Chapter 1120: Do you want to sleep with me?
It was no secret Heaven learned how to cook in her marriage. She brought a few dishes and even cooked for everyone a couple of times during the set of her last film. Hence, Leo didn’t question whether or not she could cook. Matter of fact, he stopped holding on to the things he knew about her because she changed.
The Heaven he knew changed drastically in the five years she was gone.
"Here we go." Heaven placed down the pot on the table and then took off her mittens as she sat down. "I’ve marinated the meat for 12 hours and then boiled it for eight. I hope you’ll like it."
Leo smiled subtly. "Uhm. You’re moving out?"
"Hmm?"
"I’ve noticed there were boxes around, so it’s either you’re moving out or you’re going to throw things out," he explained. "But I don’t think you’re decluttering since some of your trophies are in there."
"Ah..." Heaven cleared her throat and smiled widely. "I’m throwing them away."
"Your trophies?"
"Mhm." She nodded. "They’re just things and they just become a nest for dust. So, I’m throwing them."
"Why not put them in storage?" he wondered with genuine concern. "Or do you hate acting that much now? That you’re going to throw out even your award for being the best actress?"
"I don’t hate acting; I never hated it, nor I will hate it."
"Then, why?"
Heaven shrugged. "I want to start and I want a clean slate. I loved acting, but at the same time, acting... hurt me. It saved me in a way, but I want to be me. Just me, Heaven Liu, not the actress, not someone’s wife, or the poor daughter of a good man."
"I just want to be Heaven Liu," she continued with a peaceful smile. "Whoever she is, I want to know."
The lines on Leo’s forehead deepened as worry brimmed in his eyes.
"You sound like... you’re leaving," he blurted out under his breath. "Are you leaving?"
"I just want to start anew, that’s all."
"What about your husband? And your kids? I mean, Dominic is now a minister and he can’t just —"
"I filed for a divorce," she announced, rendering him speechless mid-sentence. Her smile stretched, chuckling at the horrified reaction plastered on his face. "Dominic and I are having a divorce. We’re keeping it quiet, but everyone around us pretty much knows about it."
"Is that why you’re here?"
Heaven nodded. "Mhm."
"What about your kids?"
"He’s going to have full custody and I get visitation rights," she explained indifferently. "He also gave me some money so I can start anew. If I need something, like a plane ticket or some sort, I could give him a call. He’d buy me a ticket and probably pay for accommodation too. It’s like a package, you know? I can practically go on a vacation and he’d pay for everything. It’s like many people’s dream —"
"Why?" he asked quietly, his eyes swirling with genuine worry. "Why are you okay with that?"
"Huh?"
"Heaven, why are you okay with you separating?" he clarified, eyes fixed on her. "You loved each other; you loved him very much. You guys are practically inseparable. He made you happy and you complete him. How can you say all that nonsense as if it doesn’t bother you?"
Leo paused, leaning forward against the table. "How can you act like it’s okay? That you’re okay? When, obviously, you shouldn’t be."
Heaven pressed her lips into a thin line, smiling subtly. Her lips parted, but her voice didn’t come out of her throat. All she could do was stare at him.
"Because it’s what I want," she whispered after a prolonged silence.
"You want to divorce him? And leave your kids behind?"
"Mhm."
"And you’re throwing all these things away, which obviously holds sentimental value to you because of the same reason?"
"Mhm."
"Why?" he asked in exasperation. "There must be a reason you’re doing this."
"I’m a bad mother and a horrible wife. No matter what explanation I give, they were merely excuses for my actions." Her smile remained. "I don’t want to give my actions excuses anymore, Leo. If I’m going to start anew, I have to relearn everything. If choosing this makes me a bad mother and a terrible ex-wife, then that’s because I am. It’s something I am embarrassed about, but it’s not something I’d hide anymore."
Leo scoffed in disbelief, rendered speechless by her argument. "Dominic is fine with that?"
"He supports me and wishes me luck."
"Wishes you luck? He can do that without agreeing to a divorce."
"We don’t love each other," she announced to clear it up. "Dominic and I... it’s hard to explain, but well, things happen."
Leo shook his head mildly, in utter disbelief at this nonsense situation. They didn’t love each other? That was impossible. They were head over heels for each other, and Leo knew it was true. That love was true. But now she was claiming it wasn’t?
Leo let out another scoff, furrowing his brows as he set his eyes on her again. For some reason, while looking at her, he felt this strange sense of deja vu. Everything about her was the same, but somehow, she looked different.
Was it the aura she was emanating?
It was as though this Heaven right here... felt like Heaven. The Heaven he knew over six years ago. That was strange. After all, the Heaven in the present was a little different. That new version of her was odd, but surely, it was something he had to accept.
Why was she regressing? She just couldn’t factory reset herself, right?
"Anyway, enough with the judgment." Heaven cleared her throat, opening the lid of the pot. "Let’s eat first. I’m really hungry."
Leo sighed with his lips. "Let me help."
"It’s okay," she smiled as she served his plate. "I want to do this."
Leo let her. It wasn’t like he had to argue about this too. Instead, he looked at her and then held his tongue. When she placed the plate in front of him, he gazed at it and waited for her to have hers.
"Thank you for the food," he said as he picked up his cutlery.
"Enjoy."
"Mhm." Leo easily cut through the meat with his fork, eating a big portion of it. But as soon as he did, he almost spat it out when Heaven spoke.
"Leo, do you want to sleep with me?"
He slowly raised his head, revealing the horror plastered on his face. Heaven, on the other hand, just smiled innocently.
