"Didn’t you leave earlier? You were standing in the line earlier. Did they take you back?"

"How did you know I was standing in the line?"

"Everyone left except those on the list," he lied. "So, I assumed you already left."

"Ah." She rocked her head mildly, only for the back of her head to hit the wood under the bed. "Yes, I was already out, but I came back."

"Are you crazy?" Dane ground his teeth at her answer. "Why did you come back?"

"I want to help."

"And now you’re here, hiding under the bed with me. What makes you think you can do anything to help?"

Ivy bit her lips as she frowned, a little insulted at his last remarks. He didn’t even know the entire story, but he already jumped to a conclusion.

"I know you’re not interested in me, even though I’ve been pursuing you for years. But it still feels unpleasant that you say hurtful things before finding out the reason." She let out a deep exhale but didn’t entertain the unpleasant feeling creeping into her heart. Perhaps it was because there were more problems at hand other than this quick judgment from him.

"I thought you’d know that there’s always a reason behind my actions. No matter how stupid it was. But at the end of the day, I treasure my life, and I never risked my life playing the hero." "I didn’t do it just for him," she answered quietly. "I did it for everyone. My friends are still here and you’re also here. I won’t forgive myself if I can’t say everything I want to tell you."
