Chapter 630: A momentary truce
Chapter 630: A momentary truce
"My future wife."
Heaven squinted her eyes suspiciously while studying Primo. She wasn’t the type to take things at face value, but from the way she saw it, he was being sincere.
"A fiance?" she returned, smirking. "That’s surprising. I didn’t know love can change someone like you." — but then again, love changed her. A little.
"Hah." Grandma Zhu laughed. "Love? More like he’s delusional. How can you call someone your future wife when she doesn’t even know you?"
"Madam Zhu, that’s harsh." Primo frowned and sighed, rolling his eyes. "She might not know me yet, but once she does, we’ll get married."
"Sounds a little complicated to me." Uninterested in what sort of delusional future Primo had in mind, Heaven let out a short chuckle. "But whatever."
"So?" Primo’s brows rose at her. "Do we have a deal? Let me go and I’ll disappear from your lives forever. You get Old Madam Zhu in return and no blood will spill! It’s a win for both of us. What do you say?"
"It’s not that easy, No One. I never forgave you for abducting my son."
"Oh, please! That’s all in the past!" Primo rolled his eyes once again, exasperated. "Your family is alive and growing and I lost my arm for that!"
"My son is still in a wheelchair, just like my father-in-law."
"I already said I was sorry! I didn’t mean it. Also, unlike me, who lost an arm, their limbs are still intact. From what I heard, they can walk again if they continue their therapy."
"You spied on them?"
"Jesus Christ!" Primo yelled in annoyance. "This is why I never want to deal with women. You can’t open your mouth without them nitpicking on everything."
"No. The reason you can’t deal with women is because you can’t get one."
"This is pure slander, Miss Liu. I’m offended."
"Primo Rossi, you do know you deserve to die, right?"
"No — I mean, yes. I deserve to die because my existence in this world doesn’t make it a better place. But then again, I don’t want to die. It’s a normal human reaction. That is why I’m negotiating. Gee!" Primo clicked his tongue in irritation. "Seriously, Miss Liu. I’m sorry, so let’s drop it. We’ll stay away from each other’s business, alright? After all, I won’t get anything from you guys anymore. And even if I can, I don’t want anything you can offer! Let the man live, please! For the sake of everyone’s peace."
Her expression didn’t change as he went on and on. To be fair, she was slightly being swayed. Letting him go sounded so tempting. Primo was a man who never lied. It was not like Axel’s, though. Axel couldn’t lie because his heart was pure. Primo, on the other hand, could lie very well, but he would rather not.
As arrogant as he was, Primo would never find the need to lie about things. Call it some sort of pride of the man who thinks he could be as honest as he can and he would get away from it.
"Miss Liu, don’t make it more complicated than it already was between us," Primo spoke once again, sighing heavily. This time, he slowly raised his pistol from Grandma Zhu and his other hand, gesturing surrender. "Let’s not fight anymore, alright? You can take the Old Madam Zhu to a safe place, and I get to use that chopper over there. I will put my hand on my chest and swear I will never show up in front of you ever again. Believe me or not, I’m a man of my word."
Heaven still had her pistol aimed at Primo, but the man was already raising his hands on either side of him. He wasn’t using Grandma Zhu as a hostage anymore. Primo just stared Heaven dead in the eyes, taking the risk of facing her without any leverage but his words.
"I was expecting a deadly match." She shook her head mildly as she dropped her weapon. "Toss that gun away and you can go."
"No! You toss it away!" Primo scrunched his nose up. "Miss Liu, I’m a man of my word, but I am no fool. Who knows if you’re lying?"
"Then how about we do it together? At the same time?"
Primo pondered about it for a moment before saying, "Fine."
"On the count of three, two, one — damn it! Why aren’t you tossing it away?!" he exclaimed while Heaven arched a brow.
"It doesn’t look like you’re going to."
"Fuck!" Primo screamed in frustration. "Fuck it. There!"
He tossed the pistol to the side without a second hesitation. "Now you do it."
"Nope." Heaven raised her pistol at him once again, pulling the trigger without batting an eye.
BANG!
"Shit!" Primo ducked on instinct, hands on his ears. But before the echo faded, he heard her shallow laughter.
"I’m just messing with you, No One." Heaven dropped the pistol, watching him peek at her once again. "Let’s call it a truce for five minutes. If you are still here after that, then you’re so dead."
"I know." Primo nodded in agreement, glancing at the pistol as she tossed it away. "Thanks!"
"Now go."
"Yes, I know."
"If I were you, I wouldn’t take my precious time so much. Five minutes is quite short."
"Don’t mention it and don’t distract me. I got it!" Primo waved dismissively, turning on his heel to leave. He didn’t even look back or worry about what she was going to do once he turned his back on her. He focused on getting into the chopper to escape this hell.
Meanwhile, as Primo was at a safe distance, Heaven immediately rushed to Grandma Zhu.
"Grandma!" she called, holding Grandma Zhu’s arm and scanning her from head to toe. "Are you okay? Are you hurt anywhere? Did he hurt you on the way?"
Grandma Zhu slowly gazed up at her, clinging to Heaven’s arms with trembling hands. She offered her a warm and apologetic smile.
"Little Heaven, you shouldn’t let him go. I’m sorry if I held you back," she apologized with guilt. "Grandma is alright, little Heaven. Don’t worry about me and just do what needs to be done."
"It’s okay, Grandma." Heaven smiled warmly at her. "Don’t worry about that."
She slowly shifted her gaze to Primo as the man approached the helicopter. "He won’t leave this place in five minutes." Her lips stretched from ear to ear until she was grinning. "How about you get in? It’s much safer there. Hmm?"
Grandma Zhu furrowed her brows. But in the end, she held onto Heaven as she helped her down from the rooftop onto the stairs, leaving Grandma Zhu behind for safety reasons.
