Chapter 629: Future bride
"It’s nice to see you too, Miss Liu."
Oh, what an amusing turn of events!
The corner of Heaven’s mouth hooked up into a smirk, eyes glinting at the sight before her. She had her pistol raised at Primo and the man had his weapon pressed on the back of the Old Madam Zhu’s head.
What was stopping them from pulling the trigger?
"I thought your underling threw you under the bus," she mused. "But I guess he still has some sort of loyalty until the end."
"Oh, no, Miss Liu!" Primo mused back. "He did try to sell me out, but I’m smart. You got to admit that."
"Pray tell. I’m intrigued."
Primo grinned. "Elmo never rushed me, Miss Liu. He knows I love taking my precious time."
"Oh?"
"That’s why I know there’s something wrong," He summarized, keeping it short and precise. "That is why even when I already let Old Madam Zhu go, I have to take her back with me. For safety purposes. I don’t want to end just like that damn traitor."
A glint flickered across his eyes as a smug smirk replaced his grin. "Do I get an applause?"
"That’s amusing. Though not worthy of applause," Heaven remarked while raising her brows. "It’s cowardly for you to take a hostage. An elderly at that. Where’s your manners, No One? I was expecting more from you."
"I am a felon." Primo shrugged nonchalantly. "My personal feelings don’t have anything to do with my means of survival."
"Makes sense." She rocked her head in understanding, glancing at Grandma Zhu before setting her eyes on Primo. Meanwhile, Grandma Zhu let out a deep exhale as she closed her eyes for a moment.
"I’m sorry, my little Heaven," Grandma Zhu expressed with a shaky voice, casting Heaven an apologetic look. "However, don’t hesitate. I’m old and my days are numbered. Don’t let him use me."
"Grandma..."
"Old Madam Zhu, that’s not fair!" Primo frowned deeply. "You can’t just do that! You might think you’re being heroic here, but you’re not! What you’re asking is for your granddaughter-in-law to become a murderer."
Heaven arched a brow as she looked at Primo blankly. Grandma Zhu, on the other hand, looked back at Primo in dismay.
"What?" Primo furrowed his brows, darting his eyes between the two women. After a second, he realized the reason they were looking at him strangely.
Heaven’s face had some smudged blood and her neck showed specks of blood, which he was sure wasn’t hers. Her dress, although red, still showed more blood on it. Primo blinked and scanned the rooftop for a moment.
"Ah." He rocked his head, seeing countless dead bodies loitering on the rooftop. All of them were his men. "Silly me. Of course. I don’t make sense, since she seemed to have wiped out everyone here."
A loud yet short laugh escaped his mouth, setting his pair of malicious eyes on her. "Oh, Heaven Liu. Just how did you do it?"
"Silas sent me to you. There’s that."
"Wow." His eyes twinkled with intrigue and admiration. "Miss Liu, you never ceased to amaze me. I mean, I know you’re already dangerous and as cunning as a fox. But I’ve always wondered how come you’re this talented?"
"This is not talent."
"Right! Which makes it more intriguing!" Primo exclaimed. "For sure, this isn’t pure talent, but a display of skills and experience. You are not experienced."
This time, Heaven didn’t answer and just looked at him.
"Miss Liu, even before meeting you with that friend of yours — sorry, I forgot her name — I already know you. I’ve done my research. So, I was surprised when I met you," he continued in a knowing tone. "I’ve kept a close monitor and that unforgettable night a year ago made me realize there were more things I didn’t know about you that even the best people in digging up a person’s dirt couldn’t find."
"You’re just a total mystery. Like a riddle no one could easily crack," he added, but his tone lowered, looking at her with mixed emotions. "Just how? Surely, luck is not in the options."
"Well, you can say I’m simply blessed?" she shrugged nonchalantly. "Primo Rossi, or No One, or Alex, or whatever the hell you call yourself, is that seriously important right now??"
"Of course! It’s important, Miss Liu."
"More important than your life?"
Primo opened his mouth but then shut it again. "No. My life is so precious that it’s more important. That is why I got this old hag here." His lips pressed, but the corners of them curled up along with his brows.
"Miss Liu, how about this? I give you the Old Madam Zhu and you let me go? How does that sound, eh?" Primo offered her a kind smile. "Me and Old Madam Zhu already agreed that I will disappear from everyone’s lives."
"Do you see me as a fool?"
"Oh, please, no. Don’t misunderstand, Miss Liu. I’m sorry if what I said came across as rude, but that’s not my intention at all!" Primo let out a deep exhale. "I’ve already mentioned this to the Old Madam many times, and I will repeat it again. To be honest, I didn’t plan on sticking my nose into your business anymore. But that dumb Silas is so persistent! The only reason I’m here is to watch a good show."
He took a deliberate pause, looking at her sincerely and solemnly. "Believe me or not, I’m being sincere. You’re smart, Miss Liu. And I believe you already realized that I didn’t take part in the planning. I wouldn’t be in this stupid situation if I did."
Silence descended on their shoulders, holding each other’s gaze without any intention of looking away. Their hands that were holding weapons remained in their position, knowing they couldn’t afford to lower their guards. Primo didn’t even bother asking her to drop her weapon using Grandma Zhu. Heaven didn’t seem the type to stop just because he got a hostage.
"I did guess you didn’t participate in the planning. It wouldn’t be this stupid if you do," she remarked after a prolonged silence, making him sigh in relief.
"Thank God!"
"However, I’m curious," she continued. "What made you change your mind, Primo Rossi? Surely, there’s a story behind this change of heart."
Primo smiled as he answered without a second hesitation. "My future wife."
