Chapter 267: [Bonus Chapter] What if

Heaven stayed with Sebastian until she was a little calmer. Of course, the little master had questions that she answered as honestly as she could. Although his questions were mostly about her feelings and if she was feeling better.

Heaven distracted herself with her son, helping him with his homework, and even telling him stories about her ’spy’ life. Sebastian had grown eager to know about his mother’s previous job, after all. So, somehow, she went along with it just so he would feel reassured that if someone bullied him again, he got a superhero as a mother.

Superhero... more like a supervillain.

Dominic also didn’t come home on time. Although he already messaged her that he would be a little late. Heaven and Sebastian were together all night until her son fell asleep past his bedtime.

Left all alone without a husband to distract her, Heaven went to clear her mind in the sauna. Her body was wrapped in a towel, sitting listlessly with her eyes devoid of life.

[It was a car accident. It was pouring hard, and the road was slippery. She was in labor and she was all alone. She had to drive herself while in labor, in the middle of the night, and under the pouring rain. She eventually reached her destination, but unfortunately, not the way I hoped for.]

[Before my previous employer’s death, I thought I had already accepted her fate. However, when I held her stiff and cold hands, I was wrong.]

[I... couldn’t accept it. I fell into a despicable loop of drinking and wasting away, hoping to die and follow her.]

[I thought I could do better, considering I witnessed more deaths that took away my freedom to sleep. But I was wrong. Losing another loved one didn’t feel easier.]

[People always have regrets, and that will be mine. Forever.]

Ever since stepping foot in the sauna, her mind was just filled with Bear’s remarks. She couldn’t think of anything else, no matter how much she distracted herself. Thus, she accepted these words would linger in her mind until she faced them.

"Fool," she whispered, letting out a short, mocking laugh. "You are so foolish, Hera."

The sadness and ridicule in her eyes glowed and somehow, she couldn’t help but laugh at herself.

What made her think her death would be easy for everyone?

She could understand if it was her enemies, but Bear and the rest... she took a piece of their hearts with her death. Especially Bear, who had been with her since the day she was born. Bear was like her second father; he was someone who would do anything for her.

What made her think a parent could easily cope with their child’s death?

She thought she knew it all, only to realize how clueless she was.

Now that she had a child of her own, Heaven had a deeper understanding of Bear’s pain. After all, she couldn’t even swallow the idea of losing Sebastian. It hadn’t even happened, but just the fear the idea brought was enough to keep her awake all night.

It was the same for Bear.

"How selfish," she murmured along with her bitter laughs. "I should’ve known I was the last straw."

Heaven laughed quietly, resting her forehead on the bottom of her palm. She laughed and laughed until she was biting her bottom lip tightly, unable to stop the tears that were falling onto her lap.

Because of her, Bear lost the love of his life. Of course, Bear had his fault. However, she couldn’t help but feel the weight because no matter how she twists the truth, she had her fair share of accountability.

She thought that she fixed everything before her death. She granted them new lives so they could have a chance to start anew without the darkness in the underground following them like shadows.

But it seemed it was only her selfish will; she didn’t do it for them but for herself.

Something she could’ve done if she had more time left as Hera Cruel.

"God... I’m so fucking pathetic." Heaven combed her hair back, sniffing hard. She wiped her tears with the back of her fist, feeling a little better after letting some tears out.

After an entire minute, the sliding door slid open. Her brows rose, eyes falling on the towering beauty entering the sauna. Her eyes softened as soon as she recognized Dominic. He had nothing on aside from the small towel clinging around his waist.

"I was looking for you," was his greeting, marching to the space beside her and sitting on it. He rested his back against the wall, turning his head to her. "For a second, I thought my wife left me because I came home late. My heart is still racing."

A chuckle immediately escaped her lips. "How did you know I was hiding here?"

"Miriam."

"Oh."

Dominic kept his gaze on her until her brows rose in curiosity.

"What?" she asked, knowing the thin fog and the sauna had concealed her flushed cheek and slightly red eyes from crying. "Why are you looking at me like that?"

"Nothing." He blinked ever so tenderly, reaching out for her hand on her lap. His fingers slipped between the gaps of her fingers, moving her hand to his lips. Dominic planted a soft kiss on her knuckles, only to notice the obvious hand prints around her wrist.

"What happened here?" he asked, eyes back to her.

"Huh?’ Her eyes fell on her wrist, smiling subtly. "That’s Bear."

Heaven smacked her lips, knowing she would have to lie again to him. "He pulled me out of the crowd, but he exerted more force so I don’t get washed away by the crowd."

"Oh, about the false alarm?"

"Yeah."

"I see." Dominic rocked his head in understanding, planting another soft peck on her wrist. "Did it hurt?"

"No." He looked up after receiving her answer, only to see her smiling. "How was your day, babe?"

"It’s... okay. Like usual. Boring." Dominic shrugged, looking at her lazily. "Though I kept thinking about you. How about you? How was your day?"

Heaven didn’t answer immediately, pressing her lips into a thin line. "Not good."

"I figured." His lips curled up subtly. "Do you want to talk about it?"

A momentary silence descended upon the sauna as they stared at each other. His eyes swirled with faint curiosity, although it was obvious he didn’t have plans on forcing her to tell him everything if she didn’t want to.

"Dom." Heaven breathed out as she squeezed his hand while he blinked curiously. "What if I tell you I am not Heaven Liu, but someone else?"
