Chapter 1123: I’m begging you
Meanwhile...
As soon as Dominic and Axel reached the former’s office, Ivy was waiting for him in the lobby. She rose from her seat, only to notice that Dominic didn’t even look in her direction.
"Dom," she called, rushing to follow him. "We have to talk."
"Not interested."
Ivy clicked her tongue, almost jogging as his pace was big and hurried. "Hear me out, okay?"
"No."
"Dominic Zhu." Ivy stopped, watching Dominic and Axel continue their way. "Are you really going to do this? You know I have other means to force you to talk."
Slowly, Dominic slowed down until he stopped. He drew a deep breath, huffing it out before turning around to face her.
"Miss Wei, I’m sure you already know the reason..." he trailed off as he felt a vibration in his chest. "Give me a moment."
As Dominic fished out his phone, he furrowed his brows. Heaven’s name was on the screen, which he didn’t expect. Heaven wouldn’t call him if it wasn’t important. Was this about Leo? Dominic sent the man there, after all.
While Dominic was pondering about Heaven’s intention, Axel discreetly approached Ivy.
"Ivy, what the hell is going on?" he asked curiously. "And what is this rumor my brother is talking about? Are you getting married? If you are, who’s the father of the child?"
Ivy looked at Axel with a deadpan expression. "Axel, I’m grateful for everything you helped so far, but I’m sorry to disappoint. I’m not pregnant."
"Then you are getting married?"
"Do you see a ring?" she scoffed. "And how can I get married if my man is out there, probably killing people?"
"Shhh!!" Axel panicked, looking around nervously. "What the hell? Do you know where you are right now?"
"It’s Dominic’s office."
"And my brother is a minister. It’s not like any regular office."
Ivy squinted her eyes at Axel suspiciously. "He is now a minister, so what? Did he become a different Dominic?"
"No, but —" before Axel could even explain his side, he was rendered speechless at what he heard from Dominic’s direction.
"Good for you," said Dominic. "But I hope this is the first and last time you’re going to announce who you’re going to sleep with. I’m not interested, and it’s not an emergency."
Axel gasped while Ivy furrowed her brows.
"Who the hell is that?" asked Axel in disbelief.
"No one." Dominic immediately slipped his phone back into his suit pocket right after saying his piece. While doing so, his eyes fell on Axel and Ivy.
’I’m already trying to manage these two,’he thought. ’The last thing I want is to concern myself with Heaven’s sex life. I wish her luck, though.’
Another deep breath escaped him, thinking about this calm before the storm. Usually, when people are aware of the calm before the storm, they prepare themselves to protect themselves. But these two, or perhaps the people he knew, were looking forward to the storm.
"Come with me," Dominic sighed, knowing Ivy wouldn’t drop it until he gave her a time of his day.
With that being said, Dominic turned his back on her again and resumed his steps. Ivy heaved a sigh of relief, but before she could follow him, she glanced at Axel.
"I’m not getting married," she stressed. "And I’m not pregnant. Don’t you dare start a gossip."
She glared at him, making Axel zipped his mouth. Satisfied, she followed Dominic and left Axel behind.
"Then what is the rumor?" Axel muttered, only to hear his phone ping. Following his brother and Ivy in the former’s office slowly, he checked the message sent to him. As soon as he read the headline, Axel stopped and furrowed his brows.
"No way," he whispered, lifting his eyes to where Dominic and Ivy went. "Seriously?"
*******
"I already sent you my proposal, Dom," was the first thing Ivy said as soon as she stepped into Dominic’s office. "And I’m pretty sure you heard the news."
Dominic stopped by the stand, taking off his blazer and hanging it in there. "You sent it, I read it, and I reject it."
"Dom." Ivy marched toward the desk, head turned to where he was. "Why not?"
"You know why, Ivy." Dominic looked back at him, sauntering to his desk and sitting down across from her. "And I think your decision is stupid."
"Stupid?"
"Yes." He nodded. "Don’t do it."
Ivy snickered. "And your divorce isn’t stupid?"
"My divorce has nothing to do with this."
"It has everything to do with this, Dom," Ivy stressed. "Your wife almost died, and yet you divorced her the moment she recovered."
Ivy planted her hands on the desk and bent over. "I am not here to tell you you’re making a mistake because I understand. No matter how you loved Heaven, you are not the same anymore."
"It’s the same for me, Dom. I went too deep and even if I try or force myself, I can’t," she continued. "I’ve touched something I shouldn’t, and there’s no going back."
"Ivy."
"I killed a person," she said. "At least I tried to kill a person."
"You were defending yourself."
Ivy pursed her lips as her eyes gleamed with countless deep emotions.
"And that should make things different?" she whispered, this time rendering him speechless. "I was defending myself, but Dom, that doesn’t change the fact I was determined to take a person’s life."
"When I was abducted, I know for a fact that I have to kill more than just one person," she continued, taking a deep breath as she recalled everything that had happened to her. "Katherine... and the memory of how you shot her in cold blood... I kept thinking about it. If you didn’t do it, I would’ve been the person standing over her and putting that hole in her head."
After all, Ivy tried to kill Dane when she got the chance. It was just that the gun was empty, but she remembered pulling the trigger.
"I can’t delude myself that I’m fine, Dom." Ivy shook her head mildly, eyes fixed on him. "Therapy and meds aren’t helping anymore. I need your help, I need you, Dom. Otherwise, I’ll just lose my mind slowly and painfully."
She pressed her lips as a thin layer of tears coated her eyes. "Help me. I’m begging you, please."
