Chapter 268: [Bonus Chapter] Changes nothing
"Dom. What if I tell you I am not Heaven Liu, but someone else?"
Dominic blinked ever so tenderly, assessing the look on her face she was making. Heaven appeared undoubtedly serious, making it hard for him to believe she was joking.
"Are you?" he returned the question in a calm baritone.
A shallow breath escaped Heaven. "Can’t you just answer?" she asked helplessly. "I just... want to know."
"You want to hear my thoughts that my wife is actually someone else?"
"Yes." Heaven nodded, moving closer to him enthusiastically. "I mean, my face and body are the same. But the soul is someone else."
"Ah."
"So?" Her brows rose, eyes twinkling with anticipation. "What if I am actually a different soul inside your wife’s body?"
"That doesn’t make any sense."
Heaven closed her eyes in distress. She knew that, of course. Even she would find it ridiculous if someone told her they weren’t actually the person she knew, but a different soul!
"Heaven Liu was my wife and someone who almost became my ex-wife. She hates me to the bones, and I... gave up on her, thinking it was the best for her. However, the more I think about it, I realized I wasn’t thinking about what’s best for her, but what’s convenient for me." Heaven slowly lifted her head at Dominic’s answer. "Respecting her needs and giving her wants were something I shouldn’t have done, but rather, I should’ve forced her to get help even if she didn’t want to just because she wanted to save face."
"If you are not Heaven Liu, then I feel sorry for her," he continued while holding her gaze. "Because that only means I cannot make it up for ruining her life and that she would never get to hear my apology."
His eyes partially closed, raising her hand gently. "I feel sorry for her that I hold the same hand, kiss the same lips, embrace the same body, and love the same heart yet, all those feelings weren’t for her."
"If you were actually someone else, then I’d have to live for the rest of my life carrying this guilt of loving someone else." Dominic planted another kiss on her knuckles while maintaining eye contact with her. "That is why it doesn’t make sense because Heaven Liu might be the woman I married, but in my heart, you are my wife. What a complicated scenario, but I guess I have to get used to the title of a man who is having an affair with his wife. No matter how shameless and cruel I sound and appear."
The corner of his mouth curled up as his eyes swirled with nothing but passion and affection.
"I also feel sorry for Basti for having such a father, and hope he doesn’t take after me," he added with a tinge of bitterness.
It was just a "what if" scenario and yet, he couldn’t help but take it seriously. After all, his wife suddenly changed and even until now, he didn’t get any proper answer. Dominic simply accepted the situation as if it was a normal thing. After all, what was important to him was that this family was happy and content, and safe.
That was all that mattered to him.
"Goodness." Heaven let out a helpless sigh, cupping his face and brushing his cheek with her thumb. "If I murder someone, I bet you’d also help me hide the body."
"I think I already answered that before."
"Dominic, will you accept me if that what-if question was the truth?"
"Was that the truth?" he tilted his head a little to the side. "New management?"
Heaven blinked, wondering where she heard those remarks before. After a moment, a laugh escaped her mouth upon remembering her own words months ago.
[Back then, it was the devil taking charge of this body, mind, and soul. This body is already under new management.]
Those were her words back then. Who would have thought he would remember?
"Well." Heaven chuckled, shrugging. "You can say that, but you do understand how hurtful those words you said are if I was actually Heaven, right?"
Dominic pressed his lips into a thin line, holding the hand that was cupping his cheek. "How about we make out??"
"Hey." Heaven drew her head back, covering his lips to stop him from kissing her. "Are you trying to get away from that?"
"I’m not."
"I doubt."
"Wasn’t making out the perfect sequence after answering such a hard riddle?" Dominic sported a sinfully effective innocent look. "I think I passed since my answer is quite satisfactory, so I’m trying to get the reward."
"Make sense. Your answer did please me, in a way." Heaven narrowed her eyes and then clicked her tongue. "Dominic Zhu, I feel like I should argue with you instead."
"I don’t want to argue."
"But I feel like you only said that to make me happy." There was silence after her allegations, making her narrow her eyes suspiciously. "I am correct, am I?"
"No."
"Lying is bad."
"I’m not lying." He kept a straight face, trying to make her believe him.
"Hmm..." Heaven kept her squinting eyes on him, assessing his face strictly.
"Are we... going to make out or not?" Dominic cocked his head to the side. "I read something interesting today, so I want to test it out."
"Read something about what?"
The corner of his mouth stretched into a mischievous smirk, making her brow arch.
"Dominic, what book have you been reading?" Heaven gasped, clutching his shoulders.
"A lot."
"Like?"
"The Art of Kamasutra and Happy Wife Happy Life."
"..." Heaven was rendered speechless for a moment, in utter disbelief as she looked at her dashing husband. Just looking at his divine beauty, no one would expect he would read something like those books because he didn’t look like someone who would enjoy such!
But then again...
Heaven’s thoughts trailed off when Dominic suddenly leaned forward, planting a kiss on the apex of her nose.
"I don’t know why you asked such a strange thing, but if I am going to be honest..." Dominic slowly drew his head back, hands on her jaw. "Those details don’t really matter because what matters is you, us, our family. It changes nothing."
Her eyes softened because there was something in his words that touched a part of her heart no one else did.
’He’s probably right,’ she thought. ’All this time, I just kept everything to myself and concluded from my perspective, without considering I never saw the world from their eyes.’
"Fine," she huffed quietly. "I surrender. Let’s make love."
