Chapter 1122: Realizations
"I don’t think I’m the one who needs help. I’ll set you up for an appointment with my psychiatrist."
Asking Leo to sleep with her was not courageous, it was shameless. Heaven knew that the moment the thought came across her mind. However, if she was going to own her body, she wanted to fully control it. Sleeping with him was a wild idea.
This body had been ’abused’ by Hera and Dominic. And while living in Hera’s body, Heaven had to stomach lying beside Dragon.
’It’s not a justification,’ she told herself. ’It’s something I really want to do, even if it means I look desperate.’
Heaven cleared her throat and rocked her head.
"Wait for me here," she said, pushing herself from her seat. She sauntered into the bedroom, and when she came back, she was holding her phone. Sitting down on the chair next to Leo, Heaven smacked her lips.
"Leo, let me ask you one thing." She cleared her throat, this time going into the offense mode. "You don’t want to sleep with me. Why? Because I’m undesirable? And I’m a mom of two?"
Leo pinched the bridge of his nose. Why was he getting interrogated just because he didn’t want to have sex?
"Heaven, what the —" he halted, biting his tongue when her eyes blazed with anticipation. It was as though she was seriously waiting for his answer.
Leo adjusted his seat until he was facing her squarely, leaning back.
"No," he answered, assuming once he answered everything, she would drop it. "Being a mom doesn’t make you undesirable. There were single moms out there — even married women are being fantasized by men." — At least, the celebrities who already got married and had children are still being fantasized.
"Am I ugly?"
"No!"
"Do you think my body is bad?" Heaven clasped her chest. "That underneath these clothes is nothing but horror?"
Leo scrunched up his nose and almost hit himself for sizing her up. "No!" he pinched the bridge of his nose, wondering why did he have to look at her body before answering.
"If it’s not my face or my body, does virginity matter?" she gasped. "Are you a virgin? Don’t tell me you didn’t let anyone touch you just because we —"
This time, Leo lunged forward and placed his hand over her mouth. His face was beet red, his eyes wide.
"Please," he pleaded through his gritted teeth. "That’s not it, Heaven. Don’t go there."
Heaven pursed her lips underneath his palm. She raised her brows in satisfaction, waiting for him to remove his hand.
"Goodness." Leo massaged his temples in distress. "That’s not the reason, okay? It’s not your face, it’s not your body. It’s just that..."
He trailed off as he looked up at her again. "... sleeping with you is pathetic."
"What?"
"No, no, no." He shook his head. "It’s not like that. I didn’t mean it like that. What I meant is that you’re still a married woman. And I know if you sleep with me, that’s because you want distraction, or maybe just another way of self-destruction."
"I see." Heaven let out a shallow breath while Leo sighed in relief. But his relief was short-lived when she opened her mouth again. "So, it’s Dominic, huh? You’re afraid that he might know about it. Fine."
Heaven grabbed her phone and called the only saved number in her contacts. The second it rang, she looked at Leo and put it in speaker mode. The latter just furrowed his brows. For a moment, both of them listened to the rings until Dominic finally picked it up.
"I am asking Leo to sleep with me," Heaven announced before the person on the other end of the line could speak. "But I think he’s worried because you might find out. So, I’m calling you today to tell you I’ll sleep with him no matter what."
Leo’s jaw almost hit the floor, his face aghast, shocked at everything he heard just now. Did she really say that to Dominic? Or was the person on the other end of the line wasn’t Dominic?
"..."
A long silence fell in the line as if Dominic was utterly flabbergasted.
’There’s no way that’s Dominic,’ Leo told himself, almost laughing. ’There’s no way.’
Leo’s beliefs were instantly squashed down the second the person on the call spoke.
"Good for you," said Dominic. "But I hope this is the first and last time you’re going to announce who you’re going to sleep with. I’m not interested, and it’s not an emergency."
"Mhm. Thanks." Heaven smiled and ended the call. She immediately set her eyes back to Leo, fluttering her eyelashes innocently. "He gave us a blessing."
Again, Leo was speechless.
"That’s Dominic?" he blurted out under his breath, and she nodded. "Yeah, I know he is Dominic. There’s no doubt it was him, but why?"
"Told you." She shrugged. "We don’t love each other."
"Still that argument?"
Heaven just smiled. "Are you going to sleep with me? I know I sound really desperate now, but I learned from certain people that if I want something, I should do whatever it takes. In this case, even if I have to look desperate."
Leo opened and closed his mouth like a fish, but still couldn’t wrap his head around this situation. He pinched the bridge of his nose to take a moment before he found the courage to face her.
"The reason I don’t want to sleep with you is..." Leo paused as he leaned forward. "It’s because I like someone else. I don’t have sex with people I don’t have an emotional connection with."
He smiled meekly. "I loved you for a long time, Heaven. It took me a long time to get over you. It cost me my heart just so I could look at you without hurting. And it took me a lifetime of courage to smile for your happiness, even if I’m not in it."
"Please. Don’t play with me." He stretched his arm and squeezed her shoulder. "I’m your friend and I will always be. But I can’t let you hurt me the way you did."
That argument... was something she couldn’t argue with. Asking him to sleep with her was shameless, but that was all there was. Pushing him further would just hurt him, and that wasn’t shameless anymore. That was cruel.
"I see." Heaven smiled, nodding in understanding. "Then, that’s understandable."
Leo pursed his lips. "Thanks for the food and for letting me use the shower. I’ll go home now."
He tapped her on her shoulder mildly before rising from his chair. A sense of guilt crept up his spine as he walked away, but he figured this was for the best. However, after several steps, he stopped and looked back at her.
Seeing that she was still sitting frozen on the chair, another deep sigh escaped him.
"I’m not sleeping with you," he said, walking back to her and taking the chair in front of her. He waited for her to look up at him before he added, "I repeat, I’m not sleeping with you, Heaven. But like I also said, I’m your friend."
A subtle smile appeared on his face. "I’ll keep you company since it seemed to me you need help in this place. It’s a mess. You are also a mess."
Heaven’s eyes softened as a weak smile slowly turned up on her face. "This is what I call a pot calling the kettle black."
"I know, but at least I don’t ask my friends to sleep with me," he quipped, making her laugh. "Come on, now. Let’s eat. I’m still hungry."
"Is it really good?"
"Mhm. Did you say you marinated it overnight and boiled it for hours?"
"Yeah, but I feel like it doesn’t taste the same..."
Somehow, someway, Heaven and Leo found a way to make things less awkward again. Perhaps it was because they quietly agreed not to bring up the topic. Or maybe Heaven just realized something.
There was a reason she fell in love with him, and today, reminded her why she fell in love with him and would always fall in love with him. Because even if it felt unfair, Leo still loved her. It was just that he didn’t know that the Hera he fell in love with was actually Heaven in Hera’s body.
And that was good enough for her.
