need it to get away because once this is over, I’m planning to pull off the acting that might earn me another Best Actress award."
In other words, she ruined this chopper that a simple rewiring wouldn’t fix.
"Motherfucker," Primo breathed out, rocking his head in understanding. "I’m really a fool, am I?"
"You are." Her eyes fell on his hand, which slowly released the wire. "Getting the rifle ready? Are you sure they’re working?"
His hand stopped at the rifle on his side, eyes still fixed on her. "At this point, everything that comes out of your mouth is suspicious, Miss Liu. I wouldn’t know unless I try."
The second those words rolled out of his tongue, Primo swiftly aimed the pistol at her and pulled the trigger. Heaven didn’t move or flinch at his action, watching him pull the trigger at her, only to hear the pathetic clack of the rifle.
"See?" she blinked, cocking her head to the side. "It’s not working."
Primo’s pupils dilated as he pulled the trigger one more time, but nothing came out. He looked at it, horrified.
How?
When he picked it up earlier, he checked the magazine. It was still loaded. How come it wasn’t firing?
"Are you new in here, No One?" she asked out of pure curiosity. "At the beginning, I really thought you were dangerous. You are, though. But compared to the people I met in the past, you are like a child. Killing isn’t the only thing you do when on a battlefield. Making sure they wouldn’t see a faint sliver of hope is also done along the way. Gaining mastery of weapons not just in using them but also in how to quickly destroy them is a useful skill on a battlefield. After all, one weapon lying around can turn the tables."
Heaven leisurely leaned back as she gave him a lecture. "I admit you’re smart, too. I mean, your plans are perfect. But those things only work on the small fry."
"Miss Liu, I sincerely hate to say this, but you’re a small fry yourself."
"Well." She paused and pondered for a moment why he was saying that. Heaven forgot for a second she was no longer Hera. Therefore, Primo’s remarks had some truth in it. "You’re right. I am."
"Hah..." Primo let out a series of low laughter while shaking his head. He put down the rifle, raising his hands at shoulder level as a gesture of surrender. "Shoot. I guess I’m dead and you win."
"But there’s still two minutes left."
"Ehh... doesn’t matter." He waved dismissively. "I’d rather die now than have the time to reflect on where life took me. Make it quick, please. So I don’t feel any pain."
"I didn’t bring any weapons with me." Heaven shrugged nonchalantly. "So, I doubt I’d make it painless and quick, just as you wish."
Primo squinted his eyes suspiciously. "You don’t have any weapons?"
"I don’t."
"Miss Liu, are you dumb?"
"Why? Because I’m unarmed?" she arched a brow. "When Silas drugged me, I was also unarmed, No One. Do you seriously think now that you know I’m unarmed, you can beat me?"
"I wouldn’t know if I didn’t try."
"Then do it." She nodded encouragingly. "I mean, we still have over a minute to have fun together. After an entire year of you lurking around us, you’ve somehow grown in me."
"Hah!" Primo let out a loud and short laugh as he shook his head. "Nah, I surrender. I’m no fool, Miss Liu. I’m not as dumb as Silas to think a weapon or your gender has anything to do with skills. Also, I hate close combat."
"Gee." He leaned back, still grinning, while shaking his head mildly. He looked at the broken windshield, letting out a deep exhale. "What a life. One second, you’re at the top of the world. But in the next second, you’re just counting your breaths until you stop altogether. What a silly life."
